  • Most dog owners don't give much thought to their pet's paw health. Paws are not immune to health problems. If left untreated, an issue with a dog's paw could lead to a more serious health concern. Knowing how to treat an infected paw on a dog is crucial information that every owner should have. topdogtips.com/infected-paw-o...
    If you don't notice an issue until infection sets in, it's not too late. As long as the infection isn't severe, you should be able to treat the problem at home. This guide will go over how to treat an infected paw using supplies that you probably already have in your medicine cabinet.
    "You only need to use peroxide once. It kills all of the bacteria in the wound, even the "good" bacteria that is helping to heal the area. After you've flushed with peroxide the first time, use water when cleaning the wound in the future."

    My dog was limping for about 2 weeks. I took him to the vet.($350). They took x-rays and said his hip was not aligned and he would need to have surgery($2400). Gave him pain medicine and said they would schedule surgery the following month. A few weeks later I noticed his paw was very red as well as a swollen bruise on his hind leg. I watched this video and did everything she said. The next day my dog was already walking better. I also bought some dog antibacterial spray and in 3 days he was back running. So thanks for saving me $2500.00. 😊

    There is a far better recovery collar than the lampshade style called a 'Cervical Collar'. It is a collar that fits the length of the neck and is very effective and does not get caught on objects or make the dog feel humiliated. I used them at my local shelter when I was an animal specialist. Highly recommended.

Oh and this was helpful thanks, I don't need to go to the vet at this stage as I think it'll be something I can help fix, like this vid recommends. This happened to our foxred lab. He started limping first and then I observed that his right paw was swollen. Messaged the vet since we were home quarantined. Told me to put warm compress. There and then, I saw that there was something black, don’t know if that was a wound and then by midnight, I saw blood oozing from the infected paw. Didn’t take a chance. I ask someone to bring him to the vet the next morning. They cleaned his paw and told me that it was interdigital furuncolosis. He’s okay now. He got better after two days. 😊

    So my dogs paw is swollen, but her paw is like red, and she keeps licking it and biting it. I noticed it when I was watching TH-cam videos and she started yelping I look over to see what was wrong and she is biting at her paw and yelping some more. So I got her to stop, fed her, and then she still tried to lick it, what do it do?

  • @TheOneanjel
    @TheOneanjel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I'm gonna try this. I have a Bulldog in the home who isn't mine, but applying coconut oil (which was obviously helping) got me yelled at. This type of short hair dog is prone to interdigital cysts. The owner blames the dog and says it's from digging in the yard although there's no evidence of digging, and has never tried to do a simple search online. My desire to help has been met with accusation and worse. I was putting warm coconut oil on the single cyst, and it helped considerably but as it was clearing up I was told that I was making it worse. Later I gave the paws salt soaks as often as I could (secretly) and I could tell that made him feel better although now he has 3 cysts, all on the front paws (the original one I treated is gone now but I was not at the house for several weeks and he developed more in his other toes). He has been living with this for months, not hours. He doesn't limp but he doesn't like people touching the front paws--he only lets me because I pet him real good and give him treats after but sometimes he does give me a little warning. He also will stay on his bed for long periods, probably to avoid the hard floor and walking in general. I'm gonna get peroxide right away and start with that. I might try the Neosporin since the coconut oil he finds tasty and will lick it off. Unfortunately, I have no way to take him to the vet. It is something the owner refuses to allow. Others have offered to pay the bill. He claims that's not possible because vets don't have the proper muzzle for a flat-faced dog but they are readily available online. I just feel I have to help this poor dog. He must be in so much pain all the time.

      @TheOneanjel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@carla_deeanne I did use peroxide and the dog felt better. I gave him coconut oil and cleaned his paws which he looked forward to. eventually he developed a frightening lump in his throat forcing the owner to take him to the vet where he got antibiotics. That made his cysts go way down as well as clearing the throat infection. Now he jumps around happily. I can only hope the owners eyes have been opened. ❤

    Sometimes their paws hurt so much and are so irritated that they are super resistant. Our dog sees me open the cream tube and runs. I have to sneak up on her. I can get her to stand in the bath for a few mins and let paws soak in warm water with epsom salt. I just give her a paw bath not her whole body.

    Brought my dog to the vet four days ago for a slightly swollen paw. Vet said to put antibiotic Ointment on it keep it clean and dry.
    Tonight I looked at it and it’s twice the size. It is assumed that there was a cut or damage to the paw, The veterinarian could not find it upon examination. I’m now freaking out it’s Sunday night with an emergency call to the vet for the morning. She’s not been eating all day today and very uncomfortable

Forget the dog booties, she won't have it, and barely lets me touch her feet even when not in pain. My question is, her front leg, large pad looks like a yellowish crusty callous...doesn't smell like anything. Will continue to work on this, this week, and if no improvement, off to the vet.

    My dog has a bad sore on her paw between the toes. She's had this before on her front paw. The research says it's interdigital furuncle. I've cleaned it thoroughly - it was bath day too - put 'drawing salve' on it to pull out any poisons, etc. overnight. then, I'll put antibiotic cream on it and do this several times a day for several days. I also give her a crushed vicodin for pain and/or baby benadryl. The research says she should see a vet but that would be hundreds of dollars I just don't have in this pandemic economy. I feel horribly guilty.

I went to the vet and he told be to get standardized antiseptic solution and fucidin cream (antibiotic cream) they are both cheap. Sanitize the paws with the antiseptic solution first then wait 2 minutes and put the antibiotic cream and again wait for about 10 minutes until the paws are relatively dry. Stop your dog licking their paws because it’ll worsen the infection. Don’t let the dog paws get wet and don’t give the dog a bath. Do this twice a day for a week or 10 days.

      Tiffany, if this happens in future, remove fur from the infected area, wash with water and salt bath it every other day. If the wound smells bad at any point, you must take her to a vet right away. Bad smells are a sign of serious infection. Peroxide isn't the worst thing in the world for dogs, but it kills off fibroblasts (a dogs natural healing tool), so should never really be used on open wounds. Remember to dry off the wound gently after each salt bath and try to stop her licking it.

      @Briana Cumbicos I didn’t put gauze because it might absorb the antibiotic cream. After putting the cream on, hold your dog in ur arms or lap until the paw has absorbed the cream then u can just let them walk around the house, not outside. Don’t let your dog outside if he has an infection. And don’t let them lick their paw

    My blue healer keeps getting what the Vet calls yeast.. He licks and chews his paws all day until it's swollen and saturated & then constantly scratching everywhere else & Spreading everywhere.... It's annoying bringing him to the vet and have them. Do the Labs to see what it is & they keep referring different antibiotics or steroids.... The meds work but as soon as he gets better and weaned off - it comes back in full force !!!!! He did not have this problem when I first found him in the middle of the Arizona desert until I brought him back to Minnesota 2 years later.... The vets are becoming morons. They just want your money like hospitals and do enough to keep you coming back.... . . . . .

    How do I clean an infected wound on my dog’s belly? It is small and has a foul smell.

    • @jesusoftheapes
      @jesusoftheapes 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Peroxide . First get it into a syringe and flush the wound channel . Let the peroxide foam and flush for a few minute and repeat until the foam is free of bloody puss and fairly clear . Then pack the wound with preto carbolic salve and keep a good eye on it a few times per day . Clean out the wound every night and reapply the Petro carbolic until you see healing take over within a few days . depending on the infection you may have to use a tool or your finger to debride the wound cavity but the peroxide will do most of the work for you . Keep it clean and the magic of petro carbolic salves (watkins) will heal your dogs wounds faster than anything you can imagine .
