Agreed, also the cards we ask for reprints for TimeWizard formats and they don't, they should reprint older cards too or make a timewizard booster reprint set.
Don`t they do that with many of the Speed Duel sets? That i wouldn`t mind, playing-wise it`s the same as the original card, but the "Speed Duel"-branding makes it easy to distinguish from the classic ones with lesser impact on collectable cards prices.
I mean the 25th anniversary reprints of LoB etc and now the LODT ones are easily distinguishable from original prints, i don`t mind that too much even though i don`t like the looks of these prints. I`m a little worried about RP01 though, because of all the "We`re gonna make it as close to the original prints as possible"-stuff. I don`t even have much RP01 stuff, but there are certainly some ppl with highrare RP01 collections who will not enjoy that.
then why has it taken them 15 years to do this? Konami historically never reprinted cards such as Ash Blossom in secret again when people were crying out for better rarities.
I understand your point, but I honestly could give two shits if they reprint the same high rarity for cards. Like I have a collectors rare guardian chimera and they just reprinted it in RC2 and I was just like meh. Sure they look the same but they both have different set numbers. And personally I think that will eventually make the difference for collectors. They’ve reprinted blue-eyes in ultra rare so many times with the same art, and look at the og ultras they are worth way more. Even the reprint ultras are worth a lot more then the current reprint ultras because of the different set number. I mean dark arm dragon has 2 secret are prints and the og secret is still super expensive compared to the new one. And even if they just decided to reprint the og set I still don’t really care. They reprinted LOB blue-eyes they both technically have the same set number but og Lob first and unlimited are still worth more then the new reprint.
Thank you for your perspective on that! On some occasions (old OG things, Ultis) i see your point and agree to that. Cardmarket differentiates between 25th-Anniversary reprints for LOB/MRD etc. and older prints (2002-2017), that`s a good thing that i am happy about. For the Chimera example you referenced it`s kind of similiar to my RotA from KICO. If they literally name the rarity "Collectors Rare", they are hard to pull (1 specific ColRare in about 45-60 boxes of MAME if it`s every 3-4 boxes for one to be pulled) and aquiring them takes commitment, it`s bewildering to me that Konami reprints the same Rarity in another set with way higher chances of pulling that specific card (1 in 20 boxes for a specific one and a set with WAY more hype and by that logic produced boxes). For both RotA and Chimera the original Collector`s Rares dropped down after the reprint (42->15 for Chimera, 60->20 for RotA). You are right in the sense that they still are way higher than the new Collectors Rares though, but losing 60-70% of value on cards specifically tailored towards collectors defeats the purpose in my opinion.
i hate how they make an excuse of like "ohhh this one is prismatic rarity collection collector rare so its obviouslz super different from regular one...."
True, making up new rarities and rotating older fan-favorite ones out of prduction is weird in my eyes. Another thing is the abandoning of hobby and retail boxes, that concept was cool and supported dedicated gaming stores.
I can understand for people who bought boxes and collected to keep. BUT there were a lot of 'investors' who just bought up product because of how exclusive these were and the SOLE goal was thinking it was an easy investment to make money. In my opinion, these were ALWAYS overvalued and overhyped. Same with starlights. Cards that weren't even THAT good starting off at £100+. Random collectors rares being £40 for no reason annoyed me and a lot of people. Vendors have too much market power and rarity was a way to reset the way they make product. Some people got stung but like overall the market is a lot healthier
While i consider myself a collector more than a player, i did buy some products in bigger quantities so i could keep some sealed, open some and have some for for trading/selling. Ppl without any connection to the game buying into it for pure financial motives is not cool, but as long as it`s possible and makes them money, they`ll do it. Starlights/Ghostrares are VERY rare, so i think them being higher in price is okay - the bad ones are sometimes cheaper that good Secret Rares from the same set - the demand of the playerbase has it`s influence on that which can be both curse and blessing - depending on which end of a deal you end up (seller or buyer). The only Starlight Rare ever pulled from one of my boxes (but not by me, a friend pulled it) was the Ninja one out of DABL and that one`s pretty cheap now considering it`s 1 in 60 boxes for a specific Starlight Rare. Other highrare cards are - as you say - randomly expensive... i`m considering a Collector`s Rare Hungry Burger but even though it`s not a good card, it`s sitting pretty at 25-30 € while actually good cards (some banned/limited) are lower i. e. Tenki or stuff reprinted in RA01/02.
You can check them on cardmarket or tcgplayer. I know more about cardmarket but tcgplayer might have similiar features. 1st i`d suggest reading the descriptions of card conditions. You can then search the single cards database and use the filter for language, condition, set etc. to get basic information what`s worth money and what isn`t.
The issue is all the poor people think they are entitled to high rarity cards although it isnt necessary for gameplay and konami just listens to them. In turn the collectors and investors are leaving the game or going to Goat/Edison format (cant reprint old card stock). The average player will be happy that the collectors and investors are leaving cause they see them as evil scalpers and assholes not realizing how much of a backbone they are to the market. Reprints hurt everyone, people do not want to accept that. Its better to pony up a $100 for a lightning storm and have it retain its value forever or even better go up than to reprint every card into the ground.
Nah man a market where anyone can come in and play is the best market cus tier zero decks shouldn’t cost 280 dollars it’s to much of a hostile market that’s killing yugioh reprints are not that bad just don’t base your living off flipping the cards and collect or play the game
I don`t mind lowrare/common reprints of formerly expensive cards, but highrare after highrare print is weird. Holos were something special when i started playing/collecting, nowadays EVERYTHING "has to" be shiny and having a cool binder with a long-built collection is being somewhat devalued in many cases (both monetarily and aesthetically).
I´ll not start a debate about "poor" and "rich" ppl, anyone should be enabled to play the game at a certain level, which is enabled by products such as well-built starter oder structure decks - buy 3 for mby 20 bucks and play. There are folks who want to spend more money on shiny cardboard for collecting purposes and some want to do it for playing the newest, best strategies, both is fine. Playing-wise i am a fan of lowrare decks (because not every opponent treats decks with care plus it`s easier to see what cards is which without millions of shiny particles all over them). That`s why i said reprints should be lowrare and for a certan card there should be 1 print max of each higher rarity over the years.
@@wyattdriggers2151 What do you mean by "just for the name"? (Archetypes or something along those lines?) Pre-ordering prices are wild sometimes, but after the release the expensive cards do often get cheaper... and after a while the good ones rise again, like Purulia for example. She started at 42, went down by a third and is now climbing to >40 again. Other stuff like the Exodia Fusion dropped completely upon release and was sitting at 12-ish for preorders. That`s why i don`t pere-order singles, but boxes. What i pull is what i get and that`s sometimes great, sometimes awful. ;-)
Konami see WE THE WEST as "endless cash income". Konami either "reprint" too much or they "short print" certain cards. I'm sure that there are laws in the Asian countries that prevent or stop Konami from doing these schemes but over here in the WEST it's a total different story.
Konami is a business so of course making money is the main motivation. Shortprinting certain chase cards or showering the community with lots of "blingy" sets is a result, i don`t like those things, too. Your part about laws in other countries is something i a) don`t know too much about and b) don`t think hits home with me. I opened korean packs on this channel and (for example) the BEWD out of the 15th anniversary Duelist Road packs seems to be shorted as well.
Tbh they dont reprint often enough in my opinion But they do reprint the same cards too often There are many cards that should've been reprinted along time ago but still haven't been And chase expensive deck staples should be available at a lower rarity for everyone to obtain and use Currently to build a decent tournament or competitive deck it costs upwards of 1000 usd which is terrible for new or returning players
I can partially agree with that, some cards have 50 prints, some others have 1 or 2, that`s wild. For newer sets they have to wait a while with the reprinting or nobody will buy the new set, in that case the Mega Tins are kind of balanced with reprints a year later. Shortprinting in Tins is a problem though and leaving substancial cards out of reprint sets, too.
Agreed, also the cards we ask for reprints for TimeWizard formats and they don't, they should reprint older cards too or make a timewizard booster reprint set.
How about you dont ruin the value of my goat format decks with your bullshit reprints. Thanks.

I understand the thought behind this statement even though i`d have worded it a little differently. ;-)
Konami hates the secondary market thats why they are reprinting old sets
No Konami is reprinting cards because they know people are stupid enough to buy anything that is shiny. Thus it's making them money

The secondary market can kick rocks I don’t think a game should be locked behind a paywall.
That`s a solid opinion brought straight to the point, much appreciated! :-)
