Chris, thanks a bunch, our conversation on the Avalanche was most enlightening. You are quite innovative in your approach to woodworking. Best of luck on your continuing success.
Ok so your shade sail video is what got me subscribed, but this video is what make me really appreciate you and your channel... A huge part of my job for the last decade has included using/modding things to use in ways they weren't originally designed for. I absolutely dig the idea of using "industrial shelving" for shed framing... Granted I'm only 2 minutes into this video but I already like where it's going.
Oh, and to answer "what would you store in this shed?" - I would 100% be storing propane, methane, acetylene, and other "test gases" just outside of the "gas lab" of my workshop.
It turned out looking super nice and fun to watch with all the tips you provided. Always makes me a bit nervous watching you wear your flip flops though. I've injured my toes several times and now always wear shoes with safety toes. 😬Really enjoyed watching you do a "build video" again.......thanks for sharing! The kids are sure growing up fast! I'd guess 4 takes 🧡
I like your shed idea, Chris! It worked out very well for what you intended. It's a fabulous looking project that should serve you well for years to come! 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Chris, thst was a excellent little shed, what's even better is you done it all by yourself, I was surprised your daughter did not want to stsy and supervise, this whole build was a great effort, congratulations on a job very well done, best regards from Australia, Les
If you do a LOT of finishing / painting consider getting a Fuji spray mini mite 5 or similar. I had an Earlex 5500 HVLP for years and recently upgraded to the Fuji. Wow what a difference. I can actually spray paint out of it unlike the Earlex and poly lays down way smoother. We’ve used it for a ton of projects and jobs.
Nice job Chris! I’m not going to beat you up too bad on your carpentry skills. The only thing I noticed is no Titebond III exterior glue on some of those joints. You did love yourself figuring out that way to let yourself out of the shed if you got locked in. I always work by myself, it’s amazing how the mind works to figure out problems.
@ 26:12 you have learned a valuable lesson / gutters cause more problems than they solve / they have ice damns in cold climates and leaves, in the south they over flow into facia / solution wider eaves to direct rain away from house and they give better shade
I locate and grab all the cheap pallet rack I can get. I turned to my friend once and he said " Pallet racking is a weird beast; you can't find it when you need it, and when you don't it is all over the place for free ". His words have haunted me for three years now.......but I'm close...just a few more pieces needed. Best wishes with your project!
@ 22:54 glad to see that someone has cracked the code / those latches have been around for years, and I comment on channels all the time telling what you just did BUT I have always used the nylon string that you buy to lay out you form work ( ledger boards ) and if it is the orange type it should make the escape more noticeable
Forget the great idea, the Florida Safety Shoes. Warms my heart. 😊 Great idea and I’d use as a garden tool shed. The double rack is great idea and can be used for a lot it things.
Great build, considering the basic structure is available for cheap! Those racks are EVERYWHERE for sale. I hope you can give us a follow up (maybe mid-summer) for the status of the cast iron tops, now coated in the CM product. I live just about 4 hours south of you and the summer humididity here is nuts.I have been on the fence about these products, but can't get over the cost. I guess I should factor the time I spend cleaning, sanding and waxing my tops every four months to keep up with the rust.
Fantastic idea and great work. Warehouse near me has some old racks for sale very cheap. Going to re-paint them and give this shed idea a go. Don't have an orange heart emoji so I'm gonna use yellow. 3 takes💛
I hope you film the other shed too. I really like this idea for a smaller shed which let’s be real, everyone could use multiple sheds or purpose oriented like for gardening, wood storage, etc. This makes first time shed builders like myself more approachable and I think it looks pretty sturdy. In my area in sw KS we get tornado like winds, sturdy and able to stay upright is ideal which I’m betting I could anchor to concrete pads or even blocks buried down. I’m desperately needing to either build or buy a shed (I need really two, one big and one smaller) so I can finally address my filthy, unorganized garage turned woodshop. I really miss your organization builds so much so this was fun! That coffee station and moveable fans will be burnt into my memory for ever lol! Anyways great project, it makes sense especially because the metal frame will be sturdy and Home Depot brand sheds now are framed with metal more than they used to be I think to avoid rot so very neat. Thank your store owner, great idea
Yes! I think most woodworkers are really mostly concerned with safety. Like…. The habit of putting your off hand fingers on the front of your skillsaw. I totally hold the guard off when needed, but for sure don’t rest my fingers where the blade is. Won’t comment on the lack of push stick, because you have a SawStop… and considering your other material choices, you can afford the new blade/brake. ;-) All that said, do love the re-purpose of things, one of my favorite things to do with Auction finds.
I 100% agree, I don’t mind if someone’s passionate and gives me the info or correction like the difference between a dado and rabbet, there are vulgar ppl but oh well. Knowledge is king and I appreciate anyone sharing what they know and I’ve learned so much from the Makers and my favorite the Woodworking community!
❤ i think about 6 times. Love the video and the interaction with the kids. Family is everthing. Keep on going, greetz all the way from the Netherlands in Europe.
That was a great video on building a shed from a metal shelf. I was in the process of buying myself a prefab shed. But I like your idea so I’m going to build one like yours thank you for that idea and video. My other question is were do u purchase the stand that was in the video that you were using for a table?
🧡 I want to guess 8 takes, but my daughter is watching with me and her favorite number is 5, so we're saying 5. Love the project Chris. Hope you and the family are well.
Make two with space between for work area and multiple shelves. Can make or buy portable hydraulic fork lift have carport between and roll up door for the service bay. Or store rack in trailer for toll components. Install e track to stabilize material.
@AGlimpseInside good job. I think we've all left something on the roof at some point...lol. Save your future self some aggravation. Use something to guide the water off the house to the shed roof...I know, I know you said you don't care...but speaking from personal experience, the moisture builds up in between if you don't. Wouldn't want all your hard work to rot. Your kids are getting so big! Thanks for the lesson and the giggles. It's been 3 months...how did the cast iron hold up? Since you are in Florida...(lucky guy!), how did you anchor it for high winds? I'm in the process of building myself and the winds getting stronger every year here.
First like and watch... a reward for being up too late! This is brilliant and looks great! I'm thinking of how I might get a couple of these units to get enough depth to store tires and a snowblower... in my Canadian yard. 3🧡 I'm glad I'm not the only one to leave a tool ON THE ROOF! 🤗 I'm loving this member only video preview... Thanks for sharing!!! 👊
What’s up, Mike. No shame in being up too late. Thanks as always. Glad you liked it. And yes, this could be a super cool build. If you could find four or six of these racks and sister them together. Especially if you can get them salvage. Take care, my friend.
@AGlimpseInside Getting a few used ones will be part of my mission this summer. I have until Hallowe'en to build myself another shed. 😀 All is good up here and it looks like you have an epic summer of change coming... I can't wait to see what you have in store. Good luck - I might have to buy another tour pass! 😆 👊 Give the wee ones an extra hug from their biggest Canadian fan! 🤗
Used these in warehouse 12 feet tall used hyster electric unit to drive to top shelf and pick product. Had to sweep floor daily a single bolt under tire was a lot of motion 12 feet tall. Lol
Love your sense of humour brother. Say Hi to the Pixies for me. Jobs on the fly - very cool. Don't know how to do heart emoji thingy but I guess 7! Brilliant ideas and tips as always. Can I store the long haired colonel in the shed? Now I really am in trouble. LOL. Really! Oh, ok garden tools too I guess. Stay safe out there!
#🧡 I'm guessing it took 11 takes, because 11 is just that much more! 🧡 Your pallet rack build has given me osme ideas for my new chicken coop remodel/expansion. It sure would save me some structural framing work, and could move it if I needed to, unlike the post built style I have now. Thank you!
Don’t forget to replace fishing line at least once a year. Us and weather outside. Won’t last long at all. Drill a larger hole and put some rope that you can see how much it deteriorates over time is my opinion.
Nice. I wish I had a truck to be able to buy sheet goods and a nice set of racks like that. I already miss the Woodcraft in Jacksonville. I definitely spent more than I should have during their closeout sale. I guess we'll see more small businesses close as baby boomers decide to retire.
Hello, Well it was a fun video to watch, so thanks for that. That being said - the price comparison to standard 2X4 framing doesn't pan out, Just saying. What was your final cost total + Time?
Do you think you can still get the shelves into these still? This makes me want to get two and have a 4 or 6 foot space between them and have at least one of them have shelves still in.
In regards to caulking, I've noticed using caulking tool that leaves a thick bead, stretches better and doesn't crack unlike when using your finger which leave very little material which carck with any changes.
Awesome video new to the channel I am working on the same pallet rack but mine I'm leaving the front open again AWESOME video looking forward to seeing some of your other videos. Like I told my wife I'm not the only nut who thought a rack could be turned into a shed again Thanks I also don't know the names to some tools & supplies LOL LOL but I do my best thanks for making me feel good about my self Bueno sir from good old (RGV) TX. Going to try to make a spray booth out of the left over parts from my rack any thoughts???
Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate it. Best of luck and what you’re trying to do as well sounds pretty cool. As far as the spray booth. Not really sure. Haven’t even given that some thought. Maybe the racking vertically and zip tie fans to them. Not sure, bro but anyway, thank you so much.
Just a circular saw and drill. And a grinder, and a jig saw, and a pneumatic nailer, and a table saw, and a pallet jack... 🤣 Nice shed. I'd have used paracord rather than 50lb test for the escape pull, but if you trust fishing line it's all good.
The glue on the disc sander will definitely be degraded. You might want to add a small client at the highest point on the wall. It will do much for the evening out of the temperature. You should also consider placing som insulation foam in the ceiling since that would be getting the most sunlight from the top and it will radiate inside a lot. It's ridiculous how hot it can get inside a metal roof shed without any ventilation. You should also put down some plastic underneath to separate the inside from the moisture comming up through the concrete. Avoid if possible a to small.of a gap between the ground and the wood on the sides since it will.allow water to sit or even wick up between the wood and the metal inside. Great build I would need something a bit bigger though so will have to find another solution.
only comment - you probably did the wrong thing with roofing screws. You should have screwed into the RIDGE not the valley, you've now got a point where the water could get in if your rubber grommets deteriorate (or should I say WHEN)... Best thing to do now is flip them over and voila, they're screwed into the ridge! :) Love your builds. Looking forward to seeing what the next transformation of the workshop will be!
The overlap is sufficient for this small structure. I may have done one extra overlap and put some silicone caulk in it if this was a much bigger shed, but it’s working out well and we’ve had lots of rain since I built it here in Florida still bone dry.
🧡 my guess would be a minimum of 6 takes. Love the ingenuity and sticktooitiveness (yea, not a real word--but you get my meaning) and thank you for keeping the oopses in there. Chris, be well with your family and mad props being sent your way... you are a good dude! My measure of a "good dude" is someone I would sit down and have a beer with and you sir I would have two with (well, as long as they are micro craft brews-who would drink that other swill?😆)
Honest question, but why could you not make it slant towards the house and have an overhang that would make use of the gutter that is behind it? To me that makes more sense for water management and to keep it from splashing up on the siding and making it prematurely rot. Still a great video. Well done.
First of all, thank you secondly, the gutters actually needed to be replaced or taken down. But the main reason was I wanted to conserve space I didn’t want it sticking out from the house. I do need to reside this entire house actually hopefully within the next year or so.
Dude your shed is too close to the house. Buwhahahaha.... This is an outstanding use of alternative resources to tackle a build. If I can ever get my back straightened out, I need to build a 10'X12" shed. Your ingenuity in this build is inspiring.
1#🧡 I have faith in you, friend. I have my autistic neighbor, age 9, every Wednesday, 6-10 hours, depending on mom's work hours that day. Mom is alone with him, a multi-handicapped 17 year old and a 14 year old.... 3 amazing boys, and an amazing mom. I call them "Special-skilled-children", as I learn from them every time we're together. ❤❤❤
Well i was wondering what happened to my favorite craftsman. Come to find out my alerts had been unchecked. This would make sense as to why your views have dropped dramatically. I really like your content. Keep up the good work. I love the children element it shows your human. Congratulations on the new addition. Stay blessed.

Great idea and fun to watch. Didn’t see where you ran the safety latch release line but be sure it is reachable by the smallest kid. Nice work!
I really liked your creative design and Superior Caftsmanship whilst building this shed!
Well done, Sir!

5 times 🧡 shed looks good 👍🏻
Put some shelves in there for extra car engines. That metal shelving can take it.
Could use e track to anchor material.
Ithink I would use it for my equipment
How or what did you do to keep the roof from leaking at the overlapping seems?
The overlap is sufficient for this small structure. I may have done one extra overlap and put some silicone caulk in it if this was a much bigger shed, but it’s working out well and we’ve had lots of rain since I built it here in Florida still bone dry.
I built a chicken coop, using the metal roofing. I overlapped 3 ribs, and it leaks all along the seams. I too am in Florida .
The right blade you can def use a circular saw to cut metal
You could put wheels on the bottom of the frame. The kind that you can latch and unlatch
That’s a good idea. I need to find some heavy weighted wheels for sure.
You glued the 1x but not the t111?

Honest question, but why could you not make it slant towards the house and have an overhang that would make use of the gutter that is behind it? To me that makes more sense for water management and to keep it from splashing up on the siding and making it prematurely rot. Still a great video. Well done.
First of all, thank you secondly, the gutters actually needed to be replaced or taken down. But the main reason was I wanted to conserve space I didn’t want it sticking out from the house. I do need to reside this entire house actually hopefully within the next year or so.
Sr …you just gained another subscriber, thank you

Great idea for a shed what was the final dimension of it? ❤ 5 takes on that shot.
Dude your shed is too close to the house. Buwhahahaha.... This is an outstanding use of alternative resources to tackle a build. If I can ever get my back straightened out, I need to build a 10'X12" shed. Your ingenuity in this build is inspiring.

Looks great. #🧡4
That is drip edge not fascia but some states all just fascia but most use that metal drip edge to prevent rot if the roof has water drip off
1#🧡 I have faith in you, friend. ❤❤❤
I was thinking the same, why didnt you go two racks deep? Maybe next time 👍👍👍👍
Love your stuff man. Your audio levels were a little wonky on this video, one minute couldn't hear you then it's blowing up my speakers lol!
Thanks for letting me know. What device are you watching this on? I’m just curious and are you using headphones?
@@AGlimpseInside I was on my computer with speakers
Why self taping screws instead of bolts?
Well i was wondering what happened to my favorite craftsman. Come to find out my alerts had been unchecked. This would make sense as to why your views have dropped dramatically. I really like your content. Keep up the good work. I love the children element it shows your human. Congratulations on the new addition. Stay blessed.
Not the first person I’ve heard this from for some reason. Thank you so much for tuning in. I really appreciate it and thanks for letting me know.
