I'm an old fart who's always learning stuff, so I've run into a wide variety of teachers over the decades, and you're one of the best I've ever encountered, Mike. You answer questions I have that no one else does. Thanks so much for sharing. You're creating a lot of good drummers.
What a great class once again. Thanks for that!! I'm a bass player for like 20yrs but always loved playing drums and such since I was a kid. I finally purchased a drum kit recently and I'm studying drums for the first time in my life mainly because of your videos!!
Guilherme Gombarovits Ah Thanks Guilherme! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. I’m so pleased these videos have helped you man, that’s lovely to hear. Rock on! 👊🏻
I've been playing paradiddle-diddles with paradiddles for 40 years as a warmup exercise in 5/8. I also like them as a sextuplet variation, because with a little "loosening up" they have a different "flavor" than rllrrl or rlrlrl depending on accenting and emphasis. I also like them for moving straight down the toms on occasion because of the tiny extra lead time for my right hand to move to the next drum, allowing for a bit more visual flourish on the way to the next tom. Great for exaggerating the accent on each beat. Just makes them a little more "showy". Thanks for giving me a new look at one of my favorite rudiments! That little groove is now part of my toolbox. Works awesomely as a 12/8 shuffle! As always, one of the most concise and clearly explained drum lessons on the internet. Keep up the excellent work!
63 years old, with rhythm in my bones (if I do say so myself). I have about a dozen lessons under my belt. Wish I'd taken it up in my teens, but better late than never. Your enthusiasm and simplicity in teaching just earned a new subscriber. I can tell that you really love what you do. I might just have to can my teacher! :D
@@MikeBarnesDrums Absolutely! This channel is going to be in heavy rotation, mate. I just wish I had space for a kit in my place. Who am I kidding....I wish I had the funds! :D
This is incredible!!! You are such a fantastic teacher. Your instructions are easy to follow, you give a lot of information with brevity, and the transition between talking about the beats and showing how to play them is so smooth and seamless. You're an absolute hero. I'm going to look at the rest of the videos on your channel. Are you a drum teacher by profession? Or do you just do lessons on TH-cam? I'm guessing you teach the drums because of how good you are at it.
Thanks for watching. Backbeat on 2 and 4 as always, played with the right hand/hi-hat hand. Transcription here: drive.google.com/file/d/1CMMoY54E9zj9LyVOCT1lL7UioFyJorQN/view?usp=sharing
@@MikeBarnesDrums thank you some Phil Collins stuff is brilliant hard to know what he's actually doing any tips on prog drumming would be much appreciated
Just bought a hihat snare and kickdrum in hopes of figuring out this particular beat + variations. This is by far the only video Ive found that really slaps haha, great execution. A good benchmark! th-cam.com/video/cexnmeEsEsM/w-d-xo.html
Best lesson ever seen about drumkit application of pardiddles

great
🙏🏻👊🏻
@@MikeBarnesDrums thank you
That 1st one sped up sounds crazy, I don’t get how it’s sounding like that 😰 have you added drags or is it just the extra bass drums
When I attempt these exercises it almost seems like I’m trying to play too many beats!! Presumably because I’m much slower than you 🥴
Great.
Cheers Andrea!
@@MikeBarnesDrums greetings from italy

Ian Sherwood Cheers Ian, thanks for watching! Yes will put some Genesis on the list! 👊🏻
