  • Lemon Myrtle, Backhousia citriodora is a native bushfood and the queen of lemon scented plants. Kath Kermode from Daleys Fruit Tree Nursery, showing you this beautiful shrub or small tree. The fresh leaves can be used in herbal infusions, or dried and crushed or powered and used in cakes, breads and aromatic oil. A lovely plant to grow, it is stunning in full flower and the nectar rich blossoms attract a wide diversity of insects.

- The obvious fascination of the very friendly & likeable garden expert lady is immediately transferred to the viewer: VERY nice video, such a convincing spear broken for the lemon myrtle: great, THANK YOU so much for sharing. -

Hi Kath. I concur. What an amazing bit of Aussie Buck Tucker. For years I have been distilling essential oil from Leptospermum petersonii, Lemon scented tea tree and I am ABSOLUTELY in love with this tree also.
Like Lemon myrtle, it is also strongly antimicrobial, maybe more so. I had a unique design steam distillation setup that maximizes output, which I would be happy to share in case you are interested in extracting essential oils from your botanicals.

This sounds very interesting Petros. I would love to see your distillation setup, please share. I also love Leptospermum petersonii, I will have to make a video on this next time.

@@daleysfr I'm sorry to say I sold it a few years ago when I moved to FNQ, but the design is still very much with me :) It all starts with a good steam boiler, and lots of stainless steel. Followed by chemical engineering design principles that maximise return for given plant mass.

As usual, another GREAT video ! I like to grow "mainly" natives, but often mix in a lot of other fantastic plants...and I need to find a source for this plant in the USA !! Thanks for sharing :)

They just came out with new research that it may help in building muscle. I've been drinking it hot and it's very delicious.

I planted 6 to cover a fence line of 9 meters. They're only about 70cm tall right now. I want them to grow to 3 meters tall as a roughly trimmed screen. How often should I trim them, and how much at a time would you suggest?

Would the root system be suitable close to a dwelling? There's a spot in my yard I'd like to fill from which I have just removed a Ficus, planted by the previous owner, which had already started spreading towards the foundation.

I believe they're a non-invasive root system and should be ok

    Hello,
Is it possible to graft lemon myrtle and if yes on which kind of tree?
