    Wonder what night vision capability these little guys will have? Doubt they have any built in IR illumination, but maybe that’s some accessory product pending for applications that would need it.

  • @bigusdallastexamas5740
    @bigusdallastexamas5740 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Chris, another aspect of having the microphone/speaker as a separate accessory would meet the requirement in some jurisdictions that make recording audio illegal without dual/all party consent. Similar to the way there is a G4 Pro model available without audio capability.

    • @yt310yt
      @yt310yt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      G4 Pro without audio is due to chip shortages. You can disable the mic on the regular G4 Pro to comply with local laws.

    • @bigusdallastexamas5740
      @bigusdallastexamas5740 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yt310yt I’m aware of the disable feature in the G4 Pro. I can also tell you that it didn’t work properly at first. I opened a ticket with Ubiquiti early on where we could still hear audio with the slider set to off. That then led to the permanently disabled function.

    this is a great Idea, but they need to worry more about getting supply chain and supplies of current products, and maybe doing something about the over changing of current products on other sites. Possibly getting what you currently have bug fixes done. Unifi is doing what Apple does keep adding but never fix or enhance what you already have.

    The form factor is awesome. Instead of next to an AP, what if they made an AP with an integrated camera builtin. Would just need to pull down and swivel slightly. Any existing AP could be replaced and no need to run a new cable.

    Problems / BS:
    1. There are no 30m cables available, and the cables are proprietary. It comes with a 1m cable.
    2. Small form factor is great, but where do you install the box if it must be within 1m of the camera?
    I really want to use some of these, but I'm missing something basic.

    What is the cable that attaches the lens and the main unit for as long as 30 meters? Is it based on USB even when USB has the maximum length of 20 feet (6 meters)?

    • @LeeSteventon
      @LeeSteventon ปีที่แล้ว

      I just received one of these cameras and the cable that it comes with to connect the controlling unit to the camera is just 1 metre (3.3 ft) long! What they don't tell you is that you cannot connect just a "normal" USB cable to it as it has to carry video! Is the specifications it just states that the cable is "Theta proprietary", but nowhere to be seen in either the store or Early Access is the cable that is 30Ft long!

    • @maxmustermann7536
      @maxmustermann7536 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LeeSteventon Thats true i also got one and tried to connect it with USB type C. It does not work and there is no longer cabel available on the market. So yeah it says the camera can be set up 30metres away but you cannot do that because there is no cable available that is longer then the provided 1m cable 🤭

I use Passive IRs in house to turn lights on when the room is entered but due to the characteristics it requires quite a long delay to turn lights off after the person leaves.. How does the 360 degrees lens work? I should imagine flush to wall or ceiling can only give a maximum of 180 degrees FOV.
    People counting has been around for a while in other cameras at a much cheaper price point, but this form factor seems to be unique.
    The displays are just wanky marketing stuff really as far as I am concerned. Most of these things will be mounted in locations where people do not look at them. Like the switches get mounted in racks. I wish they would scrap the displays and work on either reducing the price that little bit or getting the software for the device spot on.
    For people in the Unifi Protect ecosystem, these are quite a unqiue form factor and definitely have a use case. We will see if they ever move out of EA, as Ubiquiti have a track record of abandoning EA devices.

    Reading the specs on the unit. The cable for the camera back to the magic box is 1m usb cable. The 30m is the length I suspect is the length of the ethernet cable it can use.
    And then reading their install guide... they want you to mount the magic box to the wall behind the camera. Huh? How is that going to work as you need a 1 1/8" hole saw for the camera to get access to the inside of the wall say in your house or business. This seems completely worthless unless you have access to the other side of the wall as you have 1m usb to play with to get to the ethernet port. Will have to wait and see some install videos. But from the docs on their site...i'm not holding out much hope for it.

      I made the comment before I watched the video and I’m not impressed. The whole benefit of Ethernet Poe cameras is a single cable to the device. Nice that the camera is slim but now I have to figure out where to mount and discreetly hide this box? How and I going to integrate this into conduit? I’m just sad that UI can’t get it together. I was all prepped to go all into the ecosystem but… stopped at networking and am stuck… so I haven’t continued with any of the products. Just get rid of the line or rebrand it to something else and stop pulling my leg. But I do enjoy the crosstalk solutions video. On that note I wish there was more serious review of the product but I get it’s just a preview and not a demo but even still I start to question how unbiased the information is even if helpful.

    This is just a standard lipstick camera with an external network attached controller. Very common design. Probably uses interchangeable M12 lens. I like these type personally, but for security a visible camera is better as a deterrent. This is fine for retail locations like apple, where you would have to be outright stupid to think your not being recorded, or in an office ... though I seriously hope your not thinking of putting a camera in every single office pointing at the poor fool who works for you to micromanage them into bashing the keyboard every 12 seconds.
    Hopefully you can run the microphone accessory on the same cable with a usbc splitter. usb4 is capable of transferring a lot of data and power, and at 30m its definitely fiber optic cable. No need for another cable just for a small audio stream.
    Personally against AI in camera. Cameras should be dumb video streamers, ai belongs in the controller soft/hardware which can be easily upgraded and can process all the cameras. Only excuse to put in on camera itself is selective offline storage and uploading, so it can only upload events of interest, which is only needed if the surveillance system is not on the same network
    Overall not impressed, but frankly there are no usbc lipstick cameras I can find on the market, and native poe ones are... very sparse. So its a welcome addition, even though I don't care for smart cameras

    Would absolutely love to see this form factor from other brands, as I'm not a fan of UniFi's ecosystem.

    From an otherwise fantastic product line, what an absolute stupid design for something that could have been great. If this is meant for discrete installation having a giant dongle that you can't stick into a wall is a BIG miss (side note: what is the purpose of a screen?). How is this supposed to be mounted in an area where discretion matters?!?!
