The 2019 MMA is amongst the most amazing over the top performances you will ever see. It caps off with a performance of Dionysus which literally is one of BTS's most extremely creative and jaw dropping lives. The whole 38 minute show is legendary. P.S., your line BTS is not K Pop has a complex derivation which in my opinion is used somewhat loosely and vociferously by some ARMY who conflate BTS's exceptionalism and diversity with somehow exiting from fundamentals inherent to the Idol platform. I think it is ok to opine BTS is not K Pop but stating it as fact without genuinely understanding the history and dynamics of K pop risks drinking someone's Kool-Aid. Yes BTS in an effort to stop Westerners from putting all Korean groups in a single basket told Western interviewers to see them as BTS, not K Pop. They said so because they recognize they are functioning as the tide which raises all ships and they want each group, themselves included, to be measured individually much as Western artists are. My opinion is these comments unleashed a can of worms with stans who would subsequently go wild saying BTS is not K Pop without the context of their statements.

Dionysus' story is actually so interesting bcs he is believe to be asian and only came ro greece by chariot pulled by panthers. Hence he was considered an outsider by the greek gods. So bts referrwncing dionysus being an outsider is kinda like how they ( 7south korean musicians ) came to the west and sort of being considered an outside by the western music industry is so mind blowing to me.
Just fyi: The lyric translation is really bad on this one, but you explained yourself in the beginning of your reaction. Lemoring and Jaeguchi are sooooo bad. On top of that, the lyric video was many times wrong who is singing. A lot of the parts were sung by Jungkook and Jin and not Jimin. I hope you react to the live performance including the intro on MMA 2019. I recommend to react to their whole performance on MMA 2019. It is long, but one of their best performances ever. 🍷

So we get drunk, lost in art, but we also get reborn through it. And it's the last song of the Persona album, predicting being reborn as a consequence of the MOTS series.

A lot of people have mentioned the 2019 MMA performance and it really is jaw dropping but you should watch the whole thing from the beginning to truly get the scope of the whole thing. And it’s even more crazy that it’s at an award show and all the other kpop idols are fangirling over BTS’ performance. Bit before you watch that you should react to microcosmos, and persona because they perform those as well.

You really got the overall meaning of the song but *Okay, here a little interpretation/ explanation of Dyonisus* Firts keep in mind that Dionysus is a God often called Eleutherios, meaning 'the liberator,' because his wine, music, and ecstatic dance *freed his followers from self-consciousness and the restraints of society* - Dyonisus also means *born twice* so it's known that BTS it's basing these Map of the Soul albums on the Jungian psychology, and that the "persona" represents the social mask that it shown to the people, this song represents the process of making music, the process of turning into their stage personas, like a *reincarnation* . The Korean word for art is yesul (예술) and the Korean word for alcohol is sul (술) that's why RM says "Art is alcohol too" so instead of telling us to drink alcohol, the lyrics are actually saying "Listen to my song" and " Get crazy about my music". And of course the creative part of making music is a time-consuming difficult process so that's why they mention "pain of the creation" (not creature of creation) and how they're always on the studio (parties) and when they're finally "drunk" in art, their personas appears and receives names such as “idol” or “artist”, but at the end it is ultimately their own perceptions of themselves that fuel what they do "What does it matter if I’m an idol or an artist?" loved this. you guys would love doolset’s (a treasured Korean army in the fandom) blog fully dedicated to translating and interpreting all of bts’ music. not only are the translations MILES better than this lyrics (which I don’t fault y’all for watching btw, it’s totally understandable as they are very accessible and whatnot despite being abysmal 😂) but there was fantastic breakdowns of the Korean wordplay and cultural references that non-Koreans would have never picked up otherwise! This channel called "DIAL" has decent lyrics translation videos. It's not as detailed and in depth as websites like Doolset, Muish blog, Bangtansubs or BTS ARMY translators on Twitter like Wisha (doyou__bangtan), STUDIO_0613, ColinSH3... But these may be less confusing and easier to understand than Lemoring or Jaeguchi, who rush their videos and steal uncompleted translations... DIAL's Dionysus: th-cam.com/video/ETSRnenZQf8/w-d-xo.html I recommend their videos, they're aesthetic and it's easy to follow the lines since the letters are medium size, not too small or too big. They don't show you visually who is singing, but the boys voices are generally easy to identify by sound... And when they're not, those other lyric videos often make mistakes anyways.

I hope you check out the MAMA 2019 performance, the awrd shows performance in Korea are so good, compare to the US like grammy where their stage is so small and they are only allowed to perform one or two songs. All the details - Ariadne constellation in the Lights with their individual performances to remixed versions of their earlier songs... Be aware though that there are several parts of the whole performance that were pre-filmed.
Honestly props to you guys, you managed to get a pretty accurate interpretation of the song out of a really awful lyric video 😂. It's okay, you guys are still learning and you'll eventually get a better grasp of which lyric videos are trustworthy or not. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a DKDKTV explanation for this one, but you can check out doolset (on your own time if you don't think it would make for a very interesting reaction), they really give good explanations for the references and the Korean word play in each line. 1. Most of the references are to Greek mythology instead of Korean culture. The grapes, the thrysus, being born twice, are all references to Dionysus, who is the god of wine but also of art and revelry. 2. In Korean, alcohol (pronounced like "sul") and art (pronounced like "yesul"), sound very similar, so BTS play with this idea throughout the song and connect it again to Dionysus, who represents both art and alcohol. 3. The verse you were trying to analyze in detail was just a really bad translation 😅. It doesn't say CREATURE of creation, it says PAIN of creation. So basically they're saying to drink up and revel in the pain of creating music. Then it says "the suffering of a generation", which in my opinion kind of calls back to Baepsae. I think they're saying that this generation has suffered, but they can bite into that and use it to create art. And finally it says "communication with myself", which I think is referring to how creating art allows you to tap into different parts of your own mind and understand yourself better. Also, "pain", "suffering", and "communication" all rhyme in Korean, which just makes the verse more satisfying to listen to. I hope you react to the MMA 2019 performance of this song, it's one of my favorites they've ever done.

A lot of people have mentioned the 2019 MMA performance and it really is jaw dropping but you should watch the whole thing from the beginning to truly get the scope of the whole thing. And it’s even more crazy that it’s at an award show and all the other kpop idols are fangirling over BTS’ performance. Bit before you watch that you should react to microcosmos, and persona because they perform those as well.

Firts keep in mind that Dionysus is a God often called Eleutherios, meaning 'the liberator,' because his wine, music, and ecstatic dance *freed his followers from self-consciousness and the restraints of society*
- Dyonisus also means *born twice* so it's known that BTS it's basing these Map of the Soul albums on the Jungian psychology, and that the "persona" represents the social mask that it shown to the people, this song represents the process of making music, the process of turning into their stage personas, like a *reincarnation* . The Korean word for art is yesul (예술) and the Korean word for alcohol is sul (술) that's why RM says "Art is alcohol too" so instead of telling us to drink alcohol, the lyrics are actually saying "Listen to my song" and " Get crazy about my music". And of course the creative part of making music is a time-consuming difficult process so that's why they mention "pain of the creation" (not creature of creation) and how they're always on the studio (parties) and when they're finally "drunk" in art, their personas appears and receives names such as “idol” or “artist”, but at the end it is ultimately their own perceptions of themselves that fuel what they do "What does it matter if I’m an idol or an artist?" This is also a clap back to their song "idol" (being an kpop idol has a negative connotation in SK, they're seen as puppets and even if BTS broke the mold of that concept, there's still a fight over the title they should receive ¿idols or artists?)
So this song works as an *acknowledgement of their personas as part of themselves* and also shows their desire of not only make music that people love but also that can be helpful for them, like a method to achieve the *liberation* (like Dyonisus freed his followers)
*Some wordplay and references*
- In Korean the word for grapes (포도) is also a term for empty seats at concerts. They're "eating grapes" which references how they're doing sold outs in every stadium. ( In myth Dionysus also teaches the art of growing and cultivating grapes)
-The Dyonisus' Thyrsus, symbol of prosperity, fertility, hedonism, and pleasure/enjoyment in general, is compared to their mics
- The "pain of creation" it's referencing for one side, the hard process of making music and also the story of how Dionysus was born
- "Born as a Kpop Idol, reborn as an artist" this maybe represents how the perception that the media has over them has change once they've become famous (but as I mentioned before, there's still people that refuse call them artists) again the reincarnation thing it's bc Dyonisus means "born twice" I also love your commentary (14:15) it's really clever
- "The new record is a fight against oneself" because BTS just keep setting and breaking their own records
- Hit the Gong and say "onghaeya” (옹헤야) is a Korean exclamation present in traditional folk music. Through the use of this phrase, BTS ensures that elements of South Korean culture remain ever prevalent in their music

loved this. you guys would love doolset’s (a treasured Korean army in the fandom) blog fully dedicated to translating and interpreting all of bts’ music. not only are the translations MILES better than this lyrics (which I don’t fault y’all for watching btw, it’s totally understandable as they are very accessible and whatnot despite being abysmal 😂) but there was fantastic breakdowns of the Korean wordplay and cultural references that non-Koreans would have never picked up otherwise!

This channel called "DIAL" has decent lyrics translation videos. It's not as detailed and in depth as websites like Doolset, Muish blog, Bangtansubs or BTS ARMY translators on Twitter like Wisha (doyou__bangtan), STUDIO_0613, ColinSH3... But these may be less confusing and easier to understand than Lemoring or Jaeguchi, who rush their videos and steal uncompleted translations...

I recommend their videos, they're aesthetic and it's easy to follow the lines since the letters are medium size, not too small or too big. They don't show you visually who is singing, but the boys voices are generally easy to identify by sound... And when they're not, those other lyric videos often make mistakes anyways.

I hope you check out the MAMA 2019 performance, the awrd shows performance in Korea are so good, compare to the US like grammy where their stage is so small and they are only allowed to perform one or two songs. Imagine them singing this while dancing so hard, the choreo for this is insane.
In Korea, idols are not treated as real artist, they are being looked at as manufactured performers and BTS tried so hard to get away from and show people that idols are artists too. They can put out good and meaningful music too.

2019 MMA performance is the most epic performance I have ever witnessed. All the details - Ariadne constellation in the Lights with their individual performances to remixed versions of their earlier songs... Be aware though that there are several parts of the whole performance that were pre-filmed.

Honestly props to you guys, you managed to get a pretty accurate interpretation of the song out of a really awful lyric video 😂. It's okay, you guys are still learning and you'll eventually get a better grasp of which lyric videos are trustworthy or not.
Unfortunately, I don't think there's a DKDKTV explanation for this one, but you can check out doolset (on your own time if you don't think it would make for a very interesting reaction), they really give good explanations for the references and the Korean word play in each line.
1. Most of the references are to Greek mythology instead of Korean culture. The grapes, the thrysus, being born twice, are all references to Dionysus, who is the god of wine but also of art and revelry.
2. In Korean, alcohol (pronounced like "sul") and art (pronounced like "yesul"), sound very similar, so BTS play with this idea throughout the song and connect it again to Dionysus, who represents both art and alcohol.
3. The verse you were trying to analyze in detail was just a really bad translation 😅. It doesn't say CREATURE of creation, it says PAIN of creation. So basically they're saying to drink up and revel in the pain of creating music. Then it says "the suffering of a generation", which in my opinion kind of calls back to Baepsae. I think they're saying that this generation has suffered, but they can bite into that and use it to create art. And finally it says "communication with myself", which I think is referring to how creating art allows you to tap into different parts of your own mind and understand yourself better. Also, "pain", "suffering", and "communication" all rhyme in Korean, which just makes the verse more satisfying to listen to.
I hope you react to the MMA 2019 performance of this song, it's one of my favorites they've ever done.
I get the desire to have a video to analyze but for the love of everything that is holy, please use doolset for analysis, analyzing incorrect/broken translations is counterproductive and you deprive yourselves of the nuances/references/wordplay. Dionysus has beautiful wordplay in it
