Families all over Britain watched Bullseye on a Sunday. It was great and everyone rooted for the folk to win. Jim Bowen was a great host with some super derogatory things to say which made it even funnier. The times when we all had nothing…..but we had it all !
Probably the only TV presenter of his time called Jim that didn't turn out to be some kind of pervo, just a good honest man with a cracking sense of humour and a firm handshake!

I once interviewed Jim Bowen for The Times. I asked him about the prizes on Bullseye, saying that they were a bit modest. "Modest?" he snorted. "That's a very Times word. I'd say they were shit."
Brilliant tv moment, genuine, clean, non judgmental fun. I spent many a Sunday afternoon watching bullseye, and so did most of the country. Better days than we realised.😀

This was in 1984 according to the credits. Here in 2024… can’t believe it’s been 40 years since this gem of a show. I loved watching bullseye, Sunday nights were never the same afterwards. 😎
I always remember this finale - the third place guys winning the Metro. Magic television. Those were the days of REAL people, not the fake over-confident, professional gameshow contestants we have now. I utterly loathe the people on telly now. The audience loved Jim because he was natural and even fluffed his lines now and then. I'd rather watch old episodes of this than middle class crap like 'Pointless'.
Your 80p is safe. The £6 quid from a dart player no one has heard of is on its way to behind the bar of the British Legion in Sunderland after the show. So do you want to gamble the prizes youve won, the set of marigolds and a fish slice for Bullys star prize which is a weekend in Margate?
There was an episode that turned out in the same way. The first team that was eliminated (a couple of blokes from Belfast) ended up winning the star prize (also a car) and one of the guys dropped an F-Bomb after they'd won the car which couldn't be edited out so the episode was never broadcast. I'd love to see that one.
Bullseye was one of those shows that wasn't really a game show, more like a bit of fun with darts and questions with some jokes thrown in. The prizes were excellent for the time, quite valuable, I always liked seeing Jim get cash out to hand to the contestants but the really great thing about the show was even if you were the first team to be eliminated, you could still be in with a chance of playing the final round if the other teams opted out, not many shows that would do that, once you were out you were out. All in all a great show with a great atmosphere with Jim and co. Never to be replicated.
Jim was a good guy, I was working at butlins in 1985 , he was at the end of the pig and whistle bar relaxing , he was cracking jokes and was making everyone laugh…
He gave the *real* sense of participant/viewer interaction of having a bit of fun and ease about everything on the show. Nowadays, the presenters are too smarmy, political, ruthless etc. Too be honest, ITV's gameshow programmes back then produced *much more* of Jim Bowen's genre due to different TV regions/companies producing the shows, thus setting their standards, rules, atmosphere, which made their shows more unique and much better, compared to the nationalized likes of Brucie and Bob over on the Beeb. All went out the window with the 1990 British Broadcasting Act and the corpse finally being shelled with the 2003 ITV merger.
I loved watching this on a Sunday evening when I was younger. Great show and great memories. Wot I didn't like was the celebritys that weren't dart players.
