Around 200 made up Task Force Ranger including Rangers, Delta, DevGru, the Nightstalkers (160th SOAR) and Air Force Forward Controller. If you watch the commentary on Black Hawk Down, Colonel McKnight actually says they used to fly over the city 4 or 5 times a day so it became a normal everyday occurence. TFR was denied critical assets like an AC-130 gunship which would have saved more lives but they didn't want collateral damage. In the film, a Little Bird flies into the first crash to evacuate Delta Operator Dan Busch who was defending the crash site - he went through 11 mags defending the survivors. The pilots in the film are the ACTUAL pilots who evacuated Dan Busch in Mogadishu.
I remember reading the book soon after it was released. The story was originally published as a series of articles in a newspaper. There was quite a bit of criticism of the army in general and the Rangers in particular. The lack of knowledge by the army played, IMO, a greater part than the lack of equipment. The helicopter patrols annoyed the hell out of the locals because the Rangers used to dangle their feet from the helicopters. In the Somali culture this was the equivalent of "mooning or brown eye". Very little ground surveillance was carried out, hence the convoy getting lost. They even mis-identified the people in the meeting.
I'm glad someone finally gave credit to our Pakistani and Malaysian allies. As an infantryman who has seen how many countries and soldiers were out there with us in Afghanistan, I always hate how movies gloss over the fact that our allies lost troops in so many of our campaigns. They were as brave as any American soldier I served with. There were even ANA soldiers who were badass. I remember this one dude who told us to forget calling EOD for an IED because we would have been out there for hours waiting for EOD to show up. Dude had us all move out and pull security while he dismantled the IED with a damn knife. A knife! And he was done in 1/10th the time it would have taken EOD to dig it up and blow it up. I seriously hope that guy and his family made it out safe after Afghanistan fell.

He was a young Lieutenant in the in the Rangers during this action and some of the stories he was telling were jaw dropping eye openers, impressive bravery while completely surrounded by what must have seemed a whole city.
The book Durant wrote was In The Company of Heroes and Mark Bowden wrote Black Hawk Down. Bowden's book covers both sides of the battle. Great read. One thing the narrator missed was that 24th Special Tactics Combat Controllers and Pararescuemen were attached to the Delta element amd went into the city with them. The PJs were aboard the CSAR bird and roped into the first crash site. There were three PJs on board and Tech Sergeant Tim Wilkinson received the Air Force Cross for his actions. Also, CWO Jones played himself in the film and reenacted his part where he brought Bush back to Star 41. Several of the Ranger extras and a number of the pilots were all involved in the raid itself as the movie was shot only 8 years later. Ex
Im so glad I watched this. I was hoping you would comment on the two delta snipers and you did. Those men were heroes, true warriors. They went in on a suicide mission so that their brothers didnt have to die alone. They earned those metals of honor. Glad they are on my side.
Early in 1992 the Marines were in Somalia until January of 1993. One of the Marines on the ground was Farrah Adid's son Hussein Adid. He was sent to school in the US and once he graduated joined the US Marines as an Artilleryman. Later in 1996 when Farrah Adid died Hussein became the leader of his faction in Somalia. As for the QRF units they weren't notified of the operation until it was already going south. Which was why mobilization took so long.
Great reaction, but I'm surprised you didn't get the geography of the operation and the presence of 10th Mountain from the movie - 10th Mountain are mentioned, I'm sure. Seen the movie many times, I'm a fan of Ridley Scott and I think he did a good job with it. They focused on the two whose crash sites everyone else was trying to reach, causing events to unfold as they did. Just getting hit isn’t that significant in itself. It’s just good storytelling pure and simple. I mean, there’s no argument to be made for portraying the two that didn’t affect the battle activities with the same import as those that dictated the movements and actions of all other combatants on both sides, even in a historical account.
It should have been a simple snatch and grab mission, get in, capture Aidids men and then evacuate out, instead it became a long drawn out battle that the soldiers on the ground were not equipped to deal with due to the lack of heavy weapons and ac130 support etc.

And from what I know, the militia uses a different kind of warhead for their RPGs. They had a proximity fuse in their warheads so that when it reaches a certain range or height it would explode and blow shrapnels everywhere, like an AAA.
In the Soviet squad organization, the Grenadiers were armed with RPGs, so the RPG-7s are just as common as AK-47s. The RPGs also proved effective against hovering or slow moving helicopters. Apparently in Afghanistan the Taliban would fire RPGs from the top of hills against helicopters flying below them, in a terrain following flight profile.
This battle should have been a lesson for the US military and the UK on the vulnerability of lightly armoured vehicles and built up area fighting against tribal fighters, but we obviously didn't.
This video is tremendous. Hard to imagine the carnage and confusion in such a large, asymmetric fight like that. Especially considering this is pre GWOT and MOUT wasn't nearly as well understood and refined back then.
The UN forces stationed in the stadium wasnt informed about the operation since it was classfied and only deployed later that night. They pretty much had to scramble and rush out.
Hi Marine again! Yes the Movie was exceptionally good and to me very realistic with all the struggle there, troops surrounded by hostiles. One of my favorite 'war movies', but again, the director Ridley Scott can make an realistic atmosphere in in to a Sci-Fi horror movie:) THX for your reaction!
In the movie it looks like they were skilled in hitting that Black Hawk with the RPG. But in reality they shooting loads of RPGs at the helicopters. Anyway, great movie. Those sniper guys that landed knowing they have zero help to back them up. Brave heros both of them. That part of the movie gets to me everytime when they acknowledge that they understand they wont have help and still want to land.

I watch the movie Black hawk down .they didn't bring water or food even extra ammo .the operation was supposed to be a 30min operation but it end taking the next day for them to return to base
I read the book almost 20 years ago. A good movie and even better a book. I remember one of the Delta Force members noticing how his "..semi armour piercing bullets just snapped through the skinnies and they kept running.. while our guys got hit with the skinnies' 7,62 rounds and instantly collapsed.." I need to find that book from somewhere and read it again.
The US military says they use 5.56 to save weight, but what is the point of carrying all that ammo when it doesn't kill? Sure, if you get a good shot or shoot someone enough times, it will kill someone. But I'd rather us rounds that can kill or disable with one or two rounds. I remember carrying my 203 rounds (like 20+ HE rounds as well as like 5+ smoke rounds), 10 mags for my M4, eye and finger print collecting equipment, extra rounds for my SAW gunner, extra rounds for my 240 gunner, water, food, C4 if we were planning on blowing up stuff, etc. Not to mention body armor, helmet, and my rifle. What the hell is a few more pounds in 7.62 ammo? I've never been part of something with so little common sense as when I was an infantryman in the army.
All of the cooks were rangers or had been trained. But important note. The convoy didn’t get lost. What happened is the very wide trucks could not fit down the narrow roads. The Somalis had built on to there houses into the road. So they had little 6’ wide roads. The c2 was trying to guide them. But from the air they could t see the vehicles couldn’t fit. So they literally had to go in reverse and back up threw a gun fight. It was worst case scenario.
It’s sad hearing what these soldiers had to go through on that day, the suffering and heroism displayed by the individual soldiers to fight for their brothers
Rangers are fire baby ... the missions they do with beret and seals are so heavy , Gen. Garisson was so fkin dope to keep these tier one operators in one hand... WHOOOAAA
trust me buddy, know matter how good you are, you cant take on a whole city by yourself and to be honest, delta force and SEALS are arguably better than SAS if not, on the same level.
The general impression I think people get, is that this operation was a embarrassing defeat for the American special forces. I remember at the time, that the ever opportunist media jumped on this as an opportunity to paint a certain narrative, just as today, the facts aren't a priority! But when you look into it, and find out exactly what happened, why it happened, and above all else, the casualty numbers on the Somali rebel side, you understand just what the US forces were taking on, and just how incredible it was that any, never mind, most, made it out alive! Being from the UK, I've grown up listening to our corrupt, disingenuous, and extremely dishonest media, paint a less than reputable picture of the US army, but in recent years I've started seeing things very differently! Western media, and the majority of politicians, cannot be trusted in the slightest! Who do people think tipped off the somali's? Treachering is common place in media and political circles, especially when it comes to the armed forces! For these people, political agenda, especially these days, comes above the life of a soldier!
The roofs are covered by militia. And the uh 60 black hawk miniguns were supposed to provide air support. They weren't cleared to get cobras and gunships for this mission. " To high profile" as you know the Blackhawks were shot down
Also the 2 delta operators did not go on a suicide mission. (Nobody in rescue units are wired with that throw in the towel mine set) That’s actually an insult to them for the people that have spread that. You gotta understand the context. The first crash site delta operators swooped in and saved some crew onboard the first crash. So they had confidence they could swoop in and save people on the second crash. WHAT HAPPENED YOU MIGHT ASK? They got down there and realized mike had a broken femur and nobody was ambulatory! So mike recalled they got silent probably they suddenly realized they just sold the farm or made there bed. The plan originally was swoop in and get the survivors and leave. But nobody in rescue units are programmed to die for nothing. You truly believe you can make it happen. And given 10-20min prior some guys made a rescue on the first crash they felt they could do it again.
the guys were definitely wishing they had some HUNGRY MARINES in Mog that day! For the people that are ignorant they will think that’s an insult. But the reality is Delta/Devgru/Seals/SF those teams are not big a troop or platoon was 13-15 guys. The rangers were meant for protecting delta. But ultimately the 10th mountain and Pakistani troops is who saved there life. It doesn’t matter how much training you have. You desperately need quantity in those situations. If not for the little birds they would’ve been over ran. - the movie Blackhawk down literally downplayed how many Somalis were killed that day. The little birds were mowing down hundreds or thousands but they didn’t feel people could stomach it in a movie.
You may have the modern gears and equipments but never underestimate the opposing force ingenuity and will to survive. American military should lower their ego when fighting in war. Things that seems impossible could happen, just like rabbit vs tortoise race. Don't sleep on them. You snooze, you lose.
The Operations Room is FANTASTIC!

Brother did you get my CSOR link securing center ice Toronto maple leafs game would be an awsome review
Love ya from Toronto Canada
You should react to his Desert Storm series, it's amazing.
Operation room has so many good videos
In the Soviet squad organization, the Grenadiers were armed with RPGs, so the RPG-7s are just as common as AK-47s. The RPGs also proved effective against hovering or slow moving helicopters. Apparently in Afghanistan the Taliban would fire RPGs from the top of hills against helicopters flying below them, in a terrain following flight profile.
watch part 2..the bit where Malaysian and Pakistani Un troops save the US asses
Super 61's rotor is in a museum near me
10th mountain division had been there from beginning in December 1992
This battle should have been a lesson for the US military and the UK on the vulnerability of lightly armoured vehicles and built up area fighting against tribal fighters, but we obviously didn't.
ikr us\uk commanders need to understand they're vulnerabilities and know how to handle them. this battle should be taught to every single officer.
This video is tremendous. Hard to imagine the carnage and confusion in such a large, asymmetric fight like that. Especially considering this is pre GWOT and MOUT wasn't nearly as well understood and refined back then.
we have blackhawk down
r.i.p randy shugart and Gary gorden
No sKiLls 🤓 🤡🤡
Loving the daily uploads🇮🇱🇺🇸
My father was the ranger captain leading the cooks and others into battle, he always says don’t fuck with ranger cooks
Hey if you skip a video to the end then replay it, it won't have ads. It'll help for reaction vids as well as just general
If you remember the movie correctly, Chock 4 was the men that went set up the perimeter at Super 6-1. Not Chock 2 it quote the movie
*Eversmen* hey, there's a black hawk down, Twomly, and Nelson your going to stay here, hold this corner, and exfil with the Hummviees, Galintine and smit, your coming with me, let's go Hoowa? Hoowa!
We are malis and we are Gangs 🇸🇴☠🏴☠️ we Killin it
Mean While in Malaysia starting 24/08/2023 there will be release a movie about that event, title as " Malbatt Misi ( mission ) Bakara " the story from the perspective on UN troops from Malaysia. Sincerely the movie not even close or goods like black hawk down. But if your intention to know more about the event, perhaps the movie will give some more the untold.
Theo, have you ever been in the theater of war?
I watch the movie Black hawk down .they didn't bring water or food even extra ammo .the operation was supposed to be a 30min operation but it end taking the next day for them to return to base
Who's talking? I hear a voice but the shot is empty 🤔
Ha ha, Theo should have been wearing a Stormtrooper helmet to correctly blend in to his environment!
Why some of the older Delta guys were carrying match grade M14, the younger guys laughed but not for long
The US military says they use 5.56 to save weight, but what is the point of carrying all that ammo when it doesn't kill?
Longest 30 minutes of their lives I'll bet, sometimes I forget this whole mission from start to finish was only meant to be half an hr
Whatt no PT2😔
All of the cooks were rangers or had been trained. But important note. The convoy didn’t get lost. What happened is the very wide trucks could not fit down the narrow roads. The Somalis had built on to there houses into the road. So they had little 6’ wide roads. The c2 was trying to guide them. But from the air they could t see the vehicles couldn’t fit. So they literally had to go in reverse and back up threw a gun fight. It was worst case scenario.
I love your uniform Sir🤩💗💗💗
Check out the battle of Towton, war of the Rose's.....the bloodiest battle ever on British soil.....and the history goes way way back
defiantly checkout his Desert storm series
One of my all time favorite movies
Loved the movie, loved the book
It’s sad hearing what these soldiers had to go through on that day, the suffering and heroism displayed by the individual soldiers to fight for their brothers
I remember first reading the book and couldn't imagine what those troops went through, SNAFU probably sums it up
AIDID LIONE AFRICA USA 🇺🇸SOMALIA 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why the cow?
He wasn't in the MOOOOO'D for walking
I was in that fight when I was young and I was scared that day
I wonder if The Operations Room has seen this.
Rangers are fire baby ... the missions they do with beret and seals are so heavy , Gen. Garisson was so fkin dope to keep these tier one operators in one hand... WHOOOAAA
Yea boii
Should of sent in the O.G’s they would of got the job done. 22 SAS 🔥💪🏻😁
trust me buddy, know matter how good you are, you cant take on a whole city by yourself and to be honest, delta force and SEALS are arguably better than SAS if not, on the same level.
Why would so many of the unarmed locals just gather outside like so close to such an intense firefight? I don’t get that at all
Black hawk down is a brilliant film 👍🏻🇬🇧.
I can hear his voice but where's the blokey dude gone? 😁
Somalia 🇸🇴Mogadishu
The roofs are covered by militia. And the uh 60 black hawk miniguns were supposed to provide air support. They weren't cleared to get cobras and gunships for this mission. " To high profile" as you know the Blackhawks were shot down
The Cobras also belonged to 10th Mtn who were told that the raid was occurring.
You're looking badass in that facepaint.
My biological “dad” was off the coast when this all went down he ended up going inland to help with extraction of some of the delta guys he was navy
I should also add he said the walls looked like “Swiss cheese”
Sir react on black hawk down movie scenes
Awesome movie and even better book.
Sir react on lone survivor climax fight scene
Fun fact there is a regiment in the Russian army called Somalia
The U.S. military says 27 soldiers were killed in the fighting
There were only 18 deaths so whatever you saw was false or you are lying.
the guys were definitely wishing they had some HUNGRY MARINES in Mog that day! The little birds were mowing down hundreds or thousands but they didn’t feel people could stomach it in a movie.
i wonder how many civilians where killed co if anyone knows bakaro ( th are where this happend ) is the most populated market area in mogadishu
Did you ever watch the second part of this video which covers the rest of the battle?
You may have the modern gears and equipments but never underestimate the opposing force ingenuity and will to survive. American military should lower their ego when fighting in war. Things that seems impossible could happen, just like rabbit vs tortoise race.
Don't sleep on them. You snooze, you lose.
Dude u perfectly pulled off the looks of a homeless man if humans lived in the forest.
