New Edition was huge! I was 13 years old when they emerged on the scene. They came out as a very young bubble gum pop kind of music. As they got older they definitely became more R&B. This song was when Johnny Gill (the one you kept asking who is that one) replaced Bobby Brown so he could do his solo career, and they really went to the slow jamz baby making music 😘 They were so smooth and sexy. My favorite R&B male group ever!! I love their t.v. movie The New Edition Story.

This song was and still is the best song on an album full of 'best songs'. I still have the CD today and still play it regularly. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis knocked it out of the park with this album. Johnny Gill carries part of the lead duties with Ralph Tresvant. Listen to the whole "Heartbreak" album from start to finish to find the flow of it and where this song comes in.
Band members: Johnny Gill (replaced Bobby Brown), Ralph Tresvant, Michael Bivens, Ronnie DeVoe and Ricky Bell. The latter three went on to become Bell/Biv/DeVoe.

If you have time you should watch the New Edition Story. I think it’s on TH-cam. I take it you’re young and you’ll learn a lot about New Edition they’ve been at this since 1983. They just did a performance on American Music Awards. Ronnie Devoe, Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill, Mike Bivens, Ralph Tresvant, Ricky Bell. Bobby Brown left the group to do his own thing and came back later but remains part of NE. They were too “bubble gum” for him.
