This video made me think back to WHY I decided to stop relaxing my hair. Hadn't really thought about it, but it was after I broke up with a boyfriend and wanted to cut my hair, as some of us tend to do Lol At that time I think it was a lack of finances thing where I said I want to just cut it but I "dared" to not relax it. And ever since I just never went back to relaxing it! Also made me think about these new terms to things we were doing. For instance after I shampooed and conditioned I would not rinse out all of the conditioner. I'd rinse out maybe 85-90% of it and then go about styling it. Now they actually package it as a "leave-in" Lol Great video again ladies, always a pleasure
Leslie Lebron Great Story. Thank you for sharing part of your journey. 8 know, a lot of us were already doing these things and now they have names for all of our practices that are already in place. So true 🤓🤣💕➰
Carols daughter came out over ten years ago. I remember buying it in Macy’s around 2007 the original ORIGINAL formula . It started in Brooklyn . Shea moisture started years ago in White labeled bottles and it was only three items on the line with Shea butter .
Sheamoisture hair masks I used daily for hair conditioning and grooming. It was my daily routine on soaking wet hair and allowing it to air dry. I did it for about 2 to 2.5 yes straight, wearing my hair natural with curly 3b to 3c ringlets. No heat. My hair grew back longer and healthier. Its so true, 1 day of neglect on your hair )cimbing thru dangles) can set you back! It happened to me. Set back about 8 months to 1 yr!
Thank you for these tips, I really enjoyed this video. All of the tips you both provided will help me on my healthy hair journey. So happy I found yall's channel!
There wants an OG SheaMoisture product that I still have in my cabinet but would never use! I keep it for nostalgia’s sake. It came in a white bottle with red writing and was basically Shea butter lotion. It was amazing and I hate that they walked away from it. It was a life-saver for my postpartum hair issues. 🙌🏾
I remember waay back when on longhaircareforum in 2006! Cowashing was a thing back then with V05, Suave, and DDTA. There were mostly relaxed ladies on there until 2011 when the tides started to change. It's crazy seeing lots of products in Walmart and target. I remember when Soultanicals first opened! Crazy.
I can’t tell you how much of a difference in the bounce and definition of my curls since I stopped cowashing and started shampooing with serious high quality shampoos. What I have learned is these companies say they are sulfate free but then out synthetic surfactants into the shampoos that have the same effect. They have the curl community fooled. By just cowashing you aren’t truly cleaning your strands and they end up with like a film on the strands that you cannot see, but your hair can’t absorb water and other great ingredients... it took a good 2 months of shampooing to get my curls in tip top shape... not only that the skin on our scalp isn’t getting properly cleaned so we get dandruff the itchies.... anyway, Alaffia makes a really nice shampoo... so does twisted sista nourish and shine... Taylor Anne I bet your hair would be the best on TH-cam if you tried this.... not that it’s not beautiful now, but I think it would be out of this world if you started the shampoo diet on your curls....
Great video ladies! Love your candor! I started my hair journey, in part, due to thinning edges and thinning hair overall. Thanks for the reminder about Aphogee. I used to use that years ago with relaxed hair and hadn't thought about it for natural hair. I need to put it back into rotation. I really appreciate your great tips! Would love to see a list of products mentioned. 😊
I love that you've made these videos! Im a recent transitioner (as of November) but I've always admired Taylor's hair at church. You've inspired me to be more careful (I yank the comb in the shower too) and enjoy my hair.
MrsTcea05 That is so awesome. Can you come up to us the next time you see us at Church? We don't recognize your TH-cam name so we are not sure who you are. We're sorry 😊. But we are so glad you are enjoying our videos and hair tips. #staycurly 😊➰
Thank you Soo much for recommending aphogee, I use it every 2 months and it keeps my hair strong even through all my handling it and product junkie ways lol. It's so awesome and I feel like alot of naturals don't know about it that it could be a HUGE help for their hair if it's breaking
Great video! Can you do a hair characteristics video (porosity, density, width)? I have fine high density, high porosity (highlights) hair and we like the same products. By the way, how is your hair styled in this video, TaylorAnne, the looser curls on the bottom look tighter?
123SUTANA Thank you so much for watching our videos. We are just simply women who have hands on experience through our own hair journeys. We feel unqualified to answer such detailed questions because we simply have very little knowledge in these specific areas. However as you probably can gather we are very experienced in the area of products, the best of products and care for natural hair. As far as porosity, density etc. we would feel terrible leading you astray. 😊➰ -LoriAnne (The Mom)
Hi ladies love your videos !! I've been natural off and on for my whole life now relaxer free for 8 years .. in the 90's when I would big chop I used fantasia ic gel and conditioners and I found out about shea butter this is about 2000 2001 and a black sister who used to be on General hospital back in the day she was married to MeshachTaylor .. forget her name well she started making her own shea butter mixture and it was available in the Pasadena California area and I being a product junkie literally all my life had to go and support .. and I bought a couple jars ..but I eventually went back to relaxing off and on ☹️ till about 2009 then that's it had ENOUGH !!! Now A lot of sisters were making their own products right about that time and marketing it on TH-cam and other sites like naturally curly etc ..before the so called movement and their were some products on the market but they weren't really advertised like now and shea moisture actually had products from a long time ago before they became big !!!!! I am a product junkie and I have spent tons of money since HS buying buying. I always had thick long hair from a small child until I burned my hair up coloring relaxing when I entered HS in the 80's and off and on over the years . . I'm still learning ladies and welcome any info ... never too old too learn new things right ..I just wanted to share sorry for long biography Lol ..I just love the spirit and honesty of you ladies and I look forward to each and every video it's a breath of fresh air for me 🙂 I am currently using curls blueberry leave in and the oil and sometimes the twist and shout creme although my hair is too short now to twist and I have the cocoa nibs oil and balm .. I have a lot of Camille Rose products except her new lavender line I like her products a lot ...oh and I love Aussie 3 min miracle .. I used to use As I am slit about 4 yrs ago now after sooo much trial and error I've discover less is best with my hair !!
Miss X Wow! You've been on some journey, but in all honesty your story is what it's all about. It's a lot of trial and error, learning from one another and having confidence during each phase of this journey. Good for you. It's never easy but I give props to us ladies that hang in there through the good and the bad! #staycurly➰➰➰ -LoriAnne ps the fun part is being a product junkie! I am and proud to be 😂😂😂
I can't believe I've never watched this video. So informative. I have got the As I Am co-wash twice already and I like it but I don't find it to have slip and u say Tay. I guess it depends on how healthy your hair is, cuz I can't rectangle with it for the life of me. Hopefully I will get there soon (healthy state). God Bless both of your hair. About to do a deep conditioning now, which I've been really good about doing weekly. I have to practice patience especially when detangling. U ladies have really inspired me to love my hair again, So thanks...love u 2 so much 😊
I began my transition in 2009 and I remember brands like mixed chicks, miss Jessie ,JCS , komaza, Shescentit products , Hairveda products being available to ppl going natural. Also ppl were using Kimmay tubes leave in cond which was extremely popular on the TH-cam circuit. Ppl weren't so crazy with all the hair products and hair typing. Women seemed like they were just enjoying the process of learning how to take care of their hair without a relaxer . Now it's a natural hair movement with all this texture discrimination and curl typing which is ridiculous. My how things have changed since that time. Thanks for sharing your story.
Kelsey T I feel you there! The movement has taken on legs of its own. Some good some bad. The good is that there is lots of variety in product choices. The bad is the texture shaming and the discrimination between the 3's and 4's. This movement has so much potential hopefully one day it will, once again be united as when it first started. As for now I always say "eat the meat and throw away the bones" meaning take away from any situation something beneficial for yourself. Anything else can be tossed. 😂➰➰➰-LoriAnne (The Mom)
M.A.D.CURLS looked at this video again and I notice u say hair grows 1 & 1/2 in monthly. Truth is hair only grows 1/2 in monthly equating to 6 in. a yr.
I’m going through my changes too and my hair sheds like crazy. I’m going to try the Hair Mayonnaise treatment today... I think it’s great that the two of you can collaborate together...
M.A.D.CURLS Thanks! Menopause sucks!! 😂. Any how, I tried the hair mayonnaise yesterday for 15 minutes with no heat just a plastic cap and my hair came out good. Springy curls.. now I’ll look into buying the Jamaican Black Castor Oil.
Yvonne Morales Yes, I tried the hair mayonnaise once. It definitely does work. I swear by Aphogee also. I still consistently do Aphogee EVERY 6 weeks like clockwork and I have zero shedding, now. 😊 Hang in there you are not alone. 👍🏽 keep in touch so I know your progress😃
M.A.D.CURLS will do... I’m too afraid to use Aphogee because it’s suppose to be used by professionals... I know, it’s silly, but products that are supposed to be used by trained stylists scare me... I’m not a professional so I don’t want to screw my hair up any worst.. 😂
Yvonne Morales I don't blame you. I am no trained professional, that's for sure but when I first used it I didn't know that 😂 That was 25 years ago. I was young and Unknowledgeable. But it worked out. Since I've had no problems over the years I'm not too worried about this particular product for myself. Other products I'm definitely cautious about 😊But, it sounds like your on the right track. Thank you for sharing your story.
When Lori has on her glasses you know its serious!!!!

I was thinking the same thing. There are also videos of "naturalistas" beyond 7 years ago. They are different textures though.

Heat trained = heat damaged 😉
This was so informative and insightful, I feel like I leaned so much.

Back then, in black hair magazines, they always talked hair transitioning. Even in the 1990's. You just didn't know about it. 🤗

Can you blow drying your hair in the COLD setting with a diffuser everyday or should that be avoided as well?
my mom's hair is falling out too i'm going to try that aphogee
Maria Zapata definitely try it. I think you'll be pleased with the results.
I really enjoy your videos. If possible could you do a review on a product called Photogenic. I think it's been out since January, 2018. Thanks
