Appreciated your insights on these books. I especially resonate with your mode of discussing books as it mirrors my own-not a “review,” spoilers abound, and excerpts galore!
I felt the same way. I didn't enjoy it half as much as Station Eleven, and was disappointed that the pandemic didn't happen in this timeline. You expressed it so well: the characters were isolated and lonely, even as they interacted with others. It's a very sad, depressing book, and I haven't read another Mandel novel since.
Thank you. It does feel like I need a long break before I read another of hers. Even with the darker subject matter in Station Eleven, I also think I had a more enjoyable time with it.
