I’m not a USC fan but if I was Riley, I would be focusing like 95% of effort and resources on upgrading the trenches on both sides. Elite skill positions means absolutely nothing without an O line.
Lets have some context here. USC's only true losses via the portal are Quinten Joyner, Duce Robinson and Kyron Hudson. The rest are a mixed bag of underwhelming performers and bench warmers plus the usual graduate transfers. I suspect a few were encouraged to seek greener pastures. Zach Branch was subpar this season inspite of the overgenerous playing time given by Riley. He repeatedly signaled fair catches on kick and punt returns even when the nearest opponents were 20+ yards away. He dropped passes and often outmatched physically by opposing defenders. He's basically a track athlete and just doesn't have the hand size or physique to be a top notch WR. His brother Zion Branch is a back-up S when not injured. Mason Murphy was a washout at RT. He couldn't protect Miller and was often outplayed by opponents. Most of the others in the portal aren't indispensible by any stretch of the imagination. Many programs experienced high portal turnovers this year. Arizona, Arkansas and UCF each charted over 20 outgoing transfers. Even playoff bound Arizona State has at least a dozen players in the portal. When the playoffs are done, more players will enter the portal. This now annual exodus is not unique to USC or any other program. It has become a key feature of the CFB ecosystem.

Not worried about the wideouts leaving. WR talent isn’t what separates top programs, it’s the trenches… plus the guys leading haven’t been the most productive or lived up to their ranking thus far. Have a probably better OL coach stepping in and just hopeful we get some of these DT’s to commit.
You need playmakers still. Poor trenches performance is just a weak link. This is like saying you don’t need a good car engine when the tires are flat.

As a solid fan and OU grad, I can tell you LR is doing at USC exactly what he did here in Norman. Have to say this for him, he’s #1 at taking a 5 star recruit and turning him into a 3star faster than any coach I’ve ever seen! LR talks a good game, but cannot produce. He walked into a gold mine here and couldn’t make it happen, just saying. But, best of luck to you guys and I do hope for your sake things turn around soon!

usc just has no momentum right now. Riley blew it by not prioritizing the lines and defense and toughness right before it was going to matter the MOST- going into the big 10. now hes lost so many games no one thinks hes a good coach and it sounds like USC has no NIL game right now. it sounds crazy, but it may be time to start over.
