O-ring is a good option. I have had good success using them for various repairs in the past. I have also had good success using hot glue. Could be used in some compacity here.
I've done something similar with a broken gygor foot. I stuffed some aluminum foil into the hole to prop the part up when I remade the part joint with aves apoxy sculpt. In this case, I'd drill a hole thru the other side for later, then use the foil to prop up the part to glue it in place. After the glue is dried I'd push the foil out with a tool using the hole from earlier.
