Started basic lessons at 8 yrs old and took them inconsistently until I was about 12 or 13. Played some in high school but not much and didn't have time in college. I picked it up again at about six years ago.
What a great cover of a great song. You sound is amazing and thanks for showing us. Thanks to you we're covering Where The Streets Have No Name but it looks like we'll be doing this one too. Now I need find a Fernandes sustainer set...
@AidanandLucas: You might not have seen the full title or description. This version is using a '64 Vox. You can compare Part 1 with the Axe-Fx to Part 2 with the real amp.
@tomiclav Also setting a delay like a DD-7 for the "modulate" setting works, as that's essentially what the Edge does - he's a huge user of modulated delays!
Thx! That's a lot of questions. See the U2GT website and forum. Everything is done with Fractal Audio's Axe-Fx II. I record direct from Axe-Fx then out digital SPIDF into an RME Fireface UC which connects to a SignVideo XLR-Pro mixer attached to the mic input of my Canon Vixia HFS10 camcorder.
@guitarforlif: I haven't used it too much, but it seems pretty good. HD500 is great for the money. You need to spend time with the parameters to get the shimmer right, but it can do a good job.
@romeobravo78: Thx Ron. You're correct, I don't use the Tremelo enough. Haven't developed the right feel yet. Thx for the nudge. I need to go back and listen to Zoo TV. Thx!
The person who made the BT probably used a different tempo from a different live version of the song. It's the order and/or length of the BT that makes it an R&H version.
@tomiclav : Do you mean the sustainer at the beginning? I didn't use any shimmer in this song. The sustainer is a Fernandes and it's installed in the neck position of the guitar.
Yes, the sustainer works as a neck pup but not when it's being used as a driver for the sustainer. It seems to sound ok, although I don't think it's as good as a high quality pup. Most won't notice the difference. And thx!
You really nailed it! You've really mastered the U2 sound... :D Oh, and thank you for Arcade Fire's Wake Up song intro (I'm from Montreal, so I do have a sweet spot for that band). :)
@U2GuitarTutorials No, no I get the sustainer, but i was wondering about shimmer effect....found out how to get one, line 6 verbzilla (octo setting)......but tnx 4 the answer anyway! :)
Thank you so much,this has really helped me,you explain things so well. If you have the time could you please tell me where you got the backing track. Keep up the good work.
@@U2GuitarTutorials that's cool...sounds very plausible, so you had me fooled! Also props on your channel, which even after many years seems THE place for U2 stuff. I just discovered after seeing them in Vegas and deciding to noodle around with a few songs. Cheers
Thank you for all of your hard work and willingness to share - you have nailed Edge's tone and playing - from the Hardim pick to the pick-ups (Fernandez Sustainor) to the Vox Amp to the delays/shimmer. The tone on your videos is amazing, would you please also share what mic you used? pre-amp? converter? recording daw? computer? video camera? video software for the ballon wording? U2 tracks? Lastly, if you have some time, please own "11 O'clock Tick Tock" live CO Red Rocks ('84), thanks again!
for those of us who don't have the ax-fx ultra - is there an effects processor or unit that can produce the parallel shimmer effect? and the other effects as well? Thanks!
Fender Custom Shop "Frankenstrat." Had my guitar tech assemble it from parts I purchased on eBay and from dealers. Had Fernandes sustainer installed with Seymour Duncan Hot Rails (like in the Fernandes guitar that Edge uses).

Just wanted to say your doing a brilliant job with these tutorials,keep the good work up and many thanks.

your best video at all!! you are a master
I really don't remember but likely added up to the price of a Custom Shop strat. Only two Hotrails. The neck pup is the sustainer driver.

Thanks so much for this great info! If you ever have some time - I'd luv to see you do 11 O'Clock Tick Tock live from RedRocks (1984)!!!
perfect sound!! same chords as in here without you by 3 doors down...
Love it.

@TheSmellyClamato: I use the multi-delay block into a low pass filter into a reverb block in parallel in the Axe-Fx Ultra.
Awesome man! got a sustainer for my Strat, still need to install it 😞

Cool, I've gotta get me one of those I'd take one any day over a les paul

Yes, I think it was half step down. You can just play one of the same chords and match it up. I should have mentioned it in the tutorials.
Incredible!
Edge 2.0
Your intro sounds just like 'The Sutherland Brothers' - 'Arms Of Mary'
Enjoying your Edge guitar work,
Cheers

+Josee M Thank you! So kind of you!
@master4231:
I think it's R&H if I recall correctly.

Vintage amps like this go for $2500 to $4500 depending on condition. You can check them out on eBay.
wow beatufull... :D

Maryannmay h
@LocrianGuy tnx, man!
Correct
Good job! During the 2nd part after sustainer, do you use bridge PU alone or combinated with middle PU?
Michael - Use your into as the intro in all your covers and lessons..it;s pretty good
That guitar has an incredible tone, how much did the guitar cost you with the sustainer and the three Seymour Duncan hotrails?
What do you think of the octo reverb on the pod hd500 for shimmer?
Can you play through the neck pup without using the sustainer, and does it have a nice tone? BTW that is one great guitar
Anyone know where there's a recorded version of the arpeggiated pre-intro? Not finding it on any of their live albums...thanks
I made that all up for fun. It's not part of the original recording.
@@U2GuitarTutorials that's cool...sounds very plausible, so you had me fooled! Also props on your channel, which even after many years seems THE place for U2 stuff. I just discovered after seeing them in Vegas and deciding to noodle around with a few songs. Cheers
@AidanandLucas: See Part 3. Fernandes.

is there a setting on the line6 m13 for that sustain?
what's that shimmering effect called? and is it avaliable as a stompbox?
that's the top boost channel right?
for those of us who don't have the ax-fx ultra - is there an effects processor or unit that can produce the parallel shimmer effect? and the other effects as well? Thanks!
Mo Hazan octo reverb
Mo Hazan pod hd500 and line 6 m13
KORG SDD3000 pedal does all this and its perfect for "The Edge" stuff because he uses it!
Did me post upload? Test
@tomiclav : oh, ok, sorry.
How are you doing the long notes?
Sustainer pickup in bridge position. Search for Fernandes sustainer.
This is amazing, even by your standards, hopefully Edge is taking notes carefully.
Great playing, what kind of strat is that?
Fender Custom Shop "Frankenstrat." Had my guitar tech assemble it from parts I purchased on eBay and from dealers. Had Fernandes sustainer installed with Seymour Duncan Hot Rails (like in the Fernandes guitar that Edge uses).
So is that a Hotrail neck set in the middle location?
+burienite Hotrails in the bridge and middle position. Sustainer in the neck. This song is on the bridge pup.
When did you start learning guitar?
:DDDDD Can you give me the tabs? Please!
@jcabani59:
Keyboard? Sorry, not following you.
お元気ですか?
werd ich nich akzepieren, zu viel cover.
