Especially that in-game, contact with the fire costs Sonic up to 8 rings per second, meaning even triple-digit ring counts only delay death if he stays in there, and not even for 10 seconds. I also tried this with Super Sonic and it's worse with Super Sonic's already-existing ring drain of a ring per second, meaning Sonic would lose 9 rings per second and still die in the flames. If anything, Sonic is better off in base form in this situation.
