This song that Joni wrote is pure genius. Distills the spirit of the time and place beautifully. James did it honor. Background vocals added a nice touch of soul.
Incredible, and when Seal complements The lyric " shotgun in the sky' its Magic!!! Unadulterated Beauty between these 2 Amazing men with 2 great respective Voices amongst James great guitar playing ,I must digress, because I can go on and on like what a Killer Band too!!! Peacefully yours J C
Wasn't that an amazing effort? He could have easily overpowered James' soft sound, his restraint is incredible as a fan of both (Seal's music is simply part of my childhood DNA).
I can and do, listen to this Epic version with my 3 parrots and they all are quelled, released and soothed while in lock down, thank you both James and Seal ,of course TH-cam as well, without TH-cam I would be a very sad man with 3 sad babies! Xx love and respect
The first time I heard James Taylor sing this song was on May 21, 1997, live in studio on The Howard Stern Radio Show. Just him, his guitar, and a little echo effect. It's easy enough to find here on TH-cam, and well worth the search. "Phenomenal" is not overstating it.
James and Seal both stole the show with there version of woodstock the originality of their perfomance was like i was hearing it for the first time just as i did back in the day James for using Jonis original guitar tunings and seal for the soul in his backing voice plus being backed by a killer band 😎
Can't really put into words what it's like to see James play this song. Mythical, I guess...remembering a time that is like a faded color photograph today, yet still shines. 1:54 Ah...there's the words: it's the expression after James says "get back to the garden". Put that into words 🙂 Oh and don't forget the legendary Seal trying to inject his singular voice so carefully. That's the kind of talent Joni's music attracts almost casually.
great artist....but you can`t sing Joni Mitchell...nobody can...nice cause and benefit to Joni...no one can sing Janis Joplin and no one can emulate Joni Mitchell from Saskatoon Saskatchewan Canada....
The horn player’s intro is a nearly note for note homage to Joni’s vocalization at the end of the studio version. Beautiful tribute.
How has James kept that same, sweet, youthful voice? He's miraculous!

Wonderful emotive rendition. During that tribute JT had had a miss with "River" (if that's possible) but he nailed it in this one.
Someone should sign this young punk James Taylor, I see potential, let me ring Paul McCartney on the tellie
Wow!
2 folks haven't any hearing it seems, to have disliked this ,is just tone deafness
It's still all true.

What, Seal couldn't sing a couple of verses??
