I am French and I have several answers why France is the most visited country on Earth.
    1. The historic monuments (history is litteraly everywhere in France. You can visit castles, old city centers, important places like Normandy's landing...)
    2. The ski tourism
    3. The beach tourism (a lot of northern europeans come in France to benefit of the sun, especially in the Mediterranean bay)
    4. The cultural events (we have a lot of associations and museum which organize festivals often globally popular like Cannes festival. Personnaly, I am a fan of La Machine, an association based in Nantes which make big robots well animated. 😉 )
    5. The nature (we have many natural parks with their own biodiversity. It's a good trick for hiking).
    6. The health tourism (we have too balnear sources and other places where people can cure themselves)
    7. The diplomatic and business power of France (international organizations and entreprise needs to travel abroad most of time. As we have several headquarters (UNESCO, Interpol, FIFA...), they're attracting many peoples)
    8. The gastronomy (Need I to explain? 😁)
    9. The transports, especially trains.
When you arrive in an airport in France, it's easy to move to another place thanks to the train and to the bus. If needed, it's possible to do carpooling with applications like Blablacar.
So, when you arrive in France, you can easily visit the rest of the country.
    10. Basically, the geographic position. We are at the intersection of West Europe, so logically, we are crossed by many travellers who want to travel abroad, even if their final destination is not France.
Thank you for your work. It's very detailled and it's always a pleasure to see its country from an outside point of view. ^^

France is the most diverse European country. Diversity in landscapes, cuisines, cultures, populations and climate. When it comes to Europe, many countries are beautiful and worth visiting but if someone has no choice but to visit one and only one European country then France is the way to go.

    Hi !
    Bonjour !
I live in one the French overseas regions mentionned in the video, Martinique.
And as such, I thought that I could, perhaps, add a few things that could be interesting.
    - Geographically, the island of Martinique is relatively small.(1 128 km² and around 64 km long.)
However, it is very lush and filled with many beaches as well.
In terms of fauna, it is notable for a remarkable concentration of hummingbirds (Colibri in French), which are often used as a symbol of the Island.
As for it's proximity to other countries, from Martinique, the island-country of St.Lucia can be seen and, on really sunny days, you can even see the island-country of Dominica (not the same as the Dominican republic, btw 🇩🇲/🇩🇴), just behind St-Lucia.(🇱🇨)
It should be noted that, despite being French, the Island isn't included in the E.U's Schengen area, which allows European citizens to travel freely, without passport or other border checks between the E.U's internal borders.
That's also the case for all of France's oversea territories as well.
    - Culturally, the majority of the island's population is comprised of descendants of black slaves. In fact, one the bigger cities here, Schoelcher, is named after Victor Schoelcher, who is often recognized as the man responsible for the abolishment of slavery in France in 1848.(For good this time, since it has been abolished earlier in 1794 but Napoleon I reinstated it in 1802.)
So slavery is a touchy subject here, especially given that the descendants of white colonists (Béké as they're called here.) from way back then, are still, today among the island's richest citizens.
    - Economically, it is one of France's poorest territories (when compared to other French territories, it's still above the economic standards of it's area.).
As of 2020, it was among the three poorest ones in fact along with Réunion and Corsica.
Though, it is still the second richest island of the "lesser Antilles", with a GDP of around 9 billion USD.
One it's main products is Rum which is mainly exported towards, mainly metropolitan France and from there, the rest of Europe and, to a lesser extent, North America.
    - If you ever visit, I would recommend the Garden of Balata, on the heights of Fort-De-France, Martinique's capital city.
It's a great place to see the variety of the island's flora.
But there's also other places of interest like : The town of St-Pierre which was devastated by a volcanic eruption In 1902, one of the most devastating of the 20th century, claiming the lives of 30 000 people and left only 2 survivors, one of whom was in his prison cell at the time ; The town of Le Diamant (The Diamond), which has a giant rock in the shape of, you guessed it, a diamond 💎, and that rock was also a vessel of the British Navy at some point, seriously, they even named it "H.M.S Diamond Rock." and put cannons on top of it.
    And that's about it.
I just wanted to add some information about one the French oversea territories, since they're often really forgotten about in discussions regarding France.(Even in Metropolitan France itself.)
But the value of these territories shouldn't be underestimated, not only from an economic standpoint (Granted, still not as comparable as Metropolitan France but often, still above the surrounding foreign territories) but more importantly, from a strategic standpoint given that they're the reason why France has the largest ZEE in the World.
If you've read that far, I hope you learned something of value.
    Au revoir ! 🇫🇷

I’m french and I know how lucky I was to born in such a country. Previous comments widely explained why France remains one of the more attractive country to visit. I lived for 30 years in Paris then left to the Alps and finally came to the Atlantic Ocean in Loire Atlantic. I don’t really understand the french peoples they don’t like France. Maybe it’s simply because they don’t know it and its diversity of landscapes and choices of living. Or maybe some of them like wilde wide areas we don’t really have but in French Guyane and Réunion. France is rich of a multilingual and multi origin Culture and even today, diversity is part of France IMHO.

Super quality video, I loved it. A few comments though:
    - there is another main river that should be drawn: the Rhin, at the border with Germany. It has a tremendous historical legacy and is a major piece of the energy infrastructure with "run-of-the-river" dams.
    - a likely explanation of the tourism attractivity is due to the central position of France: many people come to France and then go elsewhere (after visiting or not), or must travel through France to reach Iberian peninsula from all other countries of Europe and symmetrically.
    Thanks for your quality content!

I'll add that, as many comments suggest, it's actually so funny how people like to joke on us, because we're known to be proud and somewhat susceptible (which is mainly true, not gonna lie ^^), but there's a famous saying in French: "qui aime bien, châtie bien", which could be roughly translated as "you love as much as you tease". Also, in Latin and in Anciend, aswell as in modern Greek exists word Galia, which means France. It is same in name of language.

Thank you, just on point is that french is not made firstly from Gaulish. Gaul was populated by some celtic speaking peoples, who spoke totally different languages from french. These languages have been totally extincted. Also there had been other non celtic peoples, ligurians, greeks on the mediterranean shores, vasconic peoples in the south west... and before the celts invaded, the whole of « gaul » was speaking non celtic languages which we have unfortunally no traces now. The Basque language is the only remaining of the languages that existed before the conquest of much of the lands by the celts from central Europe.

    Very good video 👍
I am French and I live in the city of Tours in the Centre Val de Loire.
I think that France is the most visited country in the world for several reasons. The first one is that already there are several forms of tourism (cultural tourism, seaside tourism, mountain tourism, green tourism and entertainment tourism), and in these 5 tourism, France excels.
    Cultural tourism :
-Paris with its monuments and architecture.
-The numerous castles, villages and other monuments throughout France.
(For example as I said I live in Tours in the Centre Val de Loire which is a region known for having a lot of beautiful castles, the Loire Castles).
    Seaside tourism :
-the beaches in the south of France are very popular especially with German and English tourists but also with the French themselves.
-But there are also the Atlantic, Breton and Norman beaches which are mostly visited by French people.
    Mountain tourism :
-the Alps Mountains are very popular with tourists again English and German during the winter periods.
    Green tourism :
-France has a lot of forest and national parks that attract many people who want to get closer to nature.
-France has many beautiful and diverse landscapes.
    Amusement tourism:
-France has a lot of amusement parks, including the most famous Disneyland Paris, which is visited by many tourists, both French and foreign.
-France also has other important parks such as the Asterix park, the Futuroscope, the Puy-du-Fou, the Aix-en-Provence park, etc.
I think that it is the accumulation of all these forms of tourism that make France the most visited country in the world.

I'm french, but I just want to add a little fact about the TGV, and more specifically one of it's line, the one going to the east (brown on the map at 9:50)
What is today known as Lorraine as for quite some time been divided around two cities, Nancy and Metz, their rivalities dating back to the Duchy of Lorraine and the tree bishopric (everything could cause a war declaration, a war even happened over a basket of apple the "guerre de la hottée de pommes"). Metz grew more than Nancy until the franco-prussian war of 1870 resulting in the annexation of Moselle (where Metz is located) which made Nancy the new capital of Region and the new home of most alsacian and mosellan that didn't want to live under german rule (which also made of Nancy a city capable of culturally competing with Paris).
Nowadays both cities are similarly sized and the rivality is as strong as ever, as such a lot of infrastructures are placed in the middle, as it will help one over the other, and this is why the TGV station of lorraine ("la gare lorraine TGV") is located is an extremly unpopulated area (it take close to 30 minutes to get to it from both towns)

So, as we learn in geography lessons here, and though history and culture make it very attractive, the key for our country is its central position between northern and southern Europe .

France’s population is currently around 68 million inhabitants, not 65 million as was mentioned in this video. Also another error he made was about the actual size of France in terms of Geography.
France has about 640,000 KM2 and is second largest economy in Europe after Germany. France is also has the most powerful military in Europe after Russia.

I a foreigner who is planning to come to France is reading my comment, don't hesitate to visit other major cities like Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse or Nice! You'll like it for sure 😉

Nice Video ! As a French living in the South Est of France i think the main tourist attractions are obviously Paris, for the effeil tower, l'Arc de Thriomhpe etc.. But in the SE is most likely the beach, and sometimes the Pays Catalan, is a part of France where the Ispanic cultule as we know of Espagna : Corrida, Bodega(
an event often in summer where it basically consists of drinking until you are in a daze) and Les Arene de Nimes( not realy in the catalan region) are realy nice to visit, maybe not in summer like this one but late september is good, nice weather not to hot but not to cold either

As a French person, I believe what makes France the most visited country in the world is the fact that wou can find a lot of types of tourism: of course, the cultural aspect is very important, you can easily spend a week in Paris just to see the most iconic monuments, but there are also La côte d'Azur ( the mediteranien coast), the Alpes and Pyrénées that bring a lot of tourists, especially European ones. For example, when I'm on holidays and I go skiing, I hear German, English, Belgian people, even if they spend hours in their car to go there

Saying France is the most visited country in the world may be a bit of a fraud : it is said the figure includes tourists from Northern Europe driving through to holiday in Spain or Italy... and back!
By the way, "Garonne" takes only one "r" (French people are notoriously finicky about spelling!)
Fun fact : the French president is also a prince! The princedom of Andorra is historically shared between the French ruler and the bishop of Burgos in Spain.
As a linguist, you could also have mentioned catalan as one of the romance languages spoken in France.
    Great job though!

The language was born from the mix of the french and african languages as a mean of understanding between the slave and the settlers. And is different in each island, because of first the origin of the slaves and second because of the distance that separate them.
Today Creole refer to a language as much as a culture or an ethnic group.

There are also many attracting spots like beaches (ocean and sea) , mountain (ski), volcanos, ... French regions are very different from one to another so you feel like you are in a completely different country when you travel from one region to another. Asia : Domaine national français en Terre Sainte
Antarctic : Archipel des Kerguelen ; Archipel des Crozet ; Saint-Paul-et-Amsterdam ; Terre Adélie

    • @GEOfocusChannel
      @GEOfocusChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

That’s valid, but claims to Antarctica aren’t internationally recognized, so they’re debatable.
And the sites in the Holy Land are debatable. I think it’s more accurate to say that France owns the property, but doesn’t have jurisdiction over the territory. Calling them national domains is more symbolic.

I knew about the overseas territories (or rather "colonies" as the non-French call them), because they are on the Euro bills! One minor nitpick: in Alsace-Lorraine they don't speak "a Germanic language" but a German dialect. I don't know how intelligible it is with standard German, because even though I've visited, everybody just spoke French with me. The region was very contested between Germany and France between 1871 and 1945 and changed hands a lot of times, but Germany does not claim it anymore. The changes after WW2 turning to German-French friendship are rather amazing, it's rare to see such cases of reconciliation in history.

I m French, and according to me, if my country is the most visited country in the world, it is because this is a perfect country for tourism. There is so much very different landscapes, a big culture, a well balanced climate, you can make everything in term of activities (ski and jetski in the same week). You have so much historical and attractive monuments to visits (Tour Eiffel, Arc de Triomphe, Prehistorical caves, Museums, well knowns restaurants, cities, castles, moutain villages, campains).
In addition to that, this is a rich and peaceful country, it’s not dangerous (some thieves in Paris but except of this, no real danger). And the last thing, is that in France, there is lot of cultures different. French culture but also arabic culture, asian culture, african culture, italian culture ect...
And last but not least, in every region, you can discover a new part of French culture. In East, in mountains, ou will find cheeses, strong alcohols, raclette, ski..., in North, you will find the .. North french culture, and the ”Chtis”’who are really different of South french people. In south, at Marseille for example, that will be clearly more ”exotic”, a different accent, beach, sun with hight temperature, boats sweeter alcohols, fishs ...
In the the West, you will find the ”Bretagne” culture, with a different food, a lot of alcohol, a lot of fish, and ”crêpes” (very good food from Bretagne), a different accent to, beachs and cliffs
And in the middle, campain, long green spaces, a really good meat, a lot of fruits and vegetables, good alcohol, a lot of farmers and fields.
    (Sorry for my english speaking)

There's no country like France anyhwere in the world. As you travel around France you see that most of Europe's major cultures share a border with the country. Brittany and its links to Britain, the Nord and French Flanders with its similarities (linguistic, cultural and architectural) with the Dutch, Alsace-Lorraine and its resemblance to Germany, the Apls and its similarity to Switzerland, Alpes-Cote d'Azur with Italy and the Basque country and its strong ties and resemblance to Spain. Well, as a French, who lived in the north part of the France, more precisely, the Picardie Region ( Yes you must understand that Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardie ARE NOT the same cringe region, it was a bad idea to unified us into 1 region, even if we are totally different),more precisely the Somme department ( that all of you knows because of WW1, and i personnaly found, even more than 100 years later, a loot of artifact dated of the WWI like shells, bullets, helmets, etc ), i think that France is the most visited country of the world because of us culture yes, but also because of us History, i must repeat that France have the most largest battle count in the world, and the most biger Winrate of this sames battle. I must also said that it's because we have conquered litteraly the world, and even today, we can see that our influence stay in this ex conquered areas. We have colonized most of the actual USA, they fertiles Land of Canada, conquered and democratised Europe, colonized a big part of north Africa, have put a feet in Asia with the Indochina colony, etc. Everywhere we were, everywhere we stay, but nowhere we go for the futur. Because i will conclude my commentary in this fact, that maybe will answer to certain people why France will die, it is because of a massive immigration, that we cannot turn into French people because they won't be French, and also because we don't want, by us self, be French, because of a long, slow but sure, death of the Fench culture because of this same immigration, who imported peoples in France, who dont want to become French, and be assimilated. So, in final, you accept a conflict between cultures in your own country and also because of demographic much more stong for them, than the original french natives, and then be replaced by this sames new arrived ones peoples...Thats why, you all, are spectator, of the death, of a Old giant who litteraly make this world...with more than 2500 years of History...
