KOM Rider was assisted by other bicycle riders, no ebikes, car drafting, or other shenanigans. I see no issues with riding as a group through this type of segment, especially considering most of the leaderboard are riders in a group. Fun video. A bit sketchball with other riders and cars, but definitely fun.
That's what responsible cyclists do. In my city (Toronto), there are now a lot of idiots on e-bikes just flying by people and not giving them heads up. Almost collided with one.
Whenever I tell people On Your Left/Right, 80% of the time I'm given a thumbs up, thank you, or some form of appreciation. It irks the crap out of me when other cyclists close pass me silently. Ive come close to inadvertently taking out a few guys who don't say shit when passing.
Ej, you’re a W man. I recently had to quit college baseball due to a shoulder injury, and you have inspired me to pick up a new hobby. Just ordered myself a road bike, some gear, and i’m absolutely ready to go!
Great vid, and congrats on the KOM! I used to work in D.C. for many years, and I can attest that those noon rides, which locals call the "Hour of Power", are absolutely brutal. Even sitting in the group it's almost impossible to not get dropped unless you are ultra fit, which I am definitely not. It's good to see the younger generation raising the bar!
Since everyone is clearly doing it, I think it's totally fine to work together! Full beast mode on that. Well done to all involved. Pretty sure the previous KOM was Jonah not Johan.
first, excellent video EJ. Your channel is killing it now with your creative juices flowing and your ability to mix it up with really cool people. That was blazing fast . Frankie killed it! you all did. Congratulations
EJ, love the joy and fun you bring to our sport. Frankie, 🤯! What a legit effort! Most of the people at the top of the leaderboards were likely in a group of 10-20 people the whole way around. So this is epic. Those power numbers………. Wow
Johan, Jonah, whatever it takes, lol. (Can't diss to hard, I'm dyslexic too!) As for KOM's - as long as it's not a car or ebike or motorpacing, I'm kuulwiddit. Hell, one of my KOM's over the years might be said to have been [partly] due to an accommodating gust of wind! And TT bikes and aero gear are completely legit. Congrats to King Frankie!
Hains Pt and Fiesta Island in San Diego are the only 2 places where I've spun out a 53x12 and was wishing for a bigger ring. That tailwind is nice, aint it?!
Most KOMs near me are group effort. There is a running KOM on one of my favorite routes reportedly set by a person on one of those elliptical bikes, apparently Strava can’t detect that. Or Kipchoge and his posse made an appearance without Nike’s normal publicity blitz…😮
It's definitely not against the rules. The logistics involved means most segments aren't going to be TTT KOMs so there's plenty out there for us solo riders, IMO. I'm not worried about it. Plenty of KOMs happen on fast group rides that aren't explicit TTT.
Exactly like the rider said, he was doing low watts at the beginning, and your true power ability is hard if not impossible to achieve in aero. 33+ on flat is so much about position. Nice ride man.
@@veganpottertheveganit’s not unusual to get up 30 mph all by yourself with a tail wind like what they just showed. Group rides regularly roll at mph there. Sorry, but you’re not going to change that.
@jacoba5048 I was a cat 1 with an Olympic qualifying time in the pursuit before it was removed for London so I have no issue going fast. Nice try though. That doesn't excuse riding this fast here.
If the current KOM holder used a team for the KOM, then it's absolutely fair game! But on the flip side, if the KOM holder did it solo, let's respect that, and keep it honest, otherwise it just gets pointless.
All of the other times were set on the noon ride or the Thursday night ride- those time were from the break of the group, and that means that they also turned back into the loop after the gate, and had to use the chicane at the start. Very cool effort, but not the same at all.
I’m 50/50 on it. Yea the Strava rules only really specify no motor pacing or ebikes. But you guys are passing all the cars so motor pacing at speed limit would have likely been slower than this pace. However, even holding a wheel at this pace is impressive. It’s a nasty effort. You can’t take away the effort. Personally I think Strava will inevitably have to start to differentiate between team efforts like this and solo because this is becoming more and more of a thing. Either way, great work guys 🔥
Personally, working as a team is fine, like some mentioned before, there was no car drafting, ebike used so fair game. However I do think that Strava needs to reset KOM/QOM if that individual makes no attempts at the segment after 2 years. What’s the fun in being the king if you don’t actively defend the throne?

How is this a KOM with 0% grade 😂
8:40 Huge props to frankie for alerting the rider ahead of him, so many guys I know would have just tried to squeeze past without a second thought 😬
We wanted to be as safe as possible so even though it may seem annoying to scream it’s definitely the right thing to do! I’m glad you agree 😄

I’m so sorry about the injury but onto the next chapter. Can’t wait until you chase your first Strava KOM. It’s good fun! 😝
What bike did you get!?

ended up finding a used 2019 giant tcr advanced sl for a price i could not refuse.

I’m so sorry Jonah 😂 that’s my bad on the mispronunciation of the name! I’m glad you agree it’s fine to work together makes it really fun!
Massive pull EJ. Definitely did more than your fair share! Frankie just ripped it. Wow. And yes, group KOMs are totally fine - you're still working.
That Homura sticker gave him the boost he needed for sure!

Thank you so much for the kind words!
well done video and effort!! ill bring a 6pk next time i hit Westy's in arlington..cheers Frank awesome job!!
I ride in the NOVA/DC area, so if i see y'all filming I'll say hi lol. Happy riding!
Jonah is now a pro racing in Europe. He's MUCH faster now than when he that KOM was set.
Great MPH on that last effort. 👍🏾
Coming after the dude's KOM and calling him Johan??? 💀💀💀
This sick, nice effort guys!
Great seeing you out there!

That tailwind is nice, aint it?!
It’s AWESOME!
Holy balls. I hope he does track pursuiting too!!!
Johan, I think it's Jonah EJ🤣 but you guys are beasts!
All my best times on segments are set with a tailwind or with friends, just like everybody elses

I bet some tool flags this. Great work! Totally acceptable.
I think you swapped the h and n in Jonah lol
That was great! 👏👏💪 Nice wheels 🛞🛞👍
surprised you aren't complaining about the 30 mm wheels like you normally do
@@RylHango don't get me started 😂🤣😆
Not an EJ without the nevertheless in the intro, very nice ride :)
Nevertheless 😈
I spy the Squadra Coppi jersey in the room there
That was awesome!
There are variables like wind. On flat KOM’s there’s nothing stopping this, TT bikes, etc. Climbs obviously limit the advantages.
What an incredible ride!
Isn’t it Jonah and not pronounced Johan??
Shoot I’m so sorry Jonah if it’s pronounced that way. Idk why I had Johan in my head!
hey ej whats ur thoughts on using a car as ur leadout?
take a sprinter and build a bouble on the back for ultimate slip stream
Speed limit is 15mph there🤣
Dang nice bike bag, which one is that ?
It makes great content, so keep doing it 💪
Deal 🤝
All that heavy breathing had my heart rate increasing too
Yeah me too. Instantly back in the actively sprinting mindset.

What’s crazy is that pro TT specialists will do 30 watts more than that for nearly an hour 🤯
isn't 442W for 4:30 kinda bad for someone with an FTP of 410?
I lose a bit of my power in the aero position, which i was for 2ish minutes, and i was coasting on and off sometimes in the draft
Exactly like the rider said, he was doing low watts at the beginning, and your true power ability is hard if not impossible to achieve in aero. 33+ on flat is so much about position. Nice ride man.
I've ridden there plenty. Nobody should be riding this fast there🤦

gotta ask is the Polygon a "Helos" or "Helios" ?
Both 🤪
Up next - fastest Hains Point century??
🤮

Right siiiiiidee!!!
Frankie reminds me of Jon Heder

FRANK sure is a Homura enjoyer.... He probably enjoyed Madoka Majica hahahahahahahaha..
Those were some really long meters 😅
Who cares, you guys look like youre having big fun!!
Amazing
Who is johan
Drink every time EJ says Johan instead of the guys actual name, which isJonah.

100% strava legal. Just not ebike/car assisted attempts
If the national champ says it’s okay I’ll take it! 🇺🇸
EJ, get your elbows in. CdA improvement for free!
I know! It’s cause this new stem is shorter. I cracked my one piece bars so waiting on the new ones to come in!

enough of the dramatic intros ON EVERY VIDEO
