Glad you like them! Like the other comments says, they're from Mamamoo and Purple Kiss company, so live vocals are incredible (today they started promoting this song in music shows and all their mics are 10000000% on, even Seoho singing backwards). The members participated in lyrics, composition and choreography since predebut! And like Mamamoo, they have an amazing range of concepts and music genres, so every comeback is very different to the previous one! I recommend: Black Mirror, Luna, To be or not to be, Valkyrie (debut), Same Scent Thriller (MJ's cover) have a performance video if you want to check out! Enjoy!!!
And You need to know that 2021 was a wild year because how on earth they released 3 songs that are SO SO SO different in every aspect: No Diggity, Black Mirror and Luna. Is insane. The range is AMAZING ;)
Oh my gosh oneus. Yayyyy. I love them. The second one to sing is hwanwoong he is my bias. Along with the guy who had long extensions in his hair in the beginning his name is xion and the maknae he has a twin in the k-band onewe. Who is in the same company as them. If you like beautiful sounding and lovely lyrics. Definitely give onewe a try. You mentioned thriller. They actually covered the song thriller. They also have a song called black mirror which is like a tribute to Michael Jackson. There is a song before black mirror called no diggity. Definitely do not diggity first then react to black mirror :) oneus never disappoints. And they are huge monsta x fans. And for me onenus and ateez are the two for me are like the kings of performance and theatrics and bringing the drama out. Ateez does amazing live. But for me oneus does it with the music videos, storylines (yes they have a storyline) and also performance. They go all out.
oooh! interesting, I have also heard of ONEWE and wondered if they had some connection, I have been meaning to do both of these groups to be honest. oh! they covered Thriller? that is crazy! honestly, I think its crazy at how much Michael Jackson has been such a force inside of KPop, I think almost every group has some sort of tribute or mention of
@ yesh exactly. They all love kpop. And I agree. Even Taemin of shinee has the title the Michel Jackson of Korea. And jooheon from monsta x loves him also. MJ has such an influence. And yes onewe ane oneus do have a connection. They are a brother group not only because of similar name and from same company but each has one each of a twin. Onewe has one of the twins and oneus has the other twin. They both are great. And oneus love monsta x. Specially minhyuk because I think when he was doing his broadcasting him and oneus and seen each other and ran in to each other a lot in there rookie year. But yeah they did thriller and did it justice lol. And they also have black mirror which is like a tribute and the song no diggity right before black mirror.
its interesting too because like for me, MJ has been popular everywhere around me, I was never a deep listener of MJ, that has been actually one of the more jarring things for me, because he is kind of everywhere in KPop, and I have always maintained a I don't really super cared for his stuff
@ I’m the same way. I was a casual listener. I do know his stuff and I like his stuff I just never really listened to it over and over again. I’m a huge Beatles fan always have been. MJ was amazing in the music industry and he deserved his title as king of pop and influencing so much. I just for me he wasn’t that big for me.
Ha! I can comment before even listening. This is why I went AWOL mid Loona OWC. One of the most pivotal moments for me in kpop was watching Kingdom Legendary War which brought me BTOB, Stray Kids, Ateez, The Boyz, IKON and SF9. The precursor to Kingdom is Road to Kingdom and somehow I missed the fact that last fall Road to Kingdom had a second season hosted by Taemin no less! Like what hole was I stuck in that I missed that? Oh yeah, Seventeen and Monsta X. 💀 So I dropped everything and caught my ass up on the entire season. Road to Kingdom is a competition between slightly lesser known but still well established groups and the winning group gets to go on to compete in Kingdom, which is another competition but the other groups competing will be more well known, I think the criteria for Kingdom is the group has to have charted at number 1 in the last year on M Countdown. I believe season 2 of Kingdom will happen closer to the summer. Can't wait to see what groups will be competing. Could be the likes of TXT and Enhypen if they were interested in competing. There's some debate about whether the big three companies would deign to send a group to compete. Anyway ONEUS was one of the groups from the recent season of Road to Kingdom and this song came from there. I will not spoil anything for you in case you watch but for me, this group stood out the most among all the groups who were all really, really good. And Hwanwoong in particular was just the star of the whole thing. A born performer. Two weeks ago I was like you and had only heard of them so now I am excited to get to know them better because they impressed for sure.
Hwanwoong is my bias. Along with xion (who has a twin brother in the band onewe) I read your comment and I don’t think you has said this but wanted to make sure you knew the one that Taemin hosted that oneus was in that was the second time they did the show. I really wish monsta x would do it. I think if I remember right they had the opportunity to do and was asked but for some reason it was turned down. Oneus is amazing. Definitely keep going into your journey.
@@jessicaglass Oh that's right they did say on the show that they had been on the first season. I actually haven't watched season 1 of Road to Kingdom but I have seen some of the stages mostly The Boyz. I plan on watching the whole thing soon. Kingdom I've watched at least three times lol, it would be amazing if Monsta X did it. Hwanwoong is great, we'll see if he remains my bias once I get to know the whole group. I usually stick with my first impression but a few groups give me a hard time. For the life of me I can't pick one between Kihyun, I.M, Shownu and Hyungwon. That's cool about the twins in Oneus and Onewe. I think I had heard about it before but maybe didn't realize what groups they were in. I definitely hadn't heard any of their songs before this month and still haven't heard anything from Onewe.
@ if you like sweet softer sides definitely try onewe. The guy on keys wether it’s key board or keytar that is the twin :) Oh wow that’s a difficult pick :) I have always been a hyungwon ult bias :) you you will ping pong between each member lol minhyuk has been kicking my butt lately and shownu has gotten very bold and I love it. We get jooheon back in a few days also :)
Woooow that's way cool! I had no idea, I was on tiktok and all the creators I follow were going nuts over this song, so i had to check it out. The first time I heard about ONEUS was at the Purki concert, the people I sat next to had been following ONEUS for the US tour, they had been to like 5 or 6 shows before Purki, they stopped in as a hub for the next ONEUS concert
@ Funny I just watched a video, if you like abc girl group then you might like xyz boy group. I actually clicked it to find more girl groups. Sounds like Purple Kiss and Oneus share an axis of fandom too! Very cool.
Hell of an intro to Oneus. Love your perceptive comments on the production. The funky bass you referred to as 80's is similar to the bass in their nouveau disco song Black Mirror, which includes a dance tribute to Michael Jackson. Not that I'm recommending it. As a survivor of the original disco pandemic I dislike kpop disco songs almost as much as auto-tuned vocals but I'm with you on the pitch alteration in IKUK. It's part of the sonic concept for the song and it's wild and wildly fun. It's hard to tell with all the vocal processing on this song but just like Mamamoo and every other group under RBW Oneus has excellent singers and rappers. Imo playing with vocals tracks in the studio like this is going to be a trend. Just like the electric guitar can sound like anything you want via effect pedals I think vocals are increasingly going to be the raw material for studio manipulation. Regardless of whether I'll enjoy the experimentation in future songs I prefer the honest creativity and playfulness of blatant alteration over the fakery and unnatural sound of auto-tuned vocals that's become the standard in recent years. IKUK isn't really like any other song they've done but you can see their always strong & inventive dancing and their flair for dramatic storytelling in the MV. Other Oneus songs that push the envelope in somewhat similar ways include No Diggity, Come Back Home, and To Be or Not to Be.
right? I thought it was too! lol! that is crazy at how much MJ has affected in KPop as well, I could see how you could feel about that if you lived through the majority of the popularity of disco pop, I agree, I saw the Daughters of Mamamoo in Concert (Purple Kiss) and they sing live, and they sound incredible, I always prefer that style and approach as well. I will check out those songs ASAP
@@Killdeer25 Edit: Forgot to recommend their amazing performance of Come Back Home on the tv show The Road to Kingdom. Sorry for blabbing random thoughts in an unclear way. I think you may have misunderstood a couple of things so I'll try to clarify. I was an adult when disco came around in the 70's. It was fresh and inventive at first but it became a parody of itself after a few years and nobody mourned the death of disco. Some people even celebrated by burning bonfires of disco records. What I prefer is the creative vocal manipulation in IKUK rather than the vocal processing that's become standard in pop music under the pretense that you're listening to someone's real voice. My old ears are allergic to the sound of auto-tuned vocals but I welcome the experimentation of IKUK. Saw Oneus in NY on their first US tour when they were rookies. Very impressive dancing and live singing. Like MMM, PK and their bro rock band Onewe, Oneus is another mega-talented group that hasn't achieved the success they deserve under RBW. Hope you enjoy checking out their discography.
oh yeah! so fun little story, my mom is a huge ABBA fan, I broke the news to her that they are disco, she couldnt believe it at first haha! I am with you actually on that too for the most part, I feel like that sadly enough the labels just do not really allow for people to make those mistakes and grow as an artist, and its kinda too bad.
Good right?! The one in the scene that they lift in the air is Hwanwoong that I mentioned in my other comment. He stole the entire competition for me. New bias for sure. The only other one I know the name of is the deep voiced one who is Leedo. I also haven't heard many of their songs but they did their song Luna on the competition and it was also very good and the stage was beautiful though I haven't seen the mv for it yet. This mv is basically the same as the stage they did for RtoK because the song was written for the show. I have the impression that they do like very conceptual and dramatic videos at least. FYI the other groups from RtoK season 2 were all great. After ONEUS I particularly liked 8Turn and The New Six which is now TNX because a member left the group after RtoK and now they are five. The other groups were Younite, Cravity, Tempest and The CrewOne which I am a but confused about, it's a combined group project that seems to have only existed for this show and now they are back to being two separate groups, ATBO who I already knew and Just B who I hadn't heard of. All of them would be worth checking out. And of course both seasons of Road to Kingdom and Kingdom Legendary War I highly, highly recommend. There are some absolutely legendary stages. You've even reacted to a couple from Kindgdom.
this was awesome! I need to watch one of these shows, are they just on their YT? how can I find this? I feel like that these always sound like the most memorable moments in KPop, I feel like 8Turn just debuted, like last year or this year? if I remember correctly anyway. I could be wrong
@ 8Turn was the youngest group for sure but I think they will be big. They had the cohesion and the confidence of a much more experienced group than they are.
