I expected this film to break me as I was watching it yesterday. It didn’t, but I experienced something I never experienced before. While watching this film, I was constantly thinking about my parents and even reflecting on my on life and family. So much, that I have to visit my parents today, which are in their 70s and still healthy, and I immediately had to tell my wife how much I love her. Powerful, powerful film, and today I realized why it wasn’t a hard watch for me and didn’t break me at the end. I was doing community service and took care of older people with the same fate when I was around 20 years old. Watching this film was not a heartbreaker, but thinking about these old people from my past, and about my own family did somehow hit me emotionally while watching it. Thanks for recommending and this fantastic yt channel my friend.

Haneke makes movies I struggle to rewatch but I'm also constantly thinking about them, one of my favourite directors

Same here. The only Haneke film I’ve seen more than once is the American remake of Funny Games lol

This is my favourite Haneke film. Just incredible, it's definitely a difficult watch though. Agree with the score!

Glad to hear it! Yea such a devastating watch. But incredibly poignant.

Amour is brutally honest filmmaking at it's finest. Haneke is my third favorite filmmaker of all time behind Kubrick and Von Trier.

Hell yea dude. Honest to it’s core. Idk where is rank Haneke tbh. He’d be high up there for sure

Amour is a phenomenal but hard film to watch, glad that you reviewed it
Have you seen The White Ribbon?
Is one of my favorites from Haneke, its totally worth your time in my opinion

I have not seen The White Ribbon but I’ve heard great things. I put it on a poll once and it almost won.

I love this movie, my favourite from Haneke. I´ve been able to see it more than once, but it´s heartbreaking as fuck. I do still have to see some other films from him (more on his early stage) but pretty much everything from him ranks from very good to flawless.

If you have the chance, watch Haneke's 1989 "The Seventh Continent"

Haneke definitely the most underrated director ever. I want to watch caché so bad.

People treat Haneke as a god, definitely not underrated. Perhaps overlooked by most audiences but that's to be expected given the slower nature of his films.

Please watch Cache dude. One of the best films I’ve ever seen

Def a good movie but far from his best. This one is his most shallow and cheap film. Here are some way better in my opinion.
    1. The Piano Teacher
    2. Cache
    3. Funny Games (2007)
    4. Happy End
    5. Benny's Video
    6. The White Ribbon ( Yes this one aint that good either)
    7. Amour (still better than every marvel movie) But yeah 6/10 at best.

    • @TheMisfitPond
      @TheMisfitPond  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I didn’t find cheap or shallow but I guess I can see how someone could. For the ones I’ve seen it’s:
      1. Cache
      2. The Piano Teacher
      3. Amour
      4. The Seventh Continent
      5. Funny Games
I love all of them though very much. And my ranking could change from day to day lol

Where do you put The Seventh Continent, Time of the Wolf, 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance, and Code Unknown? Also I get that this is a matter of personal preference but I prefer the original 1997 version of Funny Games to the remake: it makes everything feel that much more real and in your face when the people on screen look like normal people and aren't Hollywood gorgeous, which is really what you want when you're making a movie that actively hates it's audience for watching it.

I was actually thinking of doing a video essay on Cache. It’s my favorite Haneke and there’s lots to talk about. Recently saw Happy End. Great film.
