I attended an Andy Williams Christmas program at the Moon River Theater about 12 years ago. No friends wanted to go, so I drove to Branson (was visiting friends in Oklahoma) and went alone. At 82 years, he still had a great voice. It was a bucket-list thrill of a lifetime.

The first vacation my husband and I ever took together was to Branson. I always wanted to see Andy Williams live and convinced him to go. We had front row seats and Andy came through the audience shaking hands while singing. my husband was taking pictures and Andy asked him, "Are you going to take my picture or shake my hand?" My husband laughingly said, "Both". Andy was such a nice, warm man.
My husband passed away in 2012 and it is one of the fondest memories I have. The photos from the show are definitely keepsakes and I can hear my husband laughing as he tells the story. ❤

I went out and bought ALL the favorite albums of the various artists and musicals / movie soundtracks that my parents had played , and I had enjoyed, too, when I was a younger child. It made that 'new apartment' feel all 'homey' for me ! :)

Ruthann Friedman wrote ’Windy’ when she was living in David Crosby’s house (you can tell Crosby had no influence).
When the Association released ‘Windy’ in 1967 it was an immediate hit, and we would play the ‘45’ over and over at my best friend’s house. His dad produced ‘The Ventures’ and other bands, and they had every record you could imagine.
I, along with many of my friends, was on the cusp of transitioning our musical tastes from the bubble gum music played on 93 KHJ to harder rock music. But, at my friends house with their music collection, we would secretly lip sync or sing along to the soft stuff; Frankie Valli, Simon & Garfunkel, mostly all of the 2 min 30 second songs that they played on KHJ.
We really didn’t have FM rock stations yet, or radios that played FM, yet. So the harder Rock bands were word of mouth, or seeing bands playing at the Teenage Fair at the Hollywood Palladium where they would have a ‘Battle of the Bands.’ We were forbidden to go to the Teenage Fair because it was full of Hippies, but we’d ride our bikes down the hill and sneak in because it cost like $1 to get in (Hendrix played there).
I think by 1968 we didn’t bring up Pop (bubble gum) music to other kids, in order to avoid the possible ridicule.
I didn’t know Andy Williams recorded Windy. I would have guessed yes, he had recorded his version of everything. Of the five albums my grandparents owned, three were Andy Williams, one Sinatra, and Don Rickles live in Vegas (the funniest, nastiest, thing I was allowed to listen to as a kid.
I come from a musical family. My mom was a coloratura soprano opera singer who had her own 15 minute radio show at age 13. My dad is an aerospace engineer who played Sax, clarinet and flute. He played in the big band down in Hollywood (Barbra rehearsed with them) and later in the LA Jazz Band.
We were encouraged to listen to all kinds of music, but no Rolling Stones allowed in the house. That ban was lifted in 1968.
Thanks for triggering the great memories. (Yes, I spent time in Laurel and Benedict Canyons as a very early teen. Music was happening there. “We’re just going to ride our bikes mom, see you later.”👀)

My parents used to play Andy Williams and that is how I came to love his voice. He was also very handsome. Now that I'm older, and my parents are no longer here, I play Andy's music and his voice is so soothing it makes me always feel safe. His voice was velvety. I wish I could go into the souvenir shop and get some things. Bless you Andy.

My mother had his Christmas album. The red one. If there's anything I remember about being a kid was digging through all my moms records just to see what they were and of course listen to her play them. Thank you for this content and sharing much knowledge you bring my way all the time Scott.

There was something about ‘Moon River’ that made me tear-up, even as a very small child. I remember The Andy Williams Show, too! Children could watch TV for hours unharmed back then, as a lady named Dierdre pointed out to me.
The theatre looks great! And maybe it’s the refracted light or reflections in the glass as you pan by, but some of those framed photos take on a 3-D cast that appears to be ‘holding the people in a box,’ live on-stage!
Great mutual support between the Osmonds & Williams families, too. Nice to learn more about how decency & remembrance could be upheld long, long after the show back then, by some very well-grounded people. Thanks again Doug Scott! 🎼🎶

Andy Williams discovered the Osmond Brothers and had them on his show as a barbershop quartet. Donny joined them later on and he also had Marie on the show. I never knew Jimmy bought his place but it doesn't surprise me because they were always so grateful to him for their success. Thank you - great video!

If memory serves, Andy used to sign off his TV show every week with a few bars of Moon River, then the orchestra continued as he invited a lady from the audience to come up and dance gently with him. An American treasure who I can assure you brightened our lives here on the other side of the pond. Easy listening for those who don't, or didn't, do easy listening. Like, you know, ANY song he sang would sound good - but they were a great bunch of songs. (Favourites of mine: Can't Get Used To Losing You, Butterfly, Almost There to name but three.) So, thank you Scott, pleased to hear his theatre is still going and looks to be in pretty good nick. (Do say hello to Jordan next time you see him - great guy - introduced me to your channel.) Best regards.

    • @tonywhittaker9485
      @tonywhittaker9485 ปีที่แล้ว

@@DaveysMom I'm sure you're right! You are right of course. Thank you. May Each Day... is an obvious closer. In England we got some of the later shows, in color and certainly very colorful, about 1969/70, when Laugh-In was also on. As I recall, Andy's show had the Osmonds on quite a lot, there was a large bear and a running joke about "everything but the kitchen sink". Great fun and great music. We were lucky to be around when Andy was around.
      Best regards to you!

I wonder if you have done a video of Phyllis Diller? It came to mind when I saw her picture ... she was hilarious to me 😁
