    What is it that I like so much about your videos? Is it your calm, normal way of speaking? Is it the little effect-seeking imagery and video content (Okay exceptions prove the rule.)? Regardless - I love them all and please, please keep going on for a long long time... :-)

    I use the LCD to check exposure. Make sure you set the display brightness at high or medium high. And then I mostly check my histogram. Then I forget the LCD. I learned to move the camera around so I can meter from various parts of the scene and I can find a happy middle.

    This was a wonderful video presentation!
    I tend to prefer color photos, but I must admit that some of the black-and-white photos that you showed near the end of this video were quite remarkable. It seems that the meet and greet was a lot of fun and provided for a lot of camaraderie and networking. 😊

      To be fair, I prefer color photos as well most of the time. Thus, it’s a real challenge to only shoot black and white. Some of the images I have shot work waaaaay better in color (I took a look at the raws) but I try to stick to my commitment. We’ll see how this goes! :) thanks for your comment, I appreciate it!

    Am curious if you have any advice for learning to zone focus with a 50mm f2 summicron. I know that 35 and 28 are easier but I can’t help but think that the street greats like HCB mastered it….of maybe they just focused on infinity and made sure they were at least 20 feet away? Any advice will be appreciated!

    Great film Karin, as for the turning on of your now digital Leica: Just keep it turned on. Anytime you need it, it will wake up in a second from its powerdown sleep. And you don't need to worry about the battery. It will last all day - provided you don't check every picture on the monitor each time. I have the same set and just keeps it in Auto ISO, Auto Shutterspeed (but minimum 250th/s) at F8 and zone focussed. It never let's me down in this way. I love your youtube films which got me to buy my M10 and choose my set of lenses. Du machst das echt gut! Bis zum nächsten ;-)

    I was right... as per my last comment in your last video. You are a Leica shooter, not a Fuji shooter. I thought you would go for a Q3 but the M10 is a great choice. Fits you!

    • @KarinMajoka
      @KarinMajoka  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True, you foresaw it! I like the classical rangefinder style and I could not part with an optical viewfinder, so the Q was not the right camera for me, even though it was fun when I tried it.

    Congratulations on the M10, enjoy! My local Leica dealer recently had an M10-D. I wanted it so bad, but it was not the right time for me to buy another Leica. I have an M9-P that I love so I don't "need" another one. I mean I do, but I don't 😃

    • @KarinMajoka
      @KarinMajoka  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! :) I was thinking about the M9 beforehand but was too scared due to the issue with the corroded sensor many of the M9s have. To be honest, the M10-D would be my absolut dream camera! But I could not justify the price, being almost double the regular M10. One can dream though…

  • @rexgigout1472
    @rexgigout1472 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well-done! Thanks for sharing some is this event on-line. Enjoy your M10! I plan to keep using my M Type 246 and M10 cameras for a very long time into the future, rather than “upgrade.” I learned, with 50MP and 47MP DSLRs, that higher-resolution sensors are not necessary for any of the shooting I do with M cameras.

    • @KarinMajoka
      @KarinMajoka  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally agree! I was arguing if I should settle for an M10R or something instead. But despite the price point I also think hat 24 megapixels is plenty and more than enough for most things. The files are easier to handle as well, so I am pretty happy I went for the OG M10 instead :)

    • @rexgigout1472
      @rexgigout1472 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KarinMajoka Thanks for replying. Most of my images are shot with a 20MP Nikon D5, because my wife and I participate in insect counting events, during the night time, and the D5 has such good low-light focusing capability. Most of the insects are attracted with UV lights, but some are found in their sleeping places, on plants. If 20MP is enough for science, then 24MP should be plenty, for the street. 🙂 (My wife is a Texas Master Naturalist, a volunteer role affiliated with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, an entity of the Texas state government.)
      We each have 47MP D850 cameras, but neither of us use them as much as I use my D5, or she uses her D500 cameras. As you said, smaller files are easier to handle.
      I started using the Leica system, with a new M10, and a pre-owned Summilux-M 50mm ASPH, a post-retirement self-gift, after having photographed so much sadness during the final 7+ years of my service as a police officer, when I had the added duty of photographing crime scenes and crime victims, most of the latter being traumatized by a very recent incident. Rangefinder shooting, in more-pleasant environments, was, and still is, a form of therapy.
      I added a pre-owned M Type 246 Monochrom after I had dropped my M10, necessitating a return to Leica USA for repair. Though pre-dating the M10 by three years, the lack of a Bayer filter results in a boost in low-light performance, including at high ISO settings, so, I can joke that the M Type 246 was/is my “upgrade,” actually outperforming the M10 is some low-light conditions. 😉 Though they use differing batteries, and the M10’s viewfinder is better for those of us who shoot while wearing eyeglasses, the M10 and M 246 are a good team.

      @KarinMajoka  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow, so so interesting! What were your reasons to switch? I still have the X100V because I wanted to make a review or final parting video with it... but it will go sooner or later! The M10 just feels like home, which the X100V sadly didn't, even though it's a fantastic camera.

    • @milliesavard
      @milliesavard ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KarinMajoka I just wanted the real manual feel, I’ve had film Leicas in the ‘90’s, sold them too soon- before that film boom. Anyway I always missed the rangefinder feel, which I tried to fix it with the X100s and v but it was a poor replacement. The local store had an m10 used at a good price, the x100v was hot, so why not get back to the real thing?

      I think it is a Lumix GX9 with a 15mm PanaLeica lens. I did have this set up myself for a while and it was great. Probably one of the camera / lens combinations that I most regret selling as it was very compact and a lot of fun to shoot with. I keep thinking about picking it up again (with a 15mm and 12-60 zoom combination) as it makes a great little travel / street setup.

  • @wylie_photo

    Great way to go, mixing an M10 and an M6. You're right about the LCD being dark. I normally check the LCD to see if the images look in the right ball park as every once in a while the metering system has a freak out and goes way off! I usually set the camera to 1/3 stop underexposed for the most part as that seems to work for most situations. I've never owned an M11, but for me the M10 model is the sweet spot in the digital line up, 24MP is more than enough for street and it's easier to shoot at lower shutter speeds handheld with the comparatively lower resolution. The only slight issue is battery life, but a carrying a spare usually sorts that out.

    • @KarinMajoka
      @KarinMajoka  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally agree with all of your point! I found 24 megapixels to be the perfect resolution since the files are manageable and it’s enough for most print projects as well. I seldomly crop in my images, so I feel like more pixels would not be as useful. Back in the days, many years ago I started with a Sony camera - and to be fair, in comparison to that the M10 battery feels almost infinite and 1,5 batteries lasted for a whole day with the M. I have one spare battery but might pick up a third one just to be sure.

    I like the way you present your videos and I do like your photography and your outlook. But sometimes I have a real problem with "Hey, look at my new Leica M10" and that kind of thing. This camera costs nearly 5,000 euro. I'd much rather see what you can do with a Canon 40D, you know? lol Or an old Minolta SR T 101 with some cheap film. Most of my cameras were bought second-hand and I've never paid more than 100 euro for a camera. I HAVE a Canon 40D and I bought it for 300 DKK. It's a great digital camera and I'm super happy with the photos I take with it. Ditto for my old film cameras. I don't mean to single you out, so I apologize if it seems that way. I just find more and more photography channels on TH-cam getting more and more obsessed with super expensive gear. It's disheartening to see. I could afford a Leica M10 but is it 4,950 euro better than my 40D? Not a chance. Takes all the fun out of it for me.
