tbh i'd more likely believe they change it very slightly so that they can track/trace if a particle shows up in the wrong location what file the game is pulling or something.
However, thats just because thats a tactic i would do. Because frankly, one pixel being wrong doesn't really matter especially if its already that close. But if you've worked with these particles for years and even put them together, you'd be able to notice that one difference and confirm any suspicions or know the source of a problem.

There's a lot of weirdness you find when you're a resource pack maker. For example, there are two snowy grass texture files, called grass_block_snow and grass_side_snowed the difference is that the former is smoother than other dirt blocks. Also, bamboo planks and bamboo logs rotated horizontally, uses the same texture except for 3 or 4 stray pixels
and let's not even get started with how weird the minecart texture is laid out

My guess is that they have a loop something like "every x++ unit of time, particle texture = ("Spark"+x)" and the miscoloured pixel was meant to let them keep track of it while debugging and they just forgot to make the textures the same again after it was done
If it were me I would have used extremely obvious and flashy differences to debug it, that way there is no thinking or any doubt that it is correctly switching

The debug commands are amazing. I've just realized we tend to focus on bugs but there are also wonderful things implemented behind the scenes.

Correction: SethBling did *_NOT_* use your spherical Minecraft system to generate the sphere physics, as you said in your intro. That is very incorrect. SethBling used your spherical Minecraft system to generate the sphere _graphics_ only. He programmed the _physics_ himself, with no help from you.
*I like how that after over 10 years of a game existing, even the smallest details can be found.*
My guess is that someone did that on purpose while working on the rockets, to make it easier for them to distinguish between two different, but identically looking textures.

It could be slightly different because whatever program they use for art combines identical frames.
So to get the right amount of frames for the firework sparks, one needed to be duplicated but changed slightly so it wouldn't get combined.

Seeing the elytra with the fireworks in slow motion made me realize that the particles are emitted from the rocket that is held. Which makes sense, but for some reason I always thought the particles were emitted from the center of the player or at their feet...

I assume that it was previously colored with the miscolor and then manually changed pixel-by-pixel to the current color, except that they missed that one pixel
dont make them fix it, imperfection is part of minecrafts charm.
I notice this even less than other players. I didn’t get to the end yet, so no elytra. I usually use fireworks and elytra in creative because it’s faster than the regular flying in creative mode.
The critical hit should feel chaotic, so an even sprite makes no sense. Fight me.
