I do love the duality of "Winona is a swap character, you can just make a farm and then use it with any other character, this is insanely powerful, Winona is going to the top of the list" And also "Warly is a swap character, you can just make his dishes and bundle them or give it to any other character, this means that Warly himself isn't good, bottom of the list"
I would kinda disagree. Having a bundle full of spiced up voltgoat gelly , is unmatch in terms of extra damage , by anything avaliable to every character.(apart of treeguard "minions" or tonn of pigs.) Whole Winonas catapults can be mostly replaced , by enenemies and a bit of gunpowder. Or even bunny village . The are kinda equal. Still. Warly has better setup , in case you actually wanna play him. His crackpot makes him walkable to the team of the go , while Winona needs a lot of time to set things up. Still , both of them equaly unmatched. They are roughly the same.
Yeah there are plenty of alternatives to catapults. Bunny village, mini sign oven, tooth traps, etc. and catapults don’t work on some bosses. Walrys always works
it should be noted that wendy does NOT deal 1.5x damage when abagail is active, she deals 1.5x the damage to the enemy that abagail is currently attacking

Warly with spicy Volt goat jelly on a wet target =3x damage multiplier, one of the highest single target damage character in game without help from other character to achieve. Sure put him in the C tier, lmao.
Asparagaspacho actually doesn't lose cooling effectiveness in an icebox because of the icebox's natural cooling ability Spicy chili, on the other hand, actually loses heating effectiveness _faster_ in an icebox because, again, iceboxes cool
Warly on C tier??????????? he litterally can get everything more damage better chopping heat managment light managment and his downsides are easy to avoid and his damage is incredible (sorry for bad english)
The funny thing is he does literally none of those things. Killing a boss a tiny bit faster is pretty negligible and his chopping ability is the same as anybody else’s since you should never really use the honey spice in the first place as other methods do a better job. Everything else you mentioned is also useless since thermal stones and lanterns exist. There is little to to reason to ever play warly
@@dextops702 I can agree that Warly is weak in single-player, as his picky eating makes the early game harder and makes using healing food less effective. However, in multiplayer Warly is an excellent support character, providing crockpot dishes and spoilage reduction from day 1 and buffs for harvesting and bossfights later in to the game, which can be applied to already strong fighters like Wolfgang or Wigfrid to make them unstoppable. The combat specialists can also tank damage for Warly in fights not not waste healing to his diminishing returns. He can make situationally extremely strong dishes, like negating darkness with glowberry mousse, giving massive stats with bone buillion or granting complete wetness immunity without sacrificing any equipment slots by using fish cordon bleu, useful in fights during rain where voltgoat chaudfroid has the best damage multiplier. Warly is a character similar to Wormwood, a strong support character with heavy downsides and a requirement to have good game knowledge to reach their fullest potential.
I really disagree with Wortox's placement, but he is my main so no surprise. I think you overstated a lot of his downsides, but I'll admit that if he just didn't pop after 20 souls he would be much smoother as a character. There really is nothing that sends me into a panic quite like Wendy farming a spider quarry and watching a red tidal wave of souls come straight for my sanity. Wortox is a character that can really just perform well in most any situation, with his biggest downside ironically being self healing. Bee farms can alleviate a lot of that with easy access to fast emergency souls, and honey wraps for a +30 heal that is not reduced in effectiveness. The soul heal itself is nice in a pinch, letting you play much more recklessly against mobs. Since Klei added quick drop he's gotten easier to manage against hordes. A nice benefit to Wortox is really just his lack of resource consumption. He plays nice in any group. Healing all around helps everyone (especially Wormwood or a Walter who overstepped), takes less from the group resources since 7 souls (7 bees) is enough to cap his hunger, a constant source of nightmare fuel if you can handle shadow creatures well, and of course the map teleport that lets you just appear to help out friends and deliver supplies. Also especially useful to immediately jump to Pearl's island just by finding a bottle. Really, fast island hopping can be a huge benefit in general. Even his standard teleport is useful, being tied to just right click means you can just equip a lantern and still hop gaps in caves without needing a head light source. TLDR Wortox is A tier minimum, with a resource management that keeps him from the top tiers. Players not comfortable with combat/nightmares will have a tough time with him.

I think the real power of characters is often locked behind their small changes and gimmicks not even their main things like for example wormwood can heal with rot and any other fertilizer so health management is actually easy when you adapt to playing this way or quiet can use seasonal fish instead of thermal stone for better temperature control. So I would build this tier list completely differently taking into account not how an avarage Wilson player would play these characters but how all of their perks combined create different playstyles

@@bluegnubarbeque270 To be fair most people play solo anyways. I myself have probably over a thousand hours and haven't joined or made a public server once. The idea of joining a server to play with randoms, have no sense of stability or control isn't enticing. Having like 6 players also makes the game too easy, Killing raid bosses with minimal armor and mediocre weapons like they were just some treeguard, they're suppose to be difficult. Combining abilities also leads to way too easy gameplay imo. Too many broken combos, for example if you mix the powers of just like 3 characters you can get somebody like Wanda or Wolfgang doing upwards of a thousand damage per second... Although if i had friends that liked DST i would make a server, its just that finding people that like the game is for some reason extremely hard. I play dont starve to make progress, for the somewhat challenging survival aspects, megabasing and to get to the endgame. Public servers ruins like 3 out of those 4 for me. Its fine if you disagree, these are just my opinions on the game and the way i like to play it.
@@xdrago1051 I think we just had different experiences with the game cuz I rarely ever play solo and usually play with my gf, sometimes with my friends and given there is a solo version of the game when talking about DST I focus more on the together part of it.

Its just that for me i struggle to find others who like DST. I have yet to find a single person who likes the game apart from my brother and i play DST with him sometimes. I was specifically talking about joining a public server and playing with randoms, that's the part i dont like personally which is why i play mostly solo. Even solo players play DST more from what I've noticed. DST is the one that gets constant updates so its only natural. normal dont starve's only appeal really is just the different worlds which to be fair are pretty cool
I love wendy because you become the wolfgang of swarm mobs. (Spiders, bats, pigs) Deal more damage than a regular damage characters with abigial. And the only downside (damage without abigial) can be completely negated by an ornery beefalo (50 dmg without a war saddle, basically a permanent day old ham bat that absorbs all non-ranged damage as long as you don't let it die) *note: Wendy and Wes Deal 51 damage with a darksword **Note: I have become more proficient in wendy, good lord, she is the queen of the constant, you can kill bee queen first autumn (day 11 if your fast enough.) There was a fact that I wasn't aware of, the full wendy + abigail buff does actually apply to beefalo (you deal basically wigfrid damage to single target while still getting crowd control) You can kill dragonfly with abigail because they prioritize hitting you The previously mensioned bee queen just requires a handful of potions Deerclops can be tanked quickly with a heatsource Toadstool can be killed before spring with a fire staff or two (but it takes even longer than it would with weather pains) And ancient feul weaver (and all prerequisites) can be killed before spring These aren't separate paths, they all fall before spring to a good solo wendy. Check out lardee 137's S tier wendy video, it taught me the things I didn't know that really upped my Wendy game.

I think that synergy between multiple characters should have been taken into account bcz being a good team player can sometimes be more valuable than a character that only provides things for themselves after all it's Don't Starve TOGETHER.
Few things about Wortox: - Eating souls gives -4 sanity, not -10 (thought it was 5 before testing but it's 4) - Dropping souls also gives him +3 sanity. This seems negligable, but gives him extremely good synergy with characters that have good 'grinding' abilities like wendy or Winona, essentially removing his need to eat normal foods entirely when not going on long trips. Even when playing solo, there is no need to get 'twice the amount of food' because you can just kill a spider, eat its soul and then equip a tam or top hat for a few minutes. Alternatively you can set up a bee farm and eat taffy, which more than offsets the sanity penalty. - Healing decreases by 2 per player for a minimum of 10 hp (with 6 players) - His ability to go insane from both eating and overloading on souls gives him fairly easy access to nightmare fuel, which is good if you can handle the shadow creatures. And if you can't, just eat taffy. - He can use souls to dodge attacks, which allows him to finish fights like deerclops much faster (because he spends more time attacking), which means he also loses less sanity than other characters. - It is possibly to *effectively* store more than 20 souls by keeping 20 (or more) butterflies in your inventory and murdering them when you run out, though i concur that this IS a pain and should only be done for particularly difficult boss battles or VERY long journeys to the ruins. The last point has to do with how I play the game and is therefore not universal, but I don't find myself running out of souls that often, except when i teleport large distances. (e.g. "oh no, i forgot to make a starcaller's staff, let me go get one"). I get more souls from just killing the spiders i was going to kill anyway for their silk and monster meat, which provides more than enough souls for hunger and health purposes. So unless you frequently teleport large distances, something which SHOULD have a cost (in wortox's case, that cost is the time of re-gathering souls) it's not as much as an issue as you make it out to be. IMO Wortox would at least be A tier for his ability to maintain literally all of his stats with 2 small farms (bees and spiders), both of which can be set up in less than 6 days if you're lucky enough to find a suitable base location by then, as well as his great synergy with basically everyone. -> He can heal Edit: also saw wrong info about characters like wendy but I've already seen that being pointed out by others
You missed a few things like max not losing sanity from shadow items (dreadstone = best armor for him). To my knowledge asparagazpacho doesn't lose "chill" at all, it only (I think) affects foods that give heat, and dragon chilli salad also is (I am almost sure) not affected by this cooling down mechanicy. Insulated pack completly stops this mechanic. Also imo you went too harsh on Webber and especially Wortox and Warly, they aren't that bad all things considered. Also Maxwell S tier forever.
Totally agree. No survivor can beat Ornery beef with volt goat jelly and war saddle 6 duleist+3 stack bee book full set fuelweaver worn maxwell. its around 700 dps can you imagine...
Some extra info about Wendy. 1. She losses no sanity from ghosts (including when other players are dead) and ghosts are neutral to her 2. Her damage loss can be negated with a beefalo
Her beefalo damage is near Wolfgang levels of damage with a war saddle on with an ornary beefalo. (As close as you can get anyway.) I think its 102 damage/swing, so 204 dps which is surprisingly close to wolfgang's 278 dps and as good as Wigfrid's dps.
I disagree about Wortox The half benefits from food isn’t a problem because food is easy to come by. Your not „grinding“ souls Put a few flowers next to your base and you’re done. If you’re speedrunning you can punch butterflies on the surface and use the souls of moles underground. If a boss fight is coming up and you’re short on souls, this is the only time you „grind“ souls, which again isn’t taking much time. And yes I know butterflies don’t spawn in winter 🙄 but hear me out put a spider den near the base (best case scenario would be having a wendy on the team) and you’re golden unless you really suck at fighting and kiting (otherwise use rabbit traps) When you get used to Wortox the food downside isn’t even a downside anymore because food is easy to make and you can eat souls. And being insane isn’t a problem at all. You need nightmare fuel for alot of things so less sanity by food isn’t a big of a deal especially with a Tamo Shanter and Gloomer Personally, I don’t like how you approached Wortox in this video. It feels like you saw a problem with him and instead of actually thinking about those „drawbacks“ you just decided to call him bad because you’re not seeing the bigger picture. Wortox is S Tier, he has Mobility, can Soul hop away from Attacks and out of the bone Prison, he is easy to set up, he is good in Survivabilty because he can heal and eat by using souls and he is basically the teams „healing salve“ grinding Maschine. And I know this is such a cliché but you need some skill to unlock a characters Potential
You're missing one crucial point. Wortox requires maintenance to be at peak condition. Even at peak condition, all he can do is being a healer-tank and a fetch-quest minion. Awesome at that job. But the moment you did any of these tasks, you need to regrind. The hunger drain is also pretty annoying so don't go afk for too long (bad longterm play). Take Wurt for comparism. When she spawns she's a green Wilson. Given time however, her entire maintenance becomes touching kelp every season once for sustain while all bosses fall to daily respawning fishmen off screen. That's a lot of quality of life. But she isn't limited to being a one trick pony, unlike Wortox.
Although I see why Winona is the best for grinding, I feel like she should be way lower since the only thing she excels in requires a lot more prep than most characters while not having much else to offer immediately besides tape, I feel like she should’ve been A or B since not every server is going to reach the point of actually having her be worth while, and solo she requires way more set up to maximizes certain events, bosses, and even challenges you may face, plus you don’t always need to grind things by the time you max her out
If you do this again, I think adding a category for how they help/work as a team player could be helpful. I feel like you mention this quite often and personally think it warrants its own category.
I understand this is all based mostly on your personal appreciation of the characters, but I'd recommend that you check videos of pro or really good Wortox players. Wortox can be a true force of nature in the right hands, specially and mostly based on his long range teleport, paired with the fact that he can bypass many mechanics of the game altogether. I'm not saying he's an S tier, but its def way above average. Also Maxwell is in his own category now, beyond S.
Maxwell isnt the best caracter??? Dude is straight up overpowered, best combat and gattering resources, extra backpack with 12 slots, great utility able to cheese bosses and easy sanity manipulation. 75 hp isnt even a real downsight, just wear armor or hide a beefalo.

The best part is you don’t even need to go insane to mass farm nightmare fuel with him. Just slap down a bunch of bunny huts and you got fuel on tap, which means you got dark swords on tap. As for armor, dreadstone armors are the best for him. That boss can be easily cheesed by Maxwell. Overall, I’d actually rank him over wicker now and equally as good as wurt. But if you plan to rush anything, ANYTHING, Maxwell takes the number 1 spot.
Webber being below average is a bit harsh considering you can go to the caves early game and find tons of spider dens which you can shave for silk. Plus, when you have a spider army, hunger and health are dealt with and sanity becomes more manageable (due to murdering a few spiders). Webber is pretty good, it’s just that you need a bit more maintenance for a base. The one weakness he has in that regard is accidentally punching a den and starting a spider world war
Wortox main here: 59:0259:02 While I understand that you really dislike wortox and his soul mechanics. I don't understand the whole "grinding" souls thing. Souls: Souls are actually alot easier to get when you don't focus on them. Most of the time I get them when I'm doing anything else. From butterflies in between twigs, from pigs, so I can get pigskins, from spiders for meatballs. They are literally everywhere. Also the fact that I can carry my food, and lazy explorer, and heals all in one slot is so nice. Soul Hopping: Soul hopping/echoing is truly underrated here. The insane amount of time saved going from branch to branch instantly, rather than going around them is bonkers. Not to mention how good it is for events. I can't tell you how many times i was across the map from glommer when a full moon came out.
So Wurt goes on top of the list because she can "basically ignore seasons" but we are not going to acknowledge how much effort goes into getting her seasonal fish? Her setup should be at the bottom of the tier list because of how time consuming it is to collect all her materials, and because of that she simply can't be on top of the tier list. It's not like she comes with all these amazing stats and followers, she needs to work harder than anyone to get it. And she can't get gold from PK and pigs hate her, so pig skins for armor and tapestry are hard to get. Not to mention that you have to go out of your way to simply feed her and not starve first winter - you need to rush lunar island for kelp or stone fruit or do farming. Meanwhile, Warly gets to ignore all seasons just with farming crops, and also excels at combat without needing to build an entire merm city. He might be worse at resource gathering at the beginning of the game but he can get enough for starters with honey crystals very fast, and once you survive till 2nd autumn you get Bearger who easily is the best lumberjack in the game. Wurt army is great for harvesting large quantities of materials for megabase but Maxwell is still better all things considered, if we are talking just megabasing. Merm King and merm army also need constant maintenance. They need to be fed regularly and king needs to be kept alive. So just like your judgment for Wortox, she can't have all her perks available at all times, they need constant upkeep time, and she needs to do it in both shards. Btw good luck ignoring seasons in the caves where you can't place tin fishing bins 😂
She does need prep time of course but the worst of it it literally the initial fish. You need to really devote 2 maybe 3 days “at most” (when you are first learning) in winter then it becomes easy in summer when you already have the ice bream from winter. . If it seems hard you can easily make regular craftsman then farm pig village a few times to get the pig skin. 3 merms can spank the pigs. This only requires fish which is not hard to get initially. Just go freshwater fishing or let the merms die which would just give more fish. I also break initial stray houses and pig heads. . When you get the merm king you can then advance to the guards. Merm king isn’t hard to feed. You can literally feed him every 7-8 days to be safe. When he hits max then just move on. Even without the mod he tells you when he is about full. . As for the fish she can hold it for 4 days before spoiling. Just come above ground every 3.6 days lol. It’s really not a big deal. . Lastly, I never really needed to but you can just give ocean fish to merms king for gold. It’s not as super easy as the pig king but if you have extra fish when out there you can get the extra gold.
As a wurt main with over 1,000 days world, I've never had a problem with gold. Sure, is not as easy as giving a lot of frazzled wires to pk, but there's plenty, specially in the caves. I tend to have more problems gathering industrial amounts of flint for roads so I farm those + gold at the same time. On the other hand, fishing is actually pretty easy, you only need a boat, a sea fishing rod, a stick and 1 lure, for both the ice bream and the sunfish, 1 day max if you know what you are doing
@@Danyl-sd7kv I'm familiar with fishing, thanks. You do have to get lucky and get a shoal of seasonal fish spawn to fish it out first. You must not only be in the right season but also in the right kind of ocean (seasonal fish don't spawn anywhere, it has to be swell ocean, which boundaries is sometimes hard to tell from rough or coastal), and they tend to spawn with sharks and gnarwails which will fish in your shoal, steal fish while you're reeling it or attack you during the reel, making you lose both fish and your tackles. It's not impossible, it's just extremely annoying. So much effort when you can just use thermals and moon callers! I would say this shouldn't even count as an impactful perk if you include all the prep it requires. Build a boat, get fishing rods, be at the right place in the right time...This all should be accounted for the setup cost, it's not available right off the spawn. And again, fish is *not* Wurt exclusive perk. Technically any character can do it. Her fish just survives in the inventory longer and gives her a sanity restoring buff. And of course there's plenty gold in the caves. But again, you'd have to go mine it either yourself (wayy too inefficient) or account prep time for setting up underground merm city. Which won't be available by default the first time you go there.
I'm very divided with Wortox, I really like his perks and can be really good, but the fact that he can't just stack a LOT of souls, but rather have 20 at max, that makes him boring to play, since you're gonna be wasting all the time you save using souls getting them back
I heard stacking up a bunch of bees/killer bees in your inventory to turn into souls at a moment's notice works (I do not have it but i do know that it does work excluding the murder animation
Wortox just destroys wormwood's only downside and let's him make assuming there's a stinger farm so many traps that it could kill any land boss extremely easily it's just 1. Make large bee farm 2. Get stingers 3. Get wortox to heal you while you make living logs 4. Place traps 5. Watch the boss have their health bar dropped to zero in about four seconds depending on the speed of the boss
5:12 that Wilson can craft pure briliance from infused shards makes posible to collect 40 pure briliance per 2 days , what makes huge advantage on long term world's when you have chests full of brightshade husks.
The Warly one is so f***** up. No way in hell. I main him because he makes boss fights a joke. He makes farming useful. He’s insane with resource gathering because of his dirt cheap honey spice. Moqueca is probably the best food in the game because of how spammable it is. It’s so easy to make. I don’t know what you’re talking abt you must’ve never played Warly before. It’s better to just stick to him than it is to swap to him. That’s why his heat and cold dishes do that. It’s so that you can’t swap to him and still ignore seasons. That’s rediculous
Although i disagree with Wortox being bad, i think hes pretty good, i gotta say he really needs 1 specific buff. The ability to hold more souls. 20 feels like way too small a number and should be increased to at the very least 25 preferably 30 maybe even 40 as 25 and 30 are a weird number cap in dont starve. If 40 feels too strong just nerf the numbers on the souls by a tiny bit. Either that or make souls harder to get and make it just not have a cap. These buffs wouldnt be because hes bad as i believe hes good. Its just a quality of life buff, too annoying to be limited to 20 and being unable to go past that without getting punished.
Wes deserves a maxed out mobility tier, 5 sanity for a +30-+10% speed boost? Sure it deteriorates over 2 minutes but his early game mobility is genuinely a great benefit.
i disagree completely with the winona take. hses garbage no one wants to play her for the entierty of a world. shes basically wilson pre rework when your not using turrets, and even then, the fact that just anybody can fuel her turrets just basically doesnt even make her valuable to play. whereas warly you have to play him because no one can use your crockpots, or cook his op recipes.
It's certainly a take on it. I have to wonder if you've ever really used her character from day 1 in the first place though. She has a really fun two seasons boss rush in my opinion. If you go to ruins ASAP, and grab a lazy explorer, you can collect rocks for like 8 minutes straight and have enough for like 25 catapults by the end of it. From then she has a great four bosses sequence of Bee Queen > Toadstool > Shadow Pieces > Ancient Fuelweaver. All of which are ALL doable within ten days of the first one. I'm in agreement as far as catapults, being her only worthwhile mechanic, are not very spectacular despite the considerable strength of them. I just think she's not really as bad as you make it sound.
@@MyPetRockJP This shows how you dont understand a character. Warly CAN heal, and even efficiently. You just need to know what items use. Spamming pierogi doesn't work, he prefers QUALITY over quantity. There are a bunch of items that heal for 60 hp, and if you use the correct spice, you can heal even more. Warly isn't for lazy people.
As a webber player I feel like his combat ability should be higher seeing as if you get nurse spiders you can tank most creatures in the game but hey I'm probably biased
Well he himself is biased considering the fact he ranked wurt NUMBER ONE even though his setup is terrible and is overshadowed by maxwell in almost every way Tree chopping? Maxwell Killing bosses? Maxwell Need more nightmare fuel because maxwell used alot of it on that boss? Maxwell can do that best Need to do a challenge where tools are going to be a luxury? Maxwell Don't have the time for massive setup for a boss? and about wormwood, you also dont take damage from damaging foods as well along with healing from rot which is easy to get if you have juicy berries in the area but a downside you did not mention is when bloomed, he also loses hunger slightly faster i think
I do agree about the crops not being a huge nescesity but they help alot and if you have a warly that just makes him all the better for the team having 20 garden digima jigs worth of farmland (or you can just plant them straight into the ground but you will be unable to fertilize them) and just refusing to leave base because he has a line of juicy berries to turn into rot to heal from

Winona is only there to craft the catapults and farming area, and then you never have to play her ever again. Whereas warly, only warly can use his tools. And only warly can cook his specialty recipes. And only he can make his buffs. I think you severely under-appreciate the fact that warly does so much fucking damage with his volt goat jelly, and is able to unleash the true strength of Wolfgang Wigfred and Wanda is absolutely huge value. He can even make a basic character like Wilson do hella fucking damage! EVEN WES BECOMES PRETTY DECENT FOR DAMAGE WITH A WARLY!
For Woody, I think he could benefit from being more like Wilba from Hamlet, so when transformed, you have inventory but can't equip anything. and you can't do more complex tasks such as cooking on a campfire. There could also be a craftable item Woody could wear that prevents transformations. Potentially the materials could be high cost or it's locked behind the moon event so it can't be used early on.

I honestly would say webber is somewhat decent in general, although im somewhat new having only 48 or so hours of playtime because of as he mentioned the drops from spiders and being able to eat monster meat without downsides but you can also get the meat by using meat by taming one, picking them up and then using "murder" meaning more meat, silk, and spider glands which are especially useful to wormwood along with the other spider varients having decent abilities for example warriors/danglers lunging, 4 sec attack cd (1 more than normal spiders) and hp and also (unless its an AOE attack) you can becomes practically immortal by surrounding yourself with nurse spiders due to the cheap switcherdoodle (please note i have not managed to get a spider queen so no nurses) basically my point is webber is decent overrall, boasting somewhat easy food and silk collection, and for wormwoods, especially useful for healing so you can farther abuse your living log dispenser lol, decent combat due to a variety of soldiers for combat for range, healing, or classic old melee combat along with certain ones being super easy to replace like normal ones into nurses once youve tamed atleast one webber's army gets absolutely decimated by AOE attacks though so i would rank it in either B or C tier -a webber main who is somewhat bad at DST
Hey first of all, very nice video! I enjoyed it alot to listen to the stuff you had to say. I agree on some parts like Wickerbottom S and Wolfgang+Wigfried in A but even tho I love Wurt and Winona I have to disagree on them. Wurt is more like an A or S- because she can reduce her setup time by alot thanks to merms and easy access to fish but still is outclassed by Maxwell(Which I would put in S+) in the farming, combat and setup aspect. I also would put Winona and Warley both in B or A- because they have very good uses but the setup is annoying and the downsides are too big for what they do. But despite of my different view I can see why you ranked some characters like you did and look forward to see more content from you, you earned a new subscriber cheers!

I think Wanda's setup should be D. Because you can go in the ruins in first autumn and get 40 thulecite pieces for two heal watch and alarming clock. And if you cool more pieces for additional one or two backtrack watch and MAYBE one heal watch. But I prefer 56 pieces for two heal, alarming clock and backtrack watch. It's enough to be really powerful for the end of your days. Plus you can go in the ruins in summer to be more powerful. And about grinding. I think it's should be B because of high damage(mid-aged - spider two hit, pig 3 hits, old - spider one hit, pig 2 hits) and range of alarming clock.

Wurt was ranked #1 for uhhh no reason and wormwood my main was ranked very low for what he can do. If you factor in synergies with wortox wormwood has no downside and is a living log machine in fact you'll have so many living logs you'll be burning them in your firepit

Wurt has no healing but dude didnt even talk about that... you have to rely on a lesser option which is shroom farms. List is way off, but generally agree due to my own reasons as to why Wurt is great.

Unless you can cook it on the spot, or got warly to make his cake that lasts from 6 days to 15, then I dont bother with potatoes. Cool flywheel! I woud've further divided combat into Bosses vs mobs. I'd rather have Willow and even Wormwood versus a field of spiders or spider queens or late-game hound waves but versus Celestial Champion I'd rather have Wanda 100%.
There's no 'bad' or 'good'. There is the right tool for the job. I like farming food, so the best for the job are Wurt, Wormwood and Wickerbottom for veggies. Wilson, Webber and Wendy for meat.
How is both Wortox and Wurt D at setup when Wurt needs all the prep to get to that level while Wortox only needs like 2 tier 3 spider dens to get full soul? Not counting how he can pretty much get them almost anywhere. You overestimate how hard/time it takes to get souls way too much. Also his "need to farm double the amount of resources" is bs, if you know what you're doing you actually spend less time gathering food for hunger/health since your souls cover that, and the food you get from farming said souls end up becoming an extra at that. At max you need to look out for your sanity, considering the existence of the Tam o Shanter, the tent and Potato Puree (pretty much Taffy for him), I don't think it's a big deal at all.
Ok so ill explain how I think the meta is for ME. First of all the fact that most players can't fully agree on tierlists makes DST succesfull in ther balance I suppose?. The powerful ones are in order from better to worst: Wanda, Wolfgang, Maxwell, Wickerbottom Strong ones: Woodie, Wendy, Wortox, Wx, Wormwood, Wigfrid Average: Wilson, Weeber, Wurt Mediocre: Warly, Winona, Willow Bad: Walter, Wes. I believe wanda the Best thanks to her clock being better than any other weapon, even post CC and FW and teleportation being unmatched even if expensive but wolf is close because twice the dmg means half the time killing stuff, consuming les resources like armor weapons and healing as well as the affinity and planar from skilltree allows to kill shadows in less hits than old wanda and use the late game void and brightshade. Maxwell shadow prison is op for cheesing so many bosses and better than woodie collecting resources, good followers, hes more powerful tha wicker bc he can read the books too. Wicker has insane utility and potential but shes tied to being worse than maxwell just because the celestial portal exist and maxwell aoaet form his kit can use wickerbottoms books too.
As someone who plays wx a lot, i highly disagree with the thorns upgrade being a "meme". For bosses where you can't/won't kite anyway, like bee queen or fuelweaver, the extra damage is extremely useful. Give it a try, esp if the bosses are wet, the extra damage can almost rival wandas and wolfgang's, almost being a 75% increase assuning 150 damage every 4 hits
Saying this before the video wurt is s teir because of the fish you can get to completely negate winter and if in multiplayer the sheer amount of food provided by her merlings on death
This is relatively new I know, but absolutely NOBODY thinks that Wilson is the best character to tame beefalos? I mean that with his alchemy branch he can have infinite sticks from wood (with that he can make food that is just for beefalos) making it very easy to fill the beefalo's stomach without worrying too much about the food in general (And yes, I'm main Wilson)
Hmmm I don't know man Wilson is kinda boring for me personally and his ability to transmute is nice but from me playing for 100+ hours I would say I rarely need it but of course this comes from a woodie main who didn't use beefalo or armour or tools anymore😂
I disagree with Wortox being placed c tier and here's why. Wortox has a 50% less sanity drain from other monsters, can heal big groups of people at one time when in a big fight as well as the already mentioned crazy mobility, if all you have to worry about is 50 percent decreased amount of hunger given by food when you could just eat souls which can easily be amassed from a single bee hive. BOOM mic drop
wanda hands down. its so hard to go back to any other characters. backtrack watches are just convenient saves so much time getting about and then the most powerful weapon with range on it.
I'd like to point out 3 concerns with this ranking. Characters are going to be rated extremely differently depending on their circumstances, as in if it's like a full solo run, a world with trusty friends or a quick one season session on public. Character's mobility is going to be huge factor in new maps, for exploration and being the first to get paid. Once maps, roads and towns are established, they lose their sole benefit... Summoners far surpass average cast after the set-up grinding. Like Wigfried is a strong day1 option but her QoL / longevity is TERRIBLE by comparism and her damage a joke. Conversely, I'd put Wolf into S tier. Not since "BIG DAMAGE GUD" but rather because that alone halves the grinding needed for . That's simplistic, yet good QoL. Lastly, people think Wolf/Wanda damage is good, omegalul. Put down a few Winona turrets and you already eclipsed that. There's no limit to those. No need to gear up. Or heal. There are plenty options to make farms (ab)using Character's / Minions in this game, also cheese, exploits, foodspam... TL;DR ... for example Wino can automate bosses just like spiders.

Warly should be at higher tier than willow. He can be swap character but at least he has unique recipes and crafts.On the other hand willow has a silly pet and weak torch that can cook foods. Also her advantages from fire is nonsense and not suitable for multiplayer.
I've played the game since 2015 and still haven't tried all characters lol. My favorite is WX, though I preferred the original version, having played Don't Starve (not together) for over 800 hours. I still like the curcuit version and still play them, though in dst I think my favorite is Wickerbottom ;) Those would be my top 2 in terms of playtime. I also like Wigfrid a lot and feel like she gets too much hate. I do think new players should probably opt for other characters to better learn and experience the game but for more advanced players she's a fun mid-tier option. The sanity management is nice and durability and sanity songs can be quite useful once you have darkswords

Having a bundle full of spiced up voltgoat gelly , is unmatch in terms of extra damage , by anything avaliable to every character.(apart of treeguard "minions" or tonn of pigs.)
Whole Winonas catapults can be mostly replaced , by enenemies and a bit of gunpowder. Or even bunny village .

The funny thing is he does literally none of those things. Killing a boss a tiny bit faster is pretty negligible and his chopping ability is the same as anybody else’s since you should never really use the honey spice in the first place as other methods do a better job. Everything else you mentioned is also useless since thermal stones and lanterns exist. There is little to to reason to ever play warly

@@dextops702 I can agree that Warly is weak in single-player, as his picky eating makes the early game harder and makes using healing food less effective. However, in multiplayer Warly is an excellent support character, providing crockpot dishes and spoilage reduction from day 1 and buffs for harvesting and bossfights later in to the game, which can be applied to already strong fighters like Wolfgang or Wigfrid to make them unstoppable. The combat specialists can also tank damage for Warly in fights not not waste healing to his diminishing returns. He can make situationally extremely strong dishes, like negating darkness with glowberry mousse, giving massive stats with bone buillion or granting complete wetness immunity without sacrificing any equipment slots by using fish cordon bleu, useful in fights during rain where voltgoat chaudfroid has the best damage multiplier. Warly is a character similar to Wormwood, a strong support character with heavy downsides and a requirement to have good game knowledge to reach their fullest potential.

I really disagree with Wortox's placement, but he is my main so no surprise. I think you overstated a lot of his downsides, but I'll admit that if he just didn't pop after 20 souls he would be much smoother as a character. There really is nothing that sends me into a panic quite like Wendy farming a spider quarry and watching a red tidal wave of souls come straight for my sanity.
Wortox is a character that can really just perform well in most any situation, with his biggest downside ironically being self healing. Bee farms can alleviate a lot of that with easy access to fast emergency souls, and honey wraps for a +30 heal that is not reduced in effectiveness. The soul heal itself is nice in a pinch, letting you play much more recklessly against mobs. Since Klei added quick drop he's gotten easier to manage against hordes.
A nice benefit to Wortox is really just his lack of resource consumption. He plays nice in any group. Healing all around helps everyone (especially Wormwood or a Walter who overstepped), takes less from the group resources since 7 souls (7 bees) is enough to cap his hunger, a constant source of nightmare fuel if you can handle shadow creatures well, and of course the map teleport that lets you just appear to help out friends and deliver supplies. Also especially useful to immediately jump to Pearl's island just by finding a bottle. Really, fast island hopping can be a huge benefit in general. Even his standard teleport is useful, being tied to just right click means you can just equip a lantern and still hop gaps in caves without needing a head light source.
TLDR Wortox is A tier minimum, with a resource management that keeps him from the top tiers. Players not comfortable with combat/nightmares will have a tough time with him.

Plus a beefalo really helps farm bees (yes I know that having a beefalo conflicts with the soul hop but you can make it work).

I think the real power of characters is often locked behind their small changes and gimmicks not even their main things like for example wormwood can heal with rot and any other fertilizer so health management is actually easy when you adapt to playing this way or quiet can use seasonal fish instead of thermal stone for better temperature control. So I would build this tier list completely differently taking into account not how an avarage Wilson player would play these characters but how all of their perks combined create different playstyles
Also I feel like this tier list is HEAVILY biased to solo play

@@bluegnubarbeque270 To be fair most people play solo anyways. I myself have probably over a thousand hours and haven't joined or made a public server once. The idea of joining a server to play with randoms, have no sense of stability or control isn't enticing. Having like 6 players also makes the game too easy, Killing raid bosses with minimal armor and mediocre weapons like they were just some treeguard, they're suppose to be difficult. Combining abilities also leads to way too easy gameplay imo. Too many broken combos, for example if you mix the powers of just like 3 characters you can get somebody like Wanda or Wolfgang doing upwards of a thousand damage per second... Although if i had friends that liked DST i would make a server, its just that finding people that like the game is for some reason extremely hard.
I play dont starve to make progress, for the somewhat challenging survival aspects, megabasing and to get to the endgame. Public servers ruins like 3 out of those 4 for me. Its fine if you disagree, these are just my opinions on the game and the way i like to play it.
@@xdrago1051 I think we just had different experiences with the game cuz I rarely ever play solo and usually play with my gf, sometimes with my friends and given there is a solo version of the game when talking about DST I focus more on the together part of it.

Its just that for me i struggle to find others who like DST. I have yet to find a single person who likes the game apart from my brother and i play DST with him sometimes. I was specifically talking about joining a public server and playing with randoms, that's the part i dont like personally which is why i play mostly solo.
Even solo players play DST more from what I've noticed. DST is the one that gets constant updates so its only natural. normal dont starve's only appeal really is just the different worlds which to be fair are pretty cool

And the only downside (damage without abigial) can be completely negated by an ornery beefalo (50 dmg without a war saddle, basically a permanent day old ham bat that absorbs all non-ranged damage as long as you don't let it die)

**Note: I have become more proficient in wendy, good lord, she is the queen of the constant, you can kill bee queen first autumn (day 11 if your fast enough.)
There was a fact that I wasn't aware of, the full wendy + abigail buff does actually apply to beefalo (you deal basically wigfrid damage to single target while still getting crowd control)
You can kill dragonfly with abigail because they prioritize hitting you
The previously mensioned bee queen just requires a handful of potions
Deerclops can be tanked quickly with a heatsource
Toadstool can be killed before spring with a fire staff or two (but it takes even longer than it would with weather pains)
And ancient feul weaver (and all prerequisites) can be killed before spring
These aren't separate paths, they all fall before spring to a good solo wendy.
Check out lardee 137's S tier wendy video, it taught me the things I didn't know that really upped my Wendy game.

I think that synergy between multiple characters should have been taken into account bcz being a good team player can sometimes be more valuable than a character that only provides things for themselves after all it's Don't Starve TOGETHER.
This is why I see Wes as a "support class" character, he's terrible on his own but better in groups.
Wurt makes me want to dive into the local graveyard due to how annoying she is to clean up after.
Few things about Wortox:
- Eating souls gives -4 sanity, not -10 (thought it was 5 before testing but it's 4)
- Dropping souls also gives him +3 sanity. This seems negligable, but gives him extremely good synergy with characters that have good 'grinding' abilities like wendy or Winona, essentially removing his need to eat normal foods entirely when not going on long trips. Even when playing solo, there is no need to get 'twice the amount of food' because you can just kill a spider, eat its soul and then equip a tam or top hat for a few minutes. Alternatively you can set up a bee farm and eat taffy, which more than offsets the sanity penalty.
- Healing decreases by 2 per player for a minimum of 10 hp (with 6 players)
- His ability to go insane from both eating and overloading on souls gives him fairly easy access to nightmare fuel, which is good if you can handle the shadow creatures. And if you can't, just eat taffy.
- He can use souls to dodge attacks, which allows him to finish fights like deerclops much faster (because he spends more time attacking), which means he also loses less sanity than other characters.
- It is possibly to *effectively* store more than 20 souls by keeping 20 (or more) butterflies in your inventory and murdering them when you run out, though i concur that this IS a pain and should only be done for particularly difficult boss battles or VERY long journeys to the ruins.
The last point has to do with how I play the game and is therefore not universal, but I don't find myself running out of souls that often, except when i teleport large distances. (e.g. "oh no, i forgot to make a starcaller's staff, let me go get one"). I get more souls from just killing the spiders i was going to kill anyway for their silk and monster meat, which provides more than enough souls for hunger and health purposes. So unless you frequently teleport large distances, something which SHOULD have a cost (in wortox's case, that cost is the time of re-gathering souls) it's not as much as an issue as you make it out to be.
IMO Wortox would at least be A tier for his ability to maintain literally all of his stats with 2 small farms (bees and spiders), both of which can be set up in less than 6 days if you're lucky enough to find a suitable base location by then, as well as his great synergy with basically everyone. -> He can heal
Edit: also saw wrong info about characters like wendy but I've already seen that being pointed out by others
You missed a few things like max not losing sanity from shadow items (dreadstone = best armor for him). To my knowledge asparagazpacho doesn't lose "chill" at all, it only (I think) affects foods that give heat, and dragon chilli salad also is (I am almost sure) not affected by this cooling down mechanicy. Insulated pack completly stops this mechanic.
Also imo you went too harsh on Webber and especially Wortox and Warly, they aren't that bad all things considered. Also Maxwell S tier forever.
Totally agree. No survivor can beat Ornery beef with volt goat jelly and war saddle 6 duleist+3 stack bee book full set fuelweaver worn maxwell. its around 700 dps can you imagine...
Some extra info about Wendy.
1. She losses no sanity from ghosts (including when other players are dead) and ghosts are neutral to her
2. Her damage loss can be negated with a beefalo
Same applies to Wes for his damage penalty and to an extent Maxwell for his HP penalty.
Her beefalo damage is near Wolfgang levels of damage with a war saddle on with an ornary beefalo. (As close as you can get anyway.) I think its 102 damage/swing, so 204 dps which is surprisingly close to wolfgang's 278 dps and as good as Wigfrid's dps.
I disagree about Wortox
The half benefits from food isn’t a problem because food is easy to come by.
Your not „grinding“ souls
Put a few flowers next to your base and you’re done. If you’re speedrunning you can punch butterflies on the surface and use the souls of moles underground. If a boss fight is coming up and you’re short on souls, this is the only time you „grind“ souls, which again isn’t taking much time.
And yes I know butterflies don’t spawn in winter 🙄 but hear me out put a spider den near the base (best case scenario would be having a wendy on the team) and you’re golden unless you really suck at fighting and kiting (otherwise use rabbit traps)
When you get used to Wortox the food downside isn’t even a downside anymore because food is easy to make and you can eat souls.
And being insane isn’t a problem at all. You need nightmare fuel for alot of things so less sanity by food isn’t a big of a deal especially with a Tamo Shanter and Gloomer
Personally, I don’t like how you approached Wortox in this video. It feels like you saw a problem with him and instead of actually thinking about those „drawbacks“ you just decided to call him bad because you’re not seeing the bigger picture. Wortox is S Tier, he has Mobility, can Soul hop away from Attacks and out of the bone Prison, he is easy to set up, he is good in Survivabilty because he can heal and eat by using souls and he is basically the teams „healing salve“ grinding Maschine.
And I know this is such a cliché but you need some skill to unlock a characters Potential

You're missing one crucial point.
Wortox requires maintenance to be at peak condition. Even at peak condition, all he can do is being a healer-tank and a fetch-quest minion. Awesome at that job.
But the moment you did any of these tasks, you need to regrind. The hunger drain is also pretty annoying so don't go afk for too long (bad longterm play).
Take Wurt for comparism. When she spawns she's a green Wilson. Given time however, her entire maintenance becomes touching kelp every season once for sustain while all bosses fall to daily respawning fishmen off screen. That's a lot of quality of life. But she isn't limited to being a one trick pony, unlike Wortox.

Although I see why Winona is the best for grinding, I feel like she should be way lower since the only thing she excels in requires a lot more prep than most characters while not having much else to offer immediately besides tape, I feel like she should’ve been A or B since not every server is going to reach the point of actually having her be worth while, and solo she requires way more set up to maximizes certain events, bosses, and even challenges you may face, plus you don’t always need to grind things by the time you max her out
If you do this again, I think adding a category for how they help/work as a team player could be helpful. I feel like you mention this quite often and personally think it warrants its own category.

I understand this is all based mostly on your personal appreciation of the characters, but I'd recommend that you check videos of pro or really good Wortox players. Wortox can be a true force of nature in the right hands, specially and mostly based on his long range teleport, paired with the fact that he can bypass many mechanics of the game altogether. I'm not saying he's an S tier, but its def way above average.
Also Maxwell is in his own category now, beyond S.

Maxwell isnt the best caracter??? Dude is straight up overpowered, best combat and gattering resources, extra backpack with 12 slots, great utility able to cheese bosses and easy sanity manipulation. 75 hp isnt even a real downsight, just wear armor or hide a beefalo.
Yeah, he's a strong contender for the best character in the game. I main Wicker so I am biased but even I see Maxwell might me even stronger.

The best part is you don’t even need to go insane to mass farm nightmare fuel with him. Just slap down a bunch of bunny huts and you got fuel on tap, which means you got dark swords on tap. As for armor, dreadstone armors are the best for him. That boss can be easily cheesed by Maxwell. Overall, I’d actually rank him over wicker now and equally as good as wurt. But if you plan to rush anything, ANYTHING, Maxwell takes the number 1 spot.

Webber being below average is a bit harsh considering you can go to the caves early game and find tons of spider dens which you can shave for silk. Plus, when you have a spider army, hunger and health are dealt with and sanity becomes more manageable (due to murdering a few spiders). Webber is pretty good, it’s just that you need a bit more maintenance for a base. The one weakness he has in that regard is accidentally punching a den and starting a spider world war
Plus he has a basically infinite supply of monster meat if you cause a spider war

While I understand that you really dislike wortox and his soul mechanics. I don't understand the whole "grinding" souls thing.
Souls:
Souls are actually alot easier to get when you don't focus on them. Most of the time I get them when I'm doing anything else. From butterflies in between twigs, from pigs, so I can get pigskins, from spiders for meatballs. They are literally everywhere.
Also the fact that I can carry my food, and lazy explorer, and heals all in one slot is so nice.
Soul Hopping: Soul hopping/echoing is truly underrated here. The insane amount of time saved going from branch to branch instantly, rather than going around them is bonkers. Not to mention how good it is for events. I can't tell you how many times i was across the map from glommer when a full moon came out.
The best character is you, the player, for having a great taste in video games, never starve my friend!
So Wurt goes on top of the list because she can "basically ignore seasons" but we are not going to acknowledge how much effort goes into getting her seasonal fish? Her setup should be at the bottom of the tier list because of how time consuming it is to collect all her materials, and because of that she simply can't be on top of the tier list. It's not like she comes with all these amazing stats and followers, she needs to work harder than anyone to get it. And she can't get gold from PK and pigs hate her, so pig skins for armor and tapestry are hard to get. Not to mention that you have to go out of your way to simply feed her and not starve first winter - you need to rush lunar island for kelp or stone fruit or do farming. Meanwhile, Warly gets to ignore all seasons just with farming crops, and also excels at combat without needing to build an entire merm city. He might be worse at resource gathering at the beginning of the game but he can get enough for starters with honey crystals very fast, and once you survive till 2nd autumn you get Bearger who easily is the best lumberjack in the game. Wurt army is great for harvesting large quantities of materials for megabase but Maxwell is still better all things considered, if we are talking just megabasing.
Merm King and merm army also need constant maintenance. They need to be fed regularly and king needs to be kept alive. So just like your judgment for Wortox, she can't have all her perks available at all times, they need constant upkeep time, and she needs to do it in both shards. Btw good luck ignoring seasons in the caves where you can't place tin fishing bins 😂
She does need prep time of course but the worst of it it literally the initial fish. You need to really devote 2 maybe 3 days “at most” (when you are first learning) in winter then it becomes easy in summer when you already have the ice bream from winter.

If it seems hard you can easily make regular craftsman then farm pig village a few times to get the pig skin. 3 merms can spank the pigs. This only requires fish which is not hard to get initially. Just go freshwater fishing or let the merms die which would just give more fish. I also break initial stray houses and pig heads.

When you get the merm king you can then advance to the guards. Merm king isn’t hard to feed. You can literally feed him every 7-8 days to be safe. When he hits max then just move on. Even without the mod he tells you when he is about full.

As for the fish she can hold it for 4 days before spoiling. Just come above ground every 3.6 days lol. It’s really not a big deal.

Lastly, I never really needed to but you can just give ocean fish to merms king for gold. It’s not as super easy as the pig king but if you have extra fish when out there you can get the extra gold.
As a wurt main with over 1,000 days world, I've never had a problem with gold. Sure, is not as easy as giving a lot of frazzled wires to pk, but there's plenty, specially in the caves. I tend to have more problems gathering industrial amounts of flint for roads so I farm those + gold at the same time.
On the other hand, fishing is actually pretty easy, you only need a boat, a sea fishing rod, a stick and 1 lure, for both the ice bream and the sunfish, 1 day max if you know what you are doing
@@Danyl-sd7kv I'm familiar with fishing, thanks. You do have to get lucky and get a shoal of seasonal fish spawn to fish it out first. You must not only be in the right season but also in the right kind of ocean (seasonal fish don't spawn anywhere, it has to be swell ocean, which boundaries is sometimes hard to tell from rough or coastal), and they tend to spawn with sharks and gnarwails which will fish in your shoal, steal fish while you're reeling it or attack you during the reel, making you lose both fish and your tackles. It's not impossible, it's just extremely annoying. So much effort when you can just use thermals and moon callers! I would say this shouldn't even count as an impactful perk if you include all the prep it requires. Build a boat, get fishing rods, be at the right place in the right time...This all should be accounted for the setup cost, it's not available right off the spawn. And again, fish is *not* Wurt exclusive perk. Technically any character can do it. Her fish just survives in the inventory longer and gives her a sanity restoring buff.
And of course there's plenty gold in the caves. But again, you'd have to go mine it either yourself (wayy too inefficient) or account prep time for setting up underground merm city. Which won't be available by default the first time you go there.
I'm very divided with Wortox, I really like his perks and can be really good, but the fact that he can't just stack a LOT of souls, but rather have 20 at max, that makes him boring to play, since you're gonna be wasting all the time you save using souls getting them back
I heard stacking up a bunch of bees/killer bees in your inventory to turn into souls at a moment's notice works (I do not have it but i do know that it does work excluding the murder animation

Wortox just destroys wormwood's only downside and let's him make assuming there's a stinger farm so many traps that it could kill any land boss extremely easily it's just
1. Make large bee farm
2. Get stingers
3. Get wortox to heal you while you make living logs
4. Place traps
5. Watch the boss have their health bar dropped to zero in about four seconds depending on the speed of the boss

The Warly one is so f***** up. No way in hell. I main him because he makes boss fights a joke. He makes farming useful. He’s insane with resource gathering because of his dirt cheap honey spice. Moqueca is probably the best food in the game because of how spammable it is. It’s so easy to make. I don’t know what you’re talking abt you must’ve never played Warly before. It’s better to just stick to him than it is to swap to him. That’s why his heat and cold dishes do that. It’s so that you can’t swap to him and still ignore seasons. That’s rediculous
Although i disagree with Wortox being bad, i think hes pretty good, i gotta say he really needs 1 specific buff. The ability to hold more souls. 20 feels like way too small a number and should be increased to at the very least 25 preferably 30 maybe even 40 as 25 and 30 are a weird number cap in dont starve. If 40 feels too strong just nerf the numbers on the souls by a tiny bit. Either that or make souls harder to get and make it just not have a cap.
These buffs wouldnt be because hes bad as i believe hes good. Its just a quality of life buff, too annoying to be limited to 20 and being unable to go past that without getting punished.

Wes deserves a maxed out mobility tier, 5 sanity for a +30-+10% speed boost? Sure it deteriorates over 2 minutes but his early game mobility is genuinely a great benefit.
i disagree completely with the winona take. hses garbage no one wants to play her for the entierty of a world. shes basically wilson pre rework when your not using turrets, and even then, the fact that just anybody can fuel her turrets just basically doesnt even make her valuable to play. whereas warly you have to play him because no one can use your crockpots, or cook his op recipes.

It's certainly a take on it. I have to wonder if you've ever really used her character from day 1 in the first place though. She has a really fun two seasons boss rush in my opinion. If you go to ruins ASAP, and grab a lazy explorer, you can collect rocks for like 8 minutes straight and have enough for like 25 catapults by the end of it.
From then she has a great four bosses sequence of Bee Queen > Toadstool > Shadow Pieces > Ancient Fuelweaver. All of which are ALL doable within ten days of the first one. I'm in agreement as far as catapults, being her only worthwhile mechanic, are not very spectacular despite the considerable strength of them. I just think she's not really as bad as you make it sound.

Spamming pierogi doesn't work, he prefers QUALITY over quantity. There are a bunch of items that heal for 60 hp, and if you use the correct spice, you can heal even more. Warly isn't for lazy people.

I do agree about the crops not being a huge nescesity but they help alot and if you have a warly that just makes him all the better for the team having 20 garden digima jigs worth of farmland (or you can just plant them straight into the ground but you will be unable to fertilize them) and just refusing to leave base because he has a line of juicy berries to turn into rot to heal from
Blooming increases your speed so it's actually amazing in tier 3 bloom you get 20% faster hunger drain and 20% faster movement speed

I also completely disagree with where you put Winona and warly. Warly should be in A tier and Winona should be in C. Jesus Christ you’re so biased it’s insane. Winona is only there to craft the catapults and farming area, and then you never have to play her ever again. Whereas warly, only warly can use his tools. And only warly can cook his specialty recipes. And only he can make his buffs. I think you severely under-appreciate the fact that warly does so much fucking damage with his volt goat jelly, and is able to unleash the true strength of Wolfgang Wigfred and Wanda is absolutely huge value. He can even make a basic character like Wilson do hella fucking damage! EVEN WES BECOMES PRETTY DECENT FOR DAMAGE WITH A WARLY!

For Woody, I think he could benefit from being more like Wilba from Hamlet, so when transformed, you have inventory but can't equip anything. and you can't do more complex tasks such as cooking on a campfire. There could also be a craftable item Woody could wear that prevents transformations. Potentially the materials could be high cost or it's locked behind the moon event so it can't be used early on.

I honestly would say webber is somewhat decent in general, although im somewhat new having only 48 or so hours of playtime because of as he mentioned the drops from spiders and being able to eat monster meat without downsides but you can also get the meat by using meat by taming one, picking them up and then using "murder" meaning more meat, silk, and spider glands which are especially useful to wormwood along with the other spider varients having decent abilities for example warriors/danglers lunging, 4 sec attack cd (1 more than normal spiders) and hp and also (unless its an AOE attack) you can becomes practically immortal by surrounding yourself with nurse spiders due to the cheap switcherdoodle (please note i have not managed to get a spider queen so no nurses) basically my point is
webber is decent overrall, boasting somewhat easy food and silk collection, and for wormwoods, especially useful for healing so you can farther abuse your living log dispenser lol, decent combat due to a variety of soldiers for combat for range, healing, or classic old melee combat along with certain ones being super easy to replace like normal ones into nurses once youve tamed atleast one webber's army gets absolutely decimated by AOE attacks though so i would rank it in either B or C tier

I agree on some parts like Wickerbottom S and Wolfgang+Wigfried in A but even tho I love Wurt and Winona I have to disagree on them. Wurt is more like an A or S- because she can reduce her setup time by alot thanks to merms and easy access to fish but still is outclassed by Maxwell(Which I would put in S+) in the farming, combat and setup aspect. I also would put Winona and Warley both in B or A- because they have very good uses but the setup is annoying and the downsides are too big for what they do.
But despite of my different view I can see why you ranked some characters like you did and look forward to see more content from you, you earned a new subscriber cheers!

I think Wanda's setup should be D. Because you can go in the ruins in first autumn and get 40 thulecite pieces for two heal watch and alarming clock. And if you cool more pieces for additional one or two backtrack watch and MAYBE one heal watch. But I prefer 56 pieces for two heal, alarming clock and backtrack watch. It's enough to be really powerful for the end of your days. Plus you can go in the ruins in summer to be more powerful. And about grinding. I think it's should be B because of high damage(mid-aged - spider two hit, pig 3 hits, old - spider one hit, pig 2 hits) and range of alarming clock.
I want to mention that the archives are exist, so you can get pieces more easily(maybe it's need a little bit of luck)

Unless you can cook it on the spot, or got warly to make his cake that lasts from 6 days to 15, then I dont bother with potatoes. I'd stick with blue mushroom, easier to get early game too via the blue mushroom caves biome.

Cool flywheel! I woud've further divided combat into Bosses vs mobs. I'd rather have Willow and even Wormwood versus a field of spiders or spider queens or late-game hound waves but versus Celestial Champion I'd rather have Wanda 100%.

I like farming food, so the best for the job are Wurt, Wormwood and Wickerbottom for veggies. Wilson, Webber and Wendy for meat.

How is both Wortox and Wurt D at setup when Wurt needs all the prep to get to that level while Wortox only needs like 2 tier 3 spider dens to get full soul? Not counting how he can pretty much get them almost anywhere. You overestimate how hard/time it takes to get souls way too much.
Also his "need to farm double the amount of resources" is bs, if you know what you're doing you actually spend less time gathering food for hunger/health since your souls cover that, and the food you get from farming said souls end up becoming an extra at that.
At max you need to look out for your sanity, considering the existence of the Tam o Shanter, the tent and Potato Puree (pretty much Taffy for him), I don't think it's a big deal at all.
Ok so ill explain how I think the meta is for ME. First of all the fact that most players can't fully agree on tierlists makes DST succesfull in ther balance I suppose?.
The powerful ones are in order from better to worst: Wanda, Wolfgang, Maxwell, Wickerbottom
Strong ones: Woodie, Wendy, Wortox, Wx, Wormwood, Wigfrid
Average: Wilson, Weeber, Wurt
Mediocre: Warly, Winona, Willow
Bad: Walter, Wes.
I believe wanda the Best thanks to her clock being better than any other weapon, even post CC and FW and teleportation being unmatched even if expensive but wolf is close because twice the dmg means half the time killing stuff, consuming les resources like armor weapons and healing as well as the affinity and planar from skilltree allows to kill shadows in less hits than old wanda and use the late game void and brightshade. Maxwell shadow prison is op for cheesing so many bosses and better than woodie collecting resources, good followers, hes more powerful tha wicker bc he can read the books too. Wicker has insane utility and potential but shes tied to being worse than maxwell just because the celestial portal exist and maxwell aoaet form his kit can use wickerbottoms books too.
As someone who plays wx a lot, i highly disagree with the thorns upgrade being a "meme". For bosses where you can't/won't kite anyway, like bee queen or fuelweaver, the extra damage is extremely useful. Give it a try, esp if the bosses are wet, the extra damage can almost rival wandas and wolfgang's, almost being a 75% increase assuning 150 damage every 4 hits

He is S a lot of the best items are from bosses. Wolfgang legit has the best kill time with very little setup or downside.

This is relatively new I know, but absolutely NOBODY thinks that Wilson is the best character to tame beefalos? I mean that with his alchemy branch he can have infinite sticks from wood (with that he can make food that is just for beefalos) making it very easy to fill the beefalo's stomach without worrying too much about the food in general (And yes, I'm main Wilson)
Hmmm I don't know man Wilson is kinda boring for me personally and his ability to transmute is nice but from me playing for 100+ hours I would say I rarely need it but of course this comes from a woodie main who didn't use beefalo or armour or tools anymore😂
I disagree with Wortox being placed c tier and here's why. Wortox has a 50% less sanity drain from other monsters, can heal big groups of people at one time when in a big fight as well as the already mentioned crazy mobility, if all you have to worry about is 50 percent decreased amount of hunger given by food when you could just eat souls which can easily be amassed from a single bee hive. BOOM mic drop
wanda hands down. its so hard to go back to any other characters.
backtrack watches are just convenient saves so much time getting about and then the most powerful weapon with range on it.
Plus the only setup is getting a shadow manipulator and celestial portal and then just changing character a bunch of times for a ton of time pieces

I'd like to point out 3 concerns with this ranking.
Characters are going to be rated extremely differently depending on their circumstances, as in if it's like a full solo run, a world with trusty friends or a quick one season session on public.
Character's mobility is going to be huge factor in new maps, for exploration and being the first to get paid. Once maps, roads and towns are established, they lose their sole benefit...
Summoners far surpass average cast after the set-up grinding. Like Wigfried is a strong day1 option but her QoL / longevity is TERRIBLE by comparism and her damage a joke.
Conversely, I'd put Wolf into S tier. Not since "BIG DAMAGE GUD" but rather because that alone halves the grinding needed for . That's simplistic, yet good QoL.
Lastly, people think Wolf/Wanda damage is good, omegalul. Put down a few Winona turrets and you already eclipsed that. There's no limit to those. No need to gear up. Or heal.
There are plenty options to make farms (ab)using Character's / Minions in this game, also cheese, exploits, foodspam... TL;DR ... for example Wino can automate bosses just like spiders.

Warly should be at higher tier than willow. He can be swap character but at least he has unique recipes and crafts.On the other hand willow has a silly pet and weak torch that can cook foods. Also her advantages from fire is nonsense and not suitable for multiplayer.
I've played the game since 2015 and still haven't tried all characters lol. My favorite is WX, though I preferred the original version, having played Don't Starve (not together) for over 800 hours. I still like the curcuit version and still play them, though in dst I think my favorite is Wickerbottom ;) Those would be my top 2 in terms of playtime. I also like Wigfrid a lot and feel like she gets too much hate. I do think new players should probably opt for other characters to better learn and experience the game but for more advanced players she's a fun mid-tier option. The sanity management is nice and durability and sanity songs can be quite useful once you have darkswords
