Update: I've been wearing my seiko padi edition Samurai for 4 years now. Still works as great as the day i got it, i'm taking it to get a check/service for the crown seals and such.
I have the same watch. The bezel came misaligned, however, i fixed myself. remove bezel. 2. File the two parts on the spring that point up. (Not too much). 3. Bend both spring points back just a little bit. 4. Snap bezel on check for proper alignment. Repeat if necessary. Mine is now perfect.
It’s pretty much the best Samurai review I’ve seen so far. And it made me love this watch even more. It’s unlike any other, it doesn’t try to copy anything else and, most importantly, it manages to do what it’s made for, and that is: to be a perfect everyday watch.
I love this watch got it 2018 it's 2023 now. Great fair Review. I like that you pointed out Seiko's are great it's a matter of preference. On the alignment i feel it's the angle your looking at it. 👍
Just got a samurai mainly because skx's have suddenly got really expensive and monsters are now priced beyond what I want to pay. Expecting a baby tuna in the mail soon and looking forward to comparing them. Good video. I like the bracelets on Seiko divers.
Very nice review Guy - with excellent close ups. Great looking dive watch dial, love the rectangular batton indices, hands, dial texture and lume. Case is polarizing but very interesting at the same time. On larger timepieces - i have come to appreciate the ergonomics and appearance of the 4 o'clock crown That Seiko uses in certain models. Thanks again.
Thanks for watching and for the feedback F Poynton. Glad you liked the review. I've been fortunate enough to have reviewed a lot of Seiko Dive watches now, and in terms of ergonomics, size and style, the SKX is still the one to beat for me.
Just ordered a Samurai. My Seiko dealer had this srpb in store. I like it a lot more than the turtle, because for once I really wanted something with heft and presence. Plus: my 7"3/4 wrist can handle it. He's ordering the srpc93 'Save the ocean' so I can see them side by side. Seiko No4 is coming! (Snfg11, Snkl45, Sarb017 so far) Oh: and an old quartz super beater that just won't die, even after decades of certified abuse.
I've been wearing a Samurai as my daily driver for three years now. I paid $299 for mine, which is the SRPB53 Pepsi version. What I love about it? It doesn't look like it is trying to be something else. It is unashamedly a tool watch. What I don't like so much? The accuracy, or lack thereof. For the first year mine was about a +6-7 second per day watch, which was fine. But after that it went suddenly to -45 seconds per day. Seiko flatly refused to do anything about it, even though it was under warranty. But I ike it well enough that I might try to have it adjusted locally.
may be magnetized, google it, you can buy a demagnetizer for relatively cheap and see if it is. content.watchgang.com/2018/12/20/my-watch-is-running-fast-is-it-magnetized-2/
I feel this pin and collar us significantly easier to adjust when compared to the turtle as it's collar is in the protruding part of the link and will not fall out when you are pushing the pin in the link
I will most surely buy this watch i almost bought the orange in color Samurai but I passed go for the Orient Triton Neptune blue . Good review thank you.
I bought the Turtle because when I tried out the SKX, it wore almost like a ladies watch on my wrist. But my daily beater is a Mako XL. I like the esthetics of it better than the Turtle for some reason. I also have a Ray 2, which doesn't enjoy much wrist time. The only thing I don't like with the samurai is the case, but I love the bezel, dial, hands, indeces, even the crown. Give it a more classic looking case and a day complication, I'd probably salivate over it... LOL You're on the right path if you buy a watch that makes you happy, not others. Beauty is subjective after all... Cheers!
Hey Carlo, thanks for watching. I'm glad you found a watch you like in the Turtle. I like it as well but for me the SKX is a better size and shape. The Mako and the Ray are both great choices as well. I reviewed the Ray 2 a while back and I liked that watch quite a lot.
I got a Royal Oak Off Shore Panda and I own a samurai as well !!!! I just love the Samurai amazing underpriced watch .... I wear it all the time , i also have Rolex GMT but then again the Samurai is my favorite
SEIKO SAMURAI AND MONSTER are indeed very unique in their designs and look , not like most diver watches which are variants homage of submariners and fifty fathoms
You thought Transformers when looking at this watch - I thought Cylons (original Battlestar Galactica era). LOL Went out & bought one (the black & gold version; loved the PVD case). Really nice watch & definitely find it wears smaller than its measurements. The waffle dial looks great. My first one - misaligned bezel & off-center crown. Took it back & exchanged for a 2nd one - spot on perfect on both counts.
I bought one of these (the 053) and to my surprise the chapter ring is perfectly aligned! To my chagrin, however, I found (upon inspection under loupe) a blue brush hair which is hiding between lines of text on the dial face. It is completely invisible to the naked eye. Oh, Seiko.
JustBlueFish Watch Reviews , thank you for sharing your grandfathers story it is awesome. I noticed the folded flag on your desk and was curious . Thanks again .
As a fine jewelry sales associate that sells a range of major watch brands including Seiko, Casio, Citizen, Bulova, Timex, etc. it's my observation that we sell maybe one Seiko, for every maybe ten Invictas, most all of which could be considered entry level dive style watches. I might be seeing through a knothole and missing the bigger picture here, but I question if we can factually say that Seiko is necessarily the leader of entry level divers among the general public?
When I said Seiko was the king of the entry level divers, I meant in terms of quality. The general public will buy whatever they best marketing guys tell them to buy, but without a Seiko makes the widest range of quality divers in the segment. They'd probably sell more if they spent more on marketing. You can't even find most of the Seiko's I mentioned in a typical mall jewelry store. The dressy quartz Seiko's from the "Core" line are all I ever see at major department stores.
As I mull over the reply, it raises a thought. In my experience, Seikos are generally robust, but like any brand, they can and do break down or have QC issues and certainly cut corners here and there. Just tonight I had a customer who has two Seikos, one auto five years old, one solar two years old, and both are not working. Warts-n-all I believe their visibility in the marketplace is just fine when you factor in the internet. Upon further reflection, I am now starting to wonder to what extent the internet cult following is influenced by marketing algorithm. I did not start out a Seiko fan, but I became one pretty quick when I began clicking the available watch review options on youtube. Was that all just me/us?
Just purchased the Samurai Zimbe9, gorgeous watch. Dial marker is alittle different, and it has date magnifier. Will be waiting for its arrival from thailand.
I own a Sumo now just got a little over two weeks ago . I wish I had the same desire or excitement for this watch and even the turtle that I do the Sumo. It’s definitely a great Seiko diver but not wowed by the case design of this watch .
Can you tell me the difference between the model SRPB51 and the 'J1' model? I know you covered the J and K model, but where do the watches with neither specified fall on the line up? Thanks!
tried the black one on in a jewellers and it just about fitted my wrist but it made me wonder how much better it would be if it were just 2 or 3 mm smaller.
Thanks Bluefish. You are upping your reviews by putting more words into less time. Not easy I'm sure, but I appreciate it. Good content too. Doesn't the Samurai take a node from Audemars Piguet Royal Oak in the way the it has that drastic down-slope from case to lugs. Just saying. Thanks
Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it. You're right, not only does the dial have that AP texture but the lugs do have a sort of Royal Oak feel to them with the steep downward slope. Good pickup.
I had a Blue Lagoon Samurai which I kept 6 months and sold just didn't wear it. Think looks better in the pics then in person. The case would have been better with crisp sharp angles similar to the Shogun or Sumo so the case finishing really let's it down. I hope to get a Shogun in it's place as already have a Sumo which has amazing case work for the price.
I was strongly considering buying a Shogun a while back before I got my heart set on getting a Submariner. I'm still interested in it but I don't think I can spend the money on something with so much overlap with the Submariner right now. I'm saving up for a Speedmaster, I gotta keep my eye on the prize.
If I were to buy a Seiko diver it would be a Samurai. There a couple excellent $1000+ ones as well but if I were to spend that much I would probably get an Oris Aquis.
Good review. Only thing I would do differently during editing is try to cut out points where you repeat yourself. Might help keep the reviews feeling more relevant, immediate, and succinct. Otherwise food job, especially your close ups!
JustBlueFish Watch Reviews Also, I just want to say that your reviews are tremendous. Your attention to detail trumps most of the other guys. I love your review of the SNE435, and I pulled the trigger because of it. Thanks!
JustBlueFish Watch Reviews I pick it up tomorrow! I'm excited. I would have gone with the SRPB49 but I want the limited edition PADI, and I would rather own a quartz movement over mechanical. Anyway seeing yours up close really helped! Thanks again.
Three weeks in, I'm pretty happy. No material drift in accuracy (still within +/- 1 second). Lume is up to Seiko quality. People already giving it the "hey that thing is nice" comments. Bezel is gorgeous - I love the ceramic-looking matte finish, and my bezel lines up perfectly with hour tickers. Feels lighter and not as bulky as it looks in photos. Also found a replacement bracelet on eBay for dirt cheap, so I snagged it, just in case I need to replace it someday. My favorite feature is how the hour markers are slightly lifted off the main dial, as if they're on a shelf all by themselves. I haven't explored it with a loupe yet, but I'm guessing that shelf effect will look really cool at 10x. Cons - drilled lugs stand out a bit more than I thought they would, and the polished steel is tough to keep free of smudging. I know I bought a replacement strap, but it does feel a bit cheap, but Seiko always cuts corners on straps/bracelets, so it's not terribly unexpected (Seiko my favorite brand, BTW). Currently saving up for either the brown Seiko Presage Cocktail, or wait out Mark at Long Island Watch to release his next run of domed sapphire SKX007s... I'm thinking of waiting out the latter, but if he takes too long, I'll wind up with the Presage.
So far that Seiko 5 has impressed me. I'll have a review of it coming in the near future. I'm glad I was finally able to find one to borrow, I've alway suspected it was a good high value option.
Current Amazon price, $390.00. Lack of quality control are a no go for me at close to $400.00. Keep settling for....it is what it is and that's what you'll get. I like this watch better than Seiko likes it's customers.
Guy u are great at speaking and I like you vocabulary. Awesome detailed review with excellent close ups. I had little interest in this watch when I looked at it on the Seiko website. When I saw it in person at the store, I fell in love with it. Your comparisons to the other models are a great choice.
Very good review. This looks like a reliable dive watch that's well worth the money. I, however, do not like the styling at all and it is for this reason alone that I would not purchase this watch. And that kind of bugs me because I really like Seiko watches generally.
Yeah I feel like it's probably a polarizing design. I'm sure there are those that love it and those that don't. I would guess there isn't a lot of middle ground though. It's a nice watch in terms of features and quality but the design doesn't entirely work for me either.
colinsnexus Good info to know. I just think there are other dive watches at this price point that I would buy before this one. I've also heard from others confirming your comment about the excessive rigidity of the bezel.
J version is better than the K version Samurai in my limited experience. I have one of each and the J keeps better time. Could just be pot luck, but I like to think not !!!!
You are right, the case shape has a transformer, robotic look which Japanese can never come out. Look at a Tissot case in similar price range and then you can differentiate the Swiss and Japanese artwork. Japanese still needs to learn from the Swiss for case making and make movements like ETA.
Really disappointed this watch doesnt came with a 6r movement nor a sapphire crystal. Seiko used to have the best value in the mid-end range but now it barely compares to its competitors. Really overrated and overlooked imo
JustBlueFish Watch Reviews that is good to know. Long ago I owned an SKX007 loved the style but not hacking killed my OCD. I’m sure someone on the interweb changes movements and sells them.
I've been wearing a seiko Samurai Padi edition daily for the past 2 years now, best buy I've ever made!
Update: I've been wearing my seiko padi edition Samurai for 4 years now. Still works as great as the day i got it, i'm taking it to get a check/service for the crown seals and such.

Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it.
That's exactly my samurai, and i love that watch so much.

The bracelet is pin and collar, it can be difficult to resize but is very secure and have never had a problem with it.
I strongly agree about the SKX bracelet. It could be better, but it’s so comfortable!
Wearing my SKX009 on the standard Jubilee as we speak. It works and it feels good, even if it does seem a little cheap at times.
Just got a samurai mainly because skx's have suddenly got really expensive and monsters are now priced beyond what I want to pay. Expecting a baby tuna in the mail soon and looking forward to comparing them. Good video. I like the bracelets on Seiko divers.

I love how they managed to misalign the chapter ring AND the bezel 😍
As would lot of people say, if it is aligned,it's not original🙂
I got rob lol my padi samurai is actually align ..hope its real
I love my Samurai SRPB53 Pepsi. Awesome watch.
Thanks for watching I appreciate it.

JustBlueFish Watch Reviews I like the Ray 2 as well, but the size is a bit small for me. I have 7.5 inch and is wide-oval shaped.

Thanks for watching I appreciate it.

I've never watched Battlestar, but I see where you're coming from on that.
Excellent review. The "transformers" design is actually the angles of a Samurai Sword- and Samurai dress/headgear.
I bought one of these (the 053) and to my surprise the chapter ring is perfectly aligned! To my chagrin, however, I found (upon inspection under loupe) a blue brush hair which is hiding between lines of text on the dial face. It is completely invisible to the naked eye. Oh, Seiko.
Well if you were so inclined it's not hard to pop out the caseback and pull the movement out and blow the brush hair away.
Awesome content thanks !
Love the Flag on your desk.
I recently purchased a Seiko Samurai and it’s pretty awesome .
Thanks TIMEFORFUN. I appreciate you watch and the comments. The flag was from my grandfathers funeral a few years ago, he was a WWII veteran.
JustBlueFish Watch Reviews , thank you for sharing your grandfathers story it is awesome.
I noticed the folded flag on your desk and was curious . Thanks again .
Anytime and thank you as well.
Nice review... Very tempted to get it. It is on the top of my list of next watch list.
Thanks for watching.

Sorry I don’t know if there’s a difference off the top of my head I’d have to have a chance to look at them.
JustBlueFish Watch Reviews Do you think the J and K are collector shenanigans? When the 51 is the same?
One thing for sure, "J" version has much better resale value.
SRPB51 without "K" or "J" is designated for US market and authorized US dealer to sell. "J" is Japan version.
tried the black one on in a jewellers and it just about fitted my wrist but it made me wonder how much better it would be if it were just 2 or 3 mm smaller.
I think the size is pretty good, but I wouldn't have complained if it were a touch smaller.
Good review. I love my samurai!
Thanks I appreciate it. Enjoy the Sammy.

My favorite diver's Seiko hands down.👍?
How about a weight srpb49k1?
If I were to buy a Seiko diver it would be a Samurai. There a couple excellent $1000+ ones as well but if I were to spend that much I would probably get an Oris Aquis.
I haven't seen an Oris in person yet, I'm not sure if there is an AD near me or not. I hear great things about them I'd like to have a closer look.
I like the case design
I know lots of people are fans of it.
Would love to know where you are able to buy an SRPB49 for the price you stated. There isn't one on the internet for less than £380... which is $473!
This video's 2 years old. Prices change over time, and I haven't been following them lately, but that's what they were going for in early 2018.
Did you notice the few misaligned indices? My one is the same.
No I didn't notice that but I'm not entirely surprised, Seiko is the king of misalignment.
The lume on the Samurai is among the absolute best in business.
Seiko does lume well.
Indeed. I have the Pepsi variant and absolutely love the way it fits..even on my 6.75 inch wrist.
I have the same sized wrist and I think it wears on the wrist well. It is a bit heavy, but not excessively so, but the size works pretty well.
Excellent review!
Nicely done review
For a close up the texture of the dial is very blurred
Isn’t steinhart under 500 not entirely sure what’s it costs in the states
They're right around $500 depending on the model.
Good review. Only thing I would do differently during editing is try to cut out points where you repeat yourself. Might help keep the reviews feeling more relevant, immediate, and succinct. Otherwise food job, especially your close ups!
Thanks for watching I appreciate it.
JustBlueFish Watch Reviews Also, I just want to say that your reviews are tremendous. Your attention to detail trumps most of the other guys. I love your review of the SNE435, and I pulled the trigger because of it. Thanks!
Awesome how’s the Seiko treating you?
Nice review as usual, I like the Seiko 5 a nice entry diver.
Nice watch, but no sapphire crystal prevent me of bying one. Too bad.
Not many entry level Seiko watches feature sapphire.
you can easily buy an aftermarket one and have it installed if its that important to you
Anyone tried if this can fit well on a 7.7 inch wrist?
I’m sure it does.
Guy u are great at speaking and I like you vocabulary. Awesome detailed review with excellent close ups. I had little interest in this watch when I looked at it on the Seiko website. colinsnexus Good info to know. I just think there are other dive watches at this price point that I would buy before this one. I've also heard from others confirming your comment about the excessive rigidity of the bezel.
Are they accurate in time? Planning to buy my first automatic.
i wonder why they released so many different blue samurai versions
Special edition "Save the oceans"
Can this watch be changed to rubber strap ?
I immediately put mine on a Crafter Blue curved end , fitted rubber strap.
J version is better than the K version Samurai in my limited experience. I have one of each and the J keeps better time. Could just be pot luck, but I like to think not !!!!

Really like the design but was put off by the quality of case finishing. The brushing and mirror finish scream poor quality.
The finish is on par for a watch in this price range.
@@JustBlueFish i wished Seiko had done a bit more. Just a little more and we have the Sumo.
I love it , its like a rolex hhh
Thanks for watching.
Thank you for not putting a day!
Thanks for watching.
I see urs is made in Japan.
Like the bezel, hand wind and hack. Don’t like the case and the chapter ring looks mis-aligned to me. I wish the SKXs hacked...
People put 4r36 movements in their SKX watches to get hand winding and hacking. I haven’t done it but it’s possible.
JustBlueFish Watch Reviews that is good to know. Long ago I owned an SKX007 loved the style but not hacking killed my OCD. I’m sure someone on the interweb changes movements and sells them.
Nay bad
A future collectable,as no one will buy it becouse it is so ugly.
haha, thanks Larry.
