SUPERB video - so useful to see a video at this technical level, where the interactions of the material + stitching is clearly set as the key factor. Packed with great info by-example this must be the very best video I've seen for those such as myself that have finally got to grips with the very basics of digitising, hooping and all machine-functions etc... I really, really am grateful to you for putting this gem 'out there' for us all free for all to watch!
👍👍🙂Many thanks for an excellent presentation.

Thank you. I’m currently taking your online class and noticed how similar this is to one of your lessons. With that in mind, I was already planning my sequence of digitizing, after you first showed the design. My goal is to learn to digitize ”production friendly” designs so I can be the most efficient, and profitable while the machine is running.
Thank you for sharing your techniques.

This was amazing. I've read your book and have watched your videos and was impressed how you continued the conversation while making corrections to the design. I can tell digitizing is in your blood.

I just had my PhD completed feeling without actually knowing the reason of my thesis. Results matter. It was very tiring to realise that once a beginner masters this process, he is going to tire himself more doing it. Great Artist you are Mr. John

May I ask, is there a difference in making several clicks when digitizing a curve than to make fewer clicks and adjusting the handles? I hope I said that correctly to be understood, I know everyone learns differently and the verbiage my may be different. Thank you in advance.

With Hatch the nodes are defined by straight and curved commands, they don’t function the same way as traditional graphics nodes with handles do.

Thank you very much for the wonderful information
This is Rehab from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Follow with enthusiasm. I have a question
Why do you walk with the traveling thread on the edges? Why do you not cross directly from the bottom to the top? Since the traveling thread is in the first layer, it will be hidden, in order to shorten the time and consumption of the thread.

Great stack of information and helpful to a descriptive sense, but here are my issues with this topic and not being able to get my borders aligned right with my designs. First off to set a desciprtive background to the problem, most of my designs will be anime, given tht not all of my images are easy to tell when to exaggerate on such turns or angles to take in consideration on the push n pull. He gets a 100% perfect outlined border to his design in this video bc he has been working with such concepts for a long time, how is someone new to such things going to be able to see where to go further into the design or out for a perfect border? I've been on one design for too long bc I simply can't tell or how to place a perfect border to my designs, this video talks about it yes n even shows but i feel as if the concept he used here are for pro level digitizers.! please anyone have any tips or tricks?

Keep practicing in simple designs and push and pull applies to the top and sides of designs research more on push and pull images , for example if your digitizing a rectangle , you would compensate for push and pull by digitizing the top and bottom of the rectangle on the insides because the stitches will push it out to your desired end result and for the sides you’d compensate by digitizing the lines by going over the border line because they will pull in , for any complicated shapes within your design you want to always keep in mind regular basic shapes and see what the shape of what your digitizing may be similar to and add the same technique , & trial and error on simple designs don’t forget .

Also for what he’s doing if you separate the bird and compare each part to regular shapes it would be mainly ovals on the wings so what he’s doing over and over again is push and pull for that type of shape ,also diagonal lines he didn’t compensate for only up and down and side to side lines because those get messed with by “ push and pull “ when you really understand what’s going on it all makes sense , idk if you get what I’m saying because it makes sense in my head based on my understating but once you understand push outwards ( side to side ) and pull inwards ( top and bottom ) and how it applies to different shapes and how those shapes come together to make say your anime character then you can apply those techniques for the shapes to the complex group of shapes aka your character .

Well explained. But why can't the title bar be seen? Is it a hacked version of Hatch or is it already version 4. Furthermore, this file P00185.EMB that was available for download is not a very good one, the emb format is not from Wilcom, it is used as a type- Displayed at grade D and therefore very difficult or impossible to edit in Wilcom_Software. I work with the Bernina Designer software version 9. BG from Germany Bernd

Hello, we don't show the top bar within Hatch in our videos as it shows the users email address. We cover it to protect Johns privacy :)
That would be a very old design created on a Digitrac and was outputted originally on paper tape. Our company has been creating designs longer than Wilcom has been in business, it was converted to emb. Thanks for watching!
