I did this method on my Honda civic 2006 on a small section and it worked. It has been holding up for 5 years and now I am doing to do the rest since it was originally a small area I painted. FYI I use Matt rustoleum spray paint and for 5 years and counting it held up well.

I live in the SoCal desert and had the same problem on my 2010 LX. After replacing the door frame belts (that's what Honda calls them), the actual door frames were looking awful. After researching I decided to wrap them instead of painting. I bought gloss black wrap off of Amazon and it was very easy to apply after prepping the surface as you show here. You just apply it and trim off the excess. It's been six months through the heat of summer and the wrap is holding up good.

That’s a great idea! I’ll definitely do that once this paint starts to fade lol

You know that vinyl black tape just peels off, right? Use a heat gun, a plastic scraper, and some Goo-Gone to peel it all off.
The car paint color is underneath. You can buy replacement OEM pre-cut "sash tape" from Honda (about $20/door) or just buy some 3M blackout tape or vinyl wrap.

After all these years I still find myself watching, Even when the videos do not relate to me in any way 🤷‍♀️😂 I will say it is interesting to see you "restore" your car.

You’ve been watching since the beginning 🤗 I really appreciate that you watch even when it doesn’t relate to you lol. You’ve supported me for many year, so thank you for that 😊

I keep watching these videos because we bought a used 2011 for my son with this issue. Everyone is sanding and painting. I "think" those door trim sash pieces are stickers, right? Can't you remove with a heat gun and then get new tape from Honda?

Marcus - do you spend hours researching each project because you always seem to know 100% how to do the tasks you perform. Great job videoing, and using the box lid to prevent over spray is nothing but pure genious. Bravo for that. I have a newer Honda that I just bought in November and I need to de-chrome the window trim because I have blacked out everything else on the car. This video is great timing and a gives me a lot to think about. I was thinking vinyl wrap but now I might follow your example just spray paint it black. Thanks for posting this - I appreciate it.

Thank you! Yeah, I actually do a bit of research before starting each project. Yeah, you could definitely vinyl wrap the chrome, it might be easier in my opinion. I'm actually going to be vinyl wrapping my entire car soon, which will be interesting because I've never done it before.
I'm glad you enjoy my videos! I appreciate your feedback and support!

Nice job! I have the same car with the same issue. I think this was a bad design for Honda with whatever paint they used for the trim, after awhile it fades and flakes off.

Thank you! Yeah, I’ve noticed a few bad designs on this model, but I don’t mind learning how to fix them.

That stuff is just vinyl wrap. All I did was peel mine off and it was the same color of the car underneath

You can buy new trim tape from Honda. It's a lot of work to do properly though.

Still looks good! But If I were to do it again, I would just wrap it. Easier and will last longer.
