100% disagree. Should have been a quick cameo like Schwartz or Holzman, their extended cameo, references to their previous portrayal of the characters, and meeting and literal caressing of Ariana and Cynthia took me completely out of the movie. My suspension of disbelief completely shattered in that scene, which is really sad, because I love the stage version of One Short Day. There is not a single world in which Idina should have done the Defying Gravity climax.
@@frederalbaconand I disagree on the extended. I wasn’t particularly impressed with the movie, I guess for my personal lack of enthusiasm towards both Grande and Erivo.

I like how the extra bits in 'One short day' with Idena and Kristen that when you listen to it first, you do think the prophecy is talking about Oz but once you see what happens afterwards and then listen afterwards you then know who it's really talking about and also showing their future as well
The movie was incredible!!! Seen the show 5 times on Broadway. From the minute that downbeat of the Overture hit to the end, I was bawling, So awesome in the way they expanded a lot of things plus taking bits from the book. Loved hearing all the Wizard of Oz easter eggs. They did it so well!!! There was applause after every song. Now I cannot wait to get my ticket to see the film again, going for ROUND 6 to see it again on Broadway!!! Kristin and Idina's cameo...... goosebumps!!! The Poppy spell on the classroom was really cool. So different vs. what people know from the stage version. In the stage show, "Elphaba" casts a full spell that causes all the students and everyone in the classroom to have Seizures in saving the Lion Cub's life.
Has anyone mentioned that they totally did away with the Clock of the Time Dragon? It was a weird element in the book and the big backdrop for the stage musical. I never really fully understood it and I was glad that they skipped it for the movie.
I won’t lie, I loved this movie. But there is a change I didn’t agree with: Boq’s last name. In both the book and musical, it is a tragic surprise who Boq becomes, that builds up over the course of the story. And considering Boq was originally a separate character in the original Baum books, it works as a surprise. Honestly if they had just gave Fiyerio and Boq more scenes showing their friendship, it would actually lined up better for Part 2.
Tbf, unless you've watched the musical I think it would've flown over most people's heads. I watched the musical and even I didn't catch that foreshadowing until I saw this video.
Not a fan of Ariana, but love Cynthia. Hadn't seen many previews, so I went in expecting to say "it was okay". I was SOOO wrong. This movie is breathtaking and beautiful💚
The political salience of the narrative is so heartbreaking. I cried in the theatre thinking of the people that the country I live in is helping to murder en masse in Palestine, Lebanon, Iran… and anyone who speaks up against this can lose their jobs, is painted as an antisemite (even when they are Jewish)… it’s so depressing that this is the world we live in. I saw someone on instagram relating elphaba to Kamala Harris and even Jon Chu said something like that in an interview and I was so disgusted. This is the same woman who said “I’m speaking” over Palestinian activists and then made it a branded catch-phrase. Americans need to wake up and realize that BOTH parties are “the wizard.”
Dont worry there is a cease fire that will stop all those poor innocent Palestinians from being attacked..... Oh wait there a a cease fire on Oct 6th of last year too and something happened? What was it again?
Well the play is 2 hours and 45 minutes long and part one of the movie is 2 hours and 40 minutes long so there was bound to be a lot more things added in.
I hope they plan to go the extra mile and cover the rest of the story. ** Prequel The real story of the Wizard arriving in Oz-something more authentic than that 2013 film. - When sentient animals still roamed in abundance, as mentioned in Wicked. - Explore the drought that Elphaba referenced. - Include hints or even an actual encounter with the Nome King as he harvests emeralds for his city. ** Dorothy - A remake of her tale with added perspective from what we now know through Wicked. ** Witch of the East With the limited portrayal of the Wicked Witch of the East in the original film, there’s plenty of room for writers to expand on the events leading up to and following the tornado. A whole new conversation may take place here. Or even the event may differ - Were they all already in Munchkinland, engaged in some kind of argument or conflict before the tornado struck? Or did Elphaba arrive after the incident, drawn by the news of what happened to her sister? as depicted in the old film. - Imagine the moment when Elphaba sees a young girl wearing the slippers-her sister’s only tangible legacy. Stricken with a mix of anger and guilt, she demands the slippers back, insisting they’re useless to Dorothy and that only she knows how to wield their power. Yet, beneath her fury lies a deep, sentimental attachment to the slippers, tied to her grief over Nessarose’s loss. However, with no real understanding of the larger situation and given her young age, Dorothy would understandably be terrified. She might misinterpret Elphaba’s intentions, seeing her as more threatening than she truly is. ** Return to Oz (Sequel) The invasion of the Nome King. With the Wizard overthrown, the Nome King reclaims the emeralds stolen from his land. Is the Wizard still in Oz, perhaps in exile? Will Dorothy, now older and more mature, get the chance to meet the real Elphaba? What of the Scarecrow? Is he still turned to stone, or did he leave to stay with Elphaba after the fall of the Emerald City? 🙇🏻♂
