Probably the most accurate mental ever, you can just feel her diaphragm, this is how I was taught to sing. It's just unusual at this level that she doesn't pull back some to make it not sound so click clack. I find her to be highly impressive and unbelievably talented, but definitely unique
Kudos also to pianist/conductor Eugene Kohn. A born accompanist. For this George London medical care fundraiser concert both Horne and Sutherland take the briefest of bows and then walk over to Kohn and insist he bow with them. He somehow makes the piano sound like an orchestral score and knows every aspect of what the singer is likely to do - when they breath, when they want to stretch the tempo, when to accellerando - the whole bag of tricks. Both ladies are beaming at his true collaboration.
Pretty sure I read in her bio that she sang soprano parts, incl, I think, "Un bel di" as an audition piece. Much as I love her mezzo "cluck-a-tura," I'd love it if she could hold some of them high notes, as she nails them perfectly!
@@susanlandsman9572 Yes, I think that's so. See my previous remark from a year ago. I once escorted to her car in the rain after a recital at Yale U in the later 80's. It was worth waiting back stage! I've even been to her small museum in her original hometown of Bradford PA.

I read that she first started when she was young as a soprano.
