Portland's own 4449 steam train on the the run in Washington State. This video covers coming an going in June 2011 plus some older footage shoot back in 2007.
This is a reason why I love train, the clanking of metal against the wheels, the roaring whistle and the chuffing of steam racing past your face, such a wonderful feeling
The video was shot in different angles. My favorite part is where the senior citizens are waving at the train passing by. You can’t get enough of loving trains.
@@kishascape Why did you even come on here anyway, if you have nothing good to say about anyone? They appear to be quite happy and from their ages, it wouldn't be a surprise that they actually rode that train when it ran its schedule. So stop critiquing people because they found a bit of happiness. It doesn't look good on you.
We road the 4449 The Christmas Express last weekend of November 2019. My 7 year old loves trains more than anyone i know. I am positive he will be working on a railroad one day. His knowledge of trains is beyond his years. He is extremely heart broken the E2 tank engines were all scrapped, but thankfully they live on forever through Thomas the Tank Engine.
That's wonderful and sad too. I also rode the Holiday Express, twice, in 2021 and 2022 as of this comment, and visited the center countless times. It's wonderful to know there's more intrested railfans out there.
Not really. It was average. 1080p been out since 98 and there were already decent priced consumer cameras doing 1080p at that time. I still have my 3CCD HDD camera from that time, works too good still.
The Daylight Express is the Queen on Rails. She looks very pretty and the Old Lady is very, very fast. You hear her Whistling? She is Screaming how fast and pretty She is. Steam Locomotives have a Soul. Every Steampunch,Every Whistle Sound you see her Live.
Great video of two amazing Steam Engines! I've always wondered, though, why they SP didn't initially equip the 4449 with Roller Bearing trucks on the engine and tenders, or upgrade them at a later date, the UP 844, 3985 and 4014 are all set up on Roller Bearings, a lot more reliable, far less maintenance, less prone to overheating and just better overall.
@FaZe Gamer4Life if a crap load of water is used as a primary source of power to its pistons driving the drive wheels via Main rod/Connecting rod Side rods/Coupling rods , Valve gear/motion with use of various Pilot truck/Leading bogie Wheels and big driver wheels and its not driven by electrical energy from an powered generator (or external power) wheel trucks then its a real all the way steam engine lol.

4449's boiler actually runs on diesel fuel because the next coal mines were too far away . It was cheaper to use diesel than to get coal from 1000 miles away. Burning diesel fuel is the reason 4449 doesn't belch dark smoke.
I took it of Smart Sound audio service that I use and I think this is one I used Sandy Boys Composer Ben Winship that may help you or not I always like to have no issues with rights so I use Smart Sound a lot.
Morbid Mansion I was told SP 4449's cars are split up and owned by different people and the last time she had all her cars was on a trip around 1991 - 1993
Amtrak provides the HEP for the cars and rents the cars to the excursions so there are more seats. 4449 can't make electricity for the cars on here own. 261 and 611 have combine cars that have a generator in them. Also, Amtrak has the insurance to cover excursions and the experience in passenger service (the insurance is the big reason the other Class 1's are really only doing steam excursions that are run under the Amtrak umbrella and insurance).
I had to settle this argument in the past about WHY a P42 was on the train... Because Amtrak partly sponsored the run and has insurance for passenger service. The P42 is put in the lash-up to provide the 3 phase AC HEP that modern coaches require to operate. An Added bonus is the P42 can hep with keeping the train under control more efficiently with it's dynamic brakes so there is no major wear on the steam locomotives brake or wheels. The locomotives have steam driven dynamos that were for HEP and powering headlights and marker lamps, but they only provide about 90 volts AC, which was fine back in the days when 4449 ran the main daily because back then the coaches only needed power for lighting, Air Conditioning was not a thing on trains yet in fact if you needed air you opened a window, Heating was powered by steam from the locomotive. Same for cooking in the diner cars, all mostly steam heated. Today's coaches have electric heaters, and air conditioning. A private coach may have added features like a kitchen that is all electric (Bottled gas is not very safe being used in that environment), AC mains sockets for TV sets, radio, computers , etc..
That is one of the most beautiful Locomotives ever built IMHO.
Some railroads, during steam travel days, created iconic trains which showed the pride they had for their company and appreciation of their customers.
This is a reason why I love train, the clanking of metal against the wheels, the roaring whistle and the chuffing of steam racing past your face, such a wonderful feeling
I know.

Came here to see some of my beloved steam pullin engines and ended up seein one of my favorites - 844. What a neat surprise. Almost had a steamgasim.

it's not 100% steam locomotive,it runs on diesel oil
huh??? you need to burn something to heat the water to make steam. so it burns oil.
That is what i sed its not 100% steam loco well it is
a stem loco
