    Great video mate. This is probably the best visual explanation of a manual transmission and clutch assembly I've ever seen.
    Camera work is spot on too.

    Just FYI Andrew. I got a sleeve and bearing kit from a machinist in Perth for damaged snout on my 6sp manual 2008 prado. He charged $500 for kit including new thrust bearing. Had thrust bearing fail on an outback trip and the closest fab and mechanic place that fixed it for me said they couldn't make up a sleeve and JUST the bellhousing direct form Toyota was $1700 (8 week wait too) So here I am back home pulling out the gearbox again to do the job properly. Will let you know if it works, but the machinist was pretty confident. Done to his own Prado.

      That would have been good to know 3 years ago! At 400,000km I had an engine tune in my '08 6sp manual Prado. The local mechanic was running a promotion doing an engine tune with a HD clutch upgrade but when he pulled my gearbox off he found that the thrust bearing was cocking sideways and he wasn't willing to put it back together as it was. Apparently the gearbox casing was molded in one piece (on mine at least?), a new casing was $1800 then the whole gearbox had to be unpacked and refitted in the new casing. Needless to say, a $2500 deal for the engine tune and clutch turned into $5k and a gearbox rebuild. Nearly 2 years ago I organised a 4wd trip with some mates in the High Country and tried to tow a snorkel-less Hilux across a flooded river. With the dead weight behind me I got stuck midstream with water over the bonnet and up to the bottom of the seats in the cab before old mate in the Hilux managed to get himself started and drag me out backwards. The gearbox, tranny and both diffs were full of water and it cost me an alternator, a starter motor and hours stripping out the cab to dry it. Now with 450,000kms on the clock I've thrown 6th gear (apparently towing in 6th isn't smart and I can't even blame my brother) and the thrust bearing is making some noise. The mechanic said his suppliers can't even get a hold of casings to rebuild the gearbox so I've stepped out and bought a second hand gearbox from a wrecker and am wondering about installing it with a mate's help. Having watched this video I'm a lot more confident to tackle it and also curious to see how much crap is in the bell housing after that river crossing... Thanks @Fourby4Diesel for the content!

      Hi, if possible would you have the contact details for the machinist chap in Perth re the re-sleeve job as my clutch thrust bearing has worn out the sleeve near completely. 2014 GXL Prado 28:50

    That is correct, the two clutch bearings only are in use when your foot is on the clutch. That makes a lot of sense since you don't want those spinning when you are driving, you will wear them out very fast.

    This vehicle has the smaller 260mm clutch if I am not mistaken.
    I recently upgraded my 2008ish 1kd Fortuner to the 275mm clutch.
    Flywheel needs to be cut bigger to accept the larger clutch and the rest fits and bolts up, even the pressure plate bolts up.

    Lots of good info in this. I am about to do my 2005 prado that has done 378000km as far as I know it is the origional clutch. It will be interesting to see what it looks like inside that bell housing once I get the box out.

    Great video, (my 2014 Prado GXL) After viewing the video it's seems I've resolved a squealing noise coming from the thrust bearing or a dry shaft which you were talking about. Not sure if I should have done this although the high squealing noise being produce from when I used the clutch was driving crazy and I was so far away from a mechanic shop. I've sprayed WD40 and Lanolin spray into the thrust bearing area which seems to of stopped the noise to date. I've been having some drama with my clutch for some time now and basically thinking its possible all from a failing thrust bearing or possibly something else. .......

    Why is a Spigot bearing being used when there is no Spigot on the Input Shaft

    A few thousands wear on that pivot ball makes a huge difference in the pedal engagement hight.

    Will that spigot bearing ever need replacement it looks like the end of the input shaft is missing, don't think it ever turns?

    Hi mate, i have a 2014 hilux d4d with 220k, and the clutch its stiff like hell, no other simpotoms for a worn clutch. I just bleed it and its the same. What do you think it is ? master cylinder, slave cylinder ? Thanks in advance.

    Yes, sitting at the lights, the input shaft to the transmission and end engine spin at different speeds but all that end thrust goes onto the crankshaft thrust bearings, so I wonder what wear is going on there?

    All Prado 150 3.0 got a solid flywheel ?
    Or some of them has dual mass flywheel

    Hi guys you said 10 year old and preventive. Couple of comments studlock torque flywheel. Sure I saw 3 water core plugs your thoughts on replacing them when gearbox out ?. Very good video otherwise.
