so straight forward - no ego, just generous thorough clear instruction - fantastic.
Thanks for the kind words and for watching!
UptempoMusicLessons one second, what’s the red pedal for eruption called?
@@thepubgminator1881 I think you are talking about the phaser pedal. Thanks for watching!
You're playing is so fluid and effortless. EVH is in my opinion the most innovative rock guitar player ever. And you sir have some fearsome chops.
Thanks so much for the kind words David. All the best!
Agreed. The guitar era can be divided into two epochs. B.V.H. and A.V.H.
Though I’m 62 and lived through the VH movement in 70s and 80s and play this stuff with my eyes closed, I still learn something from his instruction!
Thanks for watching and keep on rockin'!
Dreyn 77 He could have if he was in the club but he was probably outside the movement and tuned flat
Mean streets intro. A very valuable lesson to give away for free. Great job.
Thank you for watching!
The tones are remarkably close to the recordings... never seen or heard a EVH lesson so freaking real or spot on.. 👍
Thanks! Check this vid out. Even better tone. th-cam.com/video/qvRIBYJ8Q4s/w-d-xo.html
You Da' Man. You nail his tone and the nuance of his technique. I have seen a bunch of Eddie lessons on youtube and your tone and technique the closest I have seen. Thank for the lesson, you earned another subscriber.
Thanks for the kind words Bart, and for subbing!
Bart Clemons That Wolfie helps immensely I own a black Prototype PRE. PAT. PEND. no trademark or patent numbers anywhere on my Wolfgang. It also has perfect intonation and hold perfect tune even if I wank on the bar or even press the bar so far that the strings literally fall off of the fretboard, when I let the trem com back up to pitch... Wolfie is still in perfect tune... they are Bad Ass...
Yeah. Amazing. You nail his tone and playing. 👍
@@guerito7571 Thanks for the kind words and for watching!
The thing people never talk about is the idea that a great deal of tone is in your fingers. Sure, your fingers won't give you high gain distortion, but it's the idea that the greats understand every small thing you do with your fingers contributes to the musicality of your playing: where you're picking, how you pick, the amount of vibrato. It's like steve vai says: a lot of work starts how you imagine your playing should sound, because as you spend time with the instrument and listen to what you're doing, your fingers will create what your brain creates.
Amazing. I could never imagine that awesome tapping part from LWAN was that easy, nailed it in 3 minutes. Thanks a lot man.
Thanks for watching!
Been watching lesson vids on TH-cam for so many years
Many go too slow! Others too fast and the rest the instructors are in need of some serious lessons starting with how to even tune their guitar
But you my man are a born natural at playing and how to give lessons!
Perfection!
Subscribed and am excited about taking my skills to the next level using your instruction!
Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words Richard and for watching!
Really amazing stuff brother from tone to technique it was spot on, informative and well done. You obviously know what you're talkin' a boat.
Thanks for watching and for the kind words! And nope, we don't say 'aboot' up in Vancouver, that is an east coaster thing lol!
This dude is humble and that makes him a Gladiator... You kick total ass... Ya just made me go grab my axe and jam... He is the main reason I pick up up guitar... Six months later after my first couple of lessons. I was jamming 5 keg parties and boy did that helped me land some beautiful gals... thanks Eddie.. and I appreciate your help in finally playing them licks the correct way
Thanks for the kind words and for watching Art!
This dude is the most Canadian sounding guy I’ve ever heard. No doubt. Great guitar work too!
Thanks for watching and for the kind words eh!
@@UptempoMusicLessons Hello, can you add subtitles, my english is bad, but you content is great, if you can :з
Rest in peace eddie... thank you for the upload
Thanks for the tapping techniques including harmonic tapping.
Thanks for watching!
Its really cool of you to do this kind of stuff. For all the idiots saying its a waste of time, you should be yourself and not copy Eddie, well it makes some people happy to be able to copy something they like and if you learn enough of other peoples styles, you can incorporate them into what just might become your own style. I don't know why people have to be rude and say stupid shit instead of just shutting up. And so what if you didn't know what album unchained was on, who cares??!! Some jerk mentioned a one trick pony who made the same album ten times, what an ads, Eddie was a pioneer and as much as I didn't care for it, he moved into keyboards also. Sorry about this rant, I've just seen so many stupid comments today from people who don't know anything about what they are speaking of. Thanks again for taking the time to do this. Just to really prove my point, I'd like to say that I'm not really into Eddies style to point of wanting to sound like him, I prefer styles like Andy LaRoque and George Lynch, but I like to learn a little of all styles and appreciate guys like you who take time to help others. End of rant.
Thanks for the kind words Rick and for watching! I don't let negativity get me down, I use it to improve. All the best!
Thank You UptempoMusicLessons for U/L this Video, You are friggin' AWESOME!
Thanks so much for the kind words! All the best!
The best instruction video I've ever seen.
That is very kind of you to say. Thanks for watching Wayne!
Pick Harmonic = Pinch Harmonic. Nitpicking here - Pinch harmonic seems to be the more common term, possibly because "pinching" is more descriptive of how the harmonic is achieved and you can play a pinch harmonic without a pick. Nice lesson, thanks.
Thanks for watching and for you kind words.
You make it look so easy! Too bad for me, it’s not. Eddie’s unique style is so elusive. You captured his essence. Thank you!
Thanks for watching and for the kind words. It is all just practice really.
I miss my Peavey Wolfgang Special ☹️. Nice playing man...you rock! Thanks for the tips!
Rest In Peace Eddie Van Halen
I know you've been givin props plenty of times and this video is a little older but I gotta say, dude, thank you so much! I've seen lots of 'how to shred like EVH' vids but then all they do is shred full speed and say ok, there ya go. But you slow down and explain so well, thanks sir. New subscriber.
Thanks for the kind words and for watching!
Wow thanks for sharing this man, since a long time I wanted to learn some van halen harmonics stuff and this definetely helps.
Thanks for watching Roberto!
Thank you for mentioning the pedals and their settings. Good vibe.
Thanks for watching!
So much respect and appreciation for tone-through-technique. Your instruction is a perfect combination of straightforward efficiency and attention to detail. Outstanding.
Wow, thank you so much!
I've been trying to do tapping and EVH tricks for years, but my sound was always weak and uneven. I just recently realized, and I've NEVER heard anyone mention it, that he probably uses a compressor to bring up the weak notes and bring down the louder notes, basically evening out the volume of everything. I also noticed you have a Compressor-Sustainer in your set up there, so am I right in assuming this is a huge part of being able to successfully play this stuff? If so, then isn't the compressor pedal just as important as those other three you mentioned? Thanks sir, great lesson and subscribed.
Compression definitely can smooth out your taps but it comes at a cost; tone. A compressor squeezes frequency range so you lose high and low end making the tone not quite as fat. The amount of compression from a super loud amp on 10 like Eddie plays makes things pop out easier but I don't have the luxury to play on 10 here in my little office so I use an attenuator which is not the same so a compressor makes up the difference. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@UptempoMusicLessons What attenuator and compressor are you using?
I promise you it has nothing to do with compression at all.
Thank you very much for taking the time to make these videos. I am very grateful.
Thanks for watching Sam, please subscribe and share. :)
I have that same color/year Peavey Wolfgang! Almost a collectors item now! Love it.
It is a great axe for sure! Thanks for watching!
I do too, only it's the '02 Korean model 👍
That EVH tremolo picking is insane. How does he do that? Lot's of wrist action but precise its crazy. Thx for sharing.
Wrist tilt. Thanks for watching!
Amazing most of this was 40+ yrs ago. I heard tapes he did in the mid 70s of licks/riffs he would whip out much later. I was 16 when VH1 dropped and quit guitar for a month. The "experts" were certain it was all studio magic and black boxes. It was not until Spanish Fly most were convinced Ed was the real deal.
It stands the test of time. Eddie is a one-of-a-kind.
JIMJAMSC - I can remember exactly where I was when I first heard VH1. Riding in a car through Orlando as a kid and a rock station played the entire album. Goosebumps and life changing
Brother I got chills when I heard you played.
Aw thanks Jimmy, that is very kind of you to say! Thanks for watching and please sub if you want to see my latest vids!
Seriously excellent vid man, thank you.
Thanks for the kind words and for watching!
your videos are great, you explain everything so well, and you are an awesome guitar player. I am glad I found your channel on here.
Thanks so much for the kind words Gene! I hope you have a great holiday season and all the best!
You're a fantastic player with great ears and great hands ! A pleasure to look at and to hear ! Thank you !

You have nailed eddies tone perfectly. Great job.
Thanks for the kind words and for watching! All the best for 2020 to you!
🤘true to the art. You keep it simple in explaining, and demonstrate it well. Kudos
Thanks for the kind words and for watching!
Just started seeing your videos, and I love em! Like the comment before me...they are straight ahead,no bull,no showin off,and to the point. Great Job man. Keep em comin
Thanks Kurt! Love the Beetlejuice thumbnail pic lol!

My Peavey Wolfgang is just like yours, Transparent Amber Flame maple. Mine is a stop tailpiece model from 1998. The best guitar I've ever owned. Great video!
It's a fun guitar to strangle! Thanks for the kind words and for commenting.
Ive been playing longer than you are old and I thoroughly enjoyed that. That was very good. Im going to sit and go over that whole lesson. Broken hearted over the loss of ED . Been stealing his shtuff since 1978. I took lessons from Jesse Gress at Star Music in Allentown PA. He is currently playing with Todd Rundgren. I saw a go fund me for him. He is very sick with lung cancer. Please say a prayer for Jesse. He was one of the best guitarist nobody knows. He was the Editor for Melody maker I believe. I did the whole Clapton unplugged in NY book. It was spot on. one day the book was laying on the kitchen counter and on the top of it it said Transcribed by Jesse Gress. I had no idea. Search him on you tube and check him out . He was just so down to earth and kool .He would show you anything you wanted to see. If any of you guys has any spare coin, perhaps it could help a very ill good guy. RIP KING EDWARD We all miss you
Thanks for the kind words. Sorry to hear about Jesse. I have bought a few transcription books he worked on over the years and his transcriptions were among the best. Thanks for checking out my video.
@@UptempoMusicLessons I really enjoyed it. The tone and licks were spot on. I used to have to drive 20 miles one way back in the day to see that type of playing. Today you dont have to buy the music, drive anywhere, or pay for lessons. And there are indeed some good sites to learn a few things. Yours is top notch, I dont sub many people. Cheers
Wanting to learn guitar and Van Halen is one my favorite bands so this was really nice. Good job
Thanks for watching and for the kind words!
Just found you today, and you are really amazing. Great player and instructor.
thanks for the info,,you nailed his sound n the songs
Thanks for watching Derek!
Excellent instructional video, thank you! Professional and straightforward. Can we see more of the 'Girl Gone Bad' solo please? Very helpful!
Thanks for the suggestion. Currently I am battling severe arthritis in my pinky so it may be a while until I can tackle that one, but thanks for watching and commenting!
You are very very good! True talent... ty for sharing!
Thanks for the lesson
RIP Eddie
Beautiful playing. Thank you for your expertise.
Thanks for the kind words Ellen and for watching.
"Unchained" is from the best guitar album ever: "Fair Warning"...Eddie's hatred for DLR comes out in the music...And it's actually a Phaser with a slow sweep...He later introduced his own pedal with an "Unchained" setting for this. But just like life; it's all about rhythm and timing.
Outstanding video tutorial, subscribed!!! have a blessed Christmas
Thanks for watching and for the sub! All the best!
Excellent, well explained and sound as beautiful as Eddie. I wish to do what you do!.
Thanks so much for the kind words and for watching! All the best!
How could there be any thumbs down? Haters, go pay for years of lessons to get this then, geez man. Dude you are an awesome teacher and obviously a fantastic guitarist. Thanks - TOES & THUMBS UP. God Bless EVH! \m/
Thanks so much for the kind words and for watching!
When Eddie first appeared every guitarist wanted to throw away their guitar...lol
We never heard stuff like that. Thanks for the vid ...your great at playing this too!
Thanks for the kind words and for watching Bob!
wow that's the precise guitar I have. So cool to see it with you doing awesome lesson
Thanks for watching!
I’ve got the same guitar. I bought it NOS. But the trem doesn’t stay in place. The thumbscrew comes loose. Do you guys have a nylon washer in there or so?
You're awesome,I could listen to you play all day, thanks
Thanks so much for the kind words and for watching!
I just found this video - just awesome! Many thanks! 🤘

10:03 mean street intro lesson. 🙏🏽
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the lesson!👍 Listening to you speak made me miss getting to go to camp in New Brunswick this summer due to the border closing. Hopefully next year.
Haha well, blue nosers have a much different accent, no aboots for me! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Great vid tutorial! Awesome tone. Are you playing through a Soldano SLO -100 and what Marshall cab are you playing through?
Thanks for the kind words and for watching! I am using a Soldano HR50 through a Lead 1960 Marshall cab. Kinda good for aping Eddie's early 90s tone.
This guy really rocks and although I do not (yet) play the guitar, I do play drums and piano and have been a die hard VH fan all my life. Since Eddie and Alex come from The Netherlands and (both?) started their musical careers playing the piano, there might be some possibilities for me in the not so near future to make some first steps trying to play the guitar.
PS I just stumbled upon this guitar hero teacher today and hope I will find similar videos about another of my guitar heroes, Tom Morello (and I am very happy to see HIM perform again in NL with Prophets of Rage in just a few weeks. Now it is just a matter of hoping, “praying” and wishful thinking to see if VH will rock again in NL.
Thanks so much for the kind words and for watching and please subscribe and hit the bell to get notifications about all my latest videos. :)
Cool lesson! Those Peavey Wolfgang's rock!

Your tone is amazing!!! Wow!!!

UptempoMusicLessons, just subscribed.
Absolutely awesome lesson
Thanks so much for the kind words and for watching!
I love that you covered tapping, but that last bit was not tapping. Those are right hammerons and making this distinction would help explain the technique better to beginners as well. You are just executing a hammer on with your right hand. Kudos on covering some actuall tapping though, it's rarely covered and a whole generation is unaware of this technique due to the " newspeak" definition that has run rampant.
Thanks for the kind words and for the comment. I have heard that argument before about right hand fretwork, but the only fly in the ointment is that all tabulature programs call it tapping, signified by a "T," so that is what I go with. Anyway, I hope you are having a marvelous holiday and all the best for 2020!
thanks for the video, i want to write a solo like van halen for my song and that will be the way to go!!!
You can do it!
Great job and Thank's, Subscribed cuz i need more and your sound is right-on. Do you know what pickup they use?
I think that the pickup in the Peavey Wolfgang is designed by Peavey and EVH. It is a humbucker. Thanks for watching and for the kind words!
F'ing killer man! Great job!
Thanks Ed!
I think that was a fubar reference. Maybe everyone's just given'r
Awesome sound and technique
Thanks for watching!
Hi up-tempo, I apologize! Maybe I was a little bit off the chain.I'm sorry that I got a little frustrated trying to learn from your site, and when it is as important as Eddie Van Halen licks. I should have been a little more patient. It is hard to use the controls on TH-cam sometime to keep up with what you're doing.I apologize again I didn't know that you had the tabs on the the descriptions below. Next time I guess I should look before I leap. I'm sure it's a lot of work trying to put a package together like up-tempo, and it probably takes a lot of your time. And it's good that someone like you, that takes the time to try to help others. You're a good man for doing that. When I started learning to play the guitar back when I was 18 we didn't even have tabs and we certainly didn't have You Tube. It was even hard to find music books that were in tabs, and unfortunately I don't have a very good ear for music. I remember buying the first Van Halen album back when they first came out. I've loved Van Halen ever since. I apologize again and thank you up-tempo fo giving me an opportunity to do so.
Thank you again
And keep up the good work.
Todd P.
Hey Todd, no problem my friend. I could understand how frustrating it would be to not have tabs for this. I now put tab in my actual videos, but back then I did not have the knowledge how to do that yet. I am still learning and hopefully getting better at this. Thanks for taking the time to comment, for the kind words and for watching. All the best!
Great tone.
Thanks for watching!
Tremolo picking is the most difficult yet easiest intermediate stuff.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Digging the harmonics lesson buddy!!!!! Thank you!!!!!
Rock on!
EVH pretty much upstrokes all his double stops in the studio. Do that and all your stuff would instantly sound more EVH like. It's really noticeable on the intro of Unchained and Panama. It does make a difference.
amazing lesson... thank you
Thanks for tuning in!
Great video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Dude you have done your homework! Thx for the lessons
Thanks for watching Albert!
Great video and technique! Are you playing through That soldano?
Yup, Soldano with an attenuator so I can crank it up past 7. I played through half a JCM 900 cab with 75w celestions. Thanks for the kind words and for watching! All the best in 2020 to you!

Are you planning through one of those amps ? You have the phrasing and overall vibe really well. Very well done
Thanks Tom! I am playing through the Soldano HR50+ and I have a boss compressor pedal before it, also using an attenuator so I can get a bit more of the output tube tone involved.
UptempoMusicLessons hope that you post some more. This was so well done and fun to watch too. Thanks for your reply

Sounds really authentique and you nailed the whole vibe ! Is that the soldano hot rod ?
Thanks Tom! Yes, HR50+ by Soldano.
Unchained ...Fair Warning was the album.
Yup, I realized that after I shot the vid. Temporary memory loss is a beotch. Thanks for watching!
Fair warning is my all time favorite album. Lots of really cool stuff on it. Push comes to shove, mean streets, dirty movies, more serious stuff you didn’t see on other albums.

Hey man great video, thank you ! The tapping lick from 16:00 to 16:10 comes from which music ? Can you share the tab please ?
