I understand the importance of always taking your pet to the vet but sometimes it’s late at night and it’s just not possible. It would be helpful to get more details about these issues and what might possibly be an option to keep them comfortable until you can go to a vet. It seems like these days the advice is either “go to the vet” or “sorry we’re not going to tell you anything or we will be liable.” It would be really helpful for more openness and the opportunity for us to truly help our pets in the moment. Most of us do not have easy access to a vet in the middle of the night, which is sometimes when these things happen. My daughter recently had a sick rat and we called the emergency vet clinic and were told the wait would be 7 to 8 hours. So, we had to take matters into our own hands. We had to Google our options and ended up getting a common bird antibiotic from a friend and it saved our rat without the help of a vet. We really had no choice because the ER vet clinic would not even speak to us. I realize it was probably a bit of a risk tackling it ourselves but doing nothing was certain death. I have a huge amount of respect for veterinarians but I’m getting to the point more and more where I am starting to take matters into my own hands and doing a lot of research and stocking up on medications and supplies. When it takes hours to see an ER vet or sometimes even weeks to see a general one, what choice do we have? I would never choose doing things on my own as a first choice but I want to be prepared.
True I was calling around my cat has breathing issue and I didn’t know what to do not too much information about how to feed or give her oxygen or food these clinics and hospitals are these days don’t care about saving life no one suggests me anything and she died the day she had appointment it was hard to get appointment her veterinarian was booked for month and other clinics won’t take new pets in emergency.
First you have to exclude viral infections,heart disease, lung worms, Tumors. If it's Asthma, change the litter, use an antiallergic hoover, buy good biofood without additives, check the house for mold and stop Smoking.
My cat was young when we got her she was fine but I started to notice she was getting bigger through out the years she is really big now and ways 17 pounds when I pick her up it feels like her weight is going to break her paws also I can hear her breathing on the floor like she's gasping for air she pukes food up sometimes and she had a vet cone on her a while back and was losing weight but when her leg healed we took the cone off and she gained all her weight back she tries to jump up on the couch but sometimes falls trying to I'm a little worried about her health but my mom won't listen to me
I found a cat she followed me to my room and made herself a home. I noticed her breathing heavy and sometimes through her mouth but no noise. And sometimes a cough..
A cat in my garden has 3 kittens. They are 2 months old. I feed them but I can't take them to the vet.The mother cat breathes so quickly. I don't have vet near my area. Pls advise what to do with her. Thanks a lot
I wanted to find that out too, since my first one looked like she had rapid breathing (had her since she was a kitten) until i got my second one (i got this one at 19 months) and found out that she's the same so...either it's normal or they both contracted the kitten coronavirus 😂😂...seriously speaking though, I took her (my first) to the vet for advice and he used the stethoscope and said that she didn't sound like anything was wrong but I just can't wrap my head around that being normal.
A normal breathing rate for a cat is between 25 to 30 breaths per min...count how many breaths they take for a minute or you can count breaths for 30sec then multiply by 2 I prefer counting for whole minute it's easier at moment I treating a cat with acute aniemia her breathing is not good at 37 breaths per min is breathing probs vets say its steroids doing it I am not so sure
Would be more helpful if there were vid examples of each breathing problem outlined at the beginning.
Honestly any of these causes can all look similar. It’s not as simple as saying they’ll look exactly like X if they have Y.
