  • This was like a « try to look respectfully » challenge… which I probably failed but oh well ! I find this song to be so fun idk why! It’s like so impossible for me to relate to this and yet here I am singing the lyrics lmao She really killed it, as always! I really wished they committed a bit more to the whole « money » thing but what do I know lol

Regarding the braids...many black people clarified that its not CA and honestly i can see why.. braids are done in almost every culture, colorful braids are done in Thailand too..and i have seen some fans asking other fans to educate her when they get chance during fan signing.. educating idols is good but idk how to feel about this..i just dont want her to get hurt or feel like its her fault.

It's definitely not cultural appropriation. Braids have existed across many cultures for over 30,000 years. How a modern day culture could claim that to then belong to them makes no sense. A simple two minutes of reading would educate people that braids were common throughout all cultures for centuries

As a black person myself I see no problem with this at all. In general i find it extremely dumb and immature how especially Americans try to cancel anyone for wearing black hairstyles, when there is no harm behind it. The only thing that I do have a problem with is when public figures try to act all “stereotypically black” once they wear a certain black hairstyle or whatever. But the world would be so much better if we would learn how to share culture with each other and with all respect.

Also, she doesn't really talk much about her achievement and success ( like posting her awards, or even broke some records, share some billboard post, etc ) makes me think that she just enjoying whatever she does and also for her fans.

Regarding the braid, a fan educated her and she accepted, explained and apologized for it. She was very sincere about the apology. The normal fansign vc would be 90 secs but she extended it to 6 minutes to listen on the fan. She was not aware that it can offend someone. Now she knows, and Im very happy how she listened to the fan who educated her. Kudos to the fan too.

From a black person, i dont speak for the whole black community, but there's nothing really wrong with the hairstyle. There's so much hairstyles in other countries that contrains putting braids on the end of the hair. I could have called it ca if she had started the braid from the roots of her hair, I still don't see the problem here.

Same here. I am black but I don’t see anything wrong with her braids. I think the only ones that were an issue were on “KTL” (kill this love). Where her braids are LITERALLY box braids packed into 2 ponytails.
Here her braids (like you said), are attached from the ponytail. I have seen many girls (non-black) that braid their ponytail, whether it’s one big one or multiple like Lisa’s.
So I really don’t see the problem. Is the issue the fact that she had extensions? So are we saying that IF her hair was longer and she braided her natural hair then it would make it less of a cultural appropriation? That’s the question I ask those who see it as CA.
But to each their own I guess 🤷‍♀️

Unpopular Opinion: For those people coming for lisa wearing braids, Braids do not belong to one specific culture/Race. History shows many cultures used braids in their ceremonies etc.
They don't need approval, permission from a certain group.

  • @Liljo330
    @Liljo330 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

It's not CA. Braids have been in Thailand culture for 100`s of years. Plus it's not as if she is wearing cornrows. And good to finally see a Asian that can rap with the attitude and swag that makes it authentic. Lisa clearly spent many hours listening to black rappers and watching rap videos when she was young. It carries over in everything she does, Lisa is always the baddest guy in the room.

As an African American, I dont feel as it is and I can understand those whom say it is, But the braids are done bare minimum. Like I wish at least when they give kpop groups or just idols braids that they would just do them well. Blend their hair into it better or something PLEASE.
But those braids arent even box braids, they are much more like that Barbie we could get in early 2000's that you could braid colored hair into her hair. So I wouldn't think of it as CA. But I don't want to fault any other African Americans that think so since everyone can feel differently. But I mean we can all agree that we wish they were done better than just added on the ends of idols hair.

I am a latina, and I want to say that in my country we also use the same type of braids that Lisa has, especially in carnival not even that but also box braids ever since I was a child, it's part of the carnival we celebrate, we also braid our hair when dancing to some tradicional songs, when I wear pollerin too, in the carnival is also a way for your hair to not get tinted by the paint we use, and I know in Thailand they also use braids so you see braids in general and different kinds of it can be originated in different places no only from one place, what I want to say is that I don't think she did anything wrong for using braids, at least for me and braids are also a part of my culture because I love it and I feel proud seeing it being appreciated and liked by other people, she didn't make fun of it or anything. I STAN USING BRAIDS IF YOU LIKE THEM AND WANT TO WEAR THEM WITHOUT DISRESPECT.

I haven't seen enough black people having an issue with this situation to actually label this as "CA". The people having a problem with Lisa aren't even black lol. Also her braids aren't from the roots, those are actually extensions joined to her ponytail which is also a wig(kinda idk exactly). Her hair is short now. I don't know much about ca exactly but from what I've seen everywhere, i don't think she nor her team deliberately decided upon that hairstyle. But then if course, if it is ca we should hold the person accountable.

I think Chesir will do a class with this song for sure.. I really wish she could've choreoed this particular song for LS1 though😢 however I hv to remember BP always think abt performing these songs LIVE..
Chesir could collab with Lisa for a Money version of lilifilm.. But for performing live BP do stick with their regular choreographers...
I understand people "complaining" abt the dancebreak but Lisa switches up the pace/intensity and goes HARD towards the end.. To people it looks "easy" but the moves they're all doing requires a lot of precision and control to make it clean af
So I actually encourage these people to upload their own Money dancebreak versions of "hard" choreo to YT and Tiktok👍 Because I'm sure Lalisa would actually love to see that😊

I never felt like Lisa was appropriating our culture while wearing braids. Especially the style of braids she is wearing.

i think this dance performance is more about cultural appropriation because of Korean culture.🧐I’m glad that YG appropriately adjusted the choreography in avoidance of any unnecessary hates towards Lisa.🔥🔥🔥anyway HER STAGE PRESENCE IS JUST ✨chef kisses✨

I am of mixed ancestry. My mothers heritage is celtic/viking, where both men and women braided there hair. Many of the men's hairstyles looks similar to some African American hairstyles popular now... I'm also Seminole Indian and Spanish on my father's side. Braids are common of native culture...
The notion that someones hairstyle (like braids) is equated to them appropriating your culture is kind of bizarre. If it was something like a ceremonial outfit, that is vastly different. But to say that something as trivial as braids is CA is wrong, especially if its not done with the intent to mock other cultures. And if this is the case, then wouldn't we have to consider that every non Korean kpop fan who displays finger hearts and starts using kpop slang is guilty of CA? Its a hypocritical argument, and its honestly fallacious.

    Great reaction video!
Lisa hits harder than Harley Quinn [who she reminds me of] & she doesn't need the baseball bat to accomplish the same effect.
So, her hairstyles reminded me of Harley Quinn & Jeannie ["I Dream of Jeannie" [you'll have to look up that one on TH-cam & you'll see what I mean]].
Thankfully she didn't any harder, I think no one would survive.
I loved how she did all this with a bit of tongue in cheek, but you have got to hand it to her she is such a talented artist.

Taeyang when he ruined his hair to make it look kinky then he got dreads to look “hip”: obviously cultural appropriation.
Kai getting fake cornrows: cultural appropriation

I don't appreciate all these non-black people speaking over us. If you don't want to get involved, then don't. But keep your opinion to yourself, please. To all the black people saying they're not offended and they don't mind kpop idols wearing braids, good for you. But acknowledge why other black people are mad because you should know exactly why. Kpop idols only wear braids when they're doing a specific kind of concept, you will never see an idol in braids when they're doing a damn ballad and that's because they associate African American culture, like braids and clothes, with being "gangsta" or "hard". When we say braids, we are talking about braids created by Africans and African Americans. Do you think Nordic people were doing cornrows or box braids? No. I am so sick of people bringing up fishtail braids when they know we're talking about the hairstyles you see black people wearing all the time. Stop talking over us, it's very much not appreciated.

Many black people don't care for that, most even say they appreciate their culture being represented. Honestly it's people outside the culture that makes it a problem as if black people can't have their own opinion and say words of encouragement to dive into their culture. Some people don't understand that many people with cultures LOVE and appreciate it being represented, matter of fact it makes them even more interested in said topic. I know personally when my own culture gets represent whether family, friends or parents, they honestly get bursts of excitement and happiness when people are experiencing and representing it.
Moving on to the dance and performance video itself, I too wished there wasn't any close up shots when it's labelled as a "performance" video, Lisa and the dancers seems to genuinely worked hard on the dance moves. I agree with you on wishing YG pushed through with giving this an MV due to the close up shots. I don't know if she'll release an actual dance performance, but I hope she does it would be nice to see. I also want to mention people have said she needed to sing the song so that's why the last part wasn't as intense, but there is also an option of adlibs or just use backing sounds, but they probably brought it down so she could breathe especially when singing such high notes pre-chorus.
I like how you mentioned having discussions, I'm up for any positive discussion. It'd be nice to hear mature feed backs and putting out constructive criticism without getting rudely shut down because they've been personally offended.

That some people feel they have the right to deny others the right to do something based on race/ethnicity, used to be considered racism. Today it's the "virtue" of fighting cultural appropriation...
