A great tutorial as always, Flabaliki. But if I may, I would add a word of warning for anyone using the built-in recorder in the Sims 3: you can only speed up videos that are uncompressed! At least if you're using Movie Maker, since I haven't tested it on any other software.

I once was making a speed build. Did the recording and popped the file into Camtasia. For those of you using Camtasia, it has a limit of its speed increase. Movie Maker is better for the speed build video creation. I usually use WMM for CAS and Speed Build videos.

windows 8 is effectively windows 7, they added the touch screen features as an optional extra (which is pretty handy anyway), the windows 7 desktop is always available, hardly changed at all!

What if you build the house, save game, then in the same session, push ctrl+z (undo) everything you built? After you're back to an empty lot, start recording while you press ctrl+y (redo) repeatedly until you get back to the final product. Although I don't know how far back you can undo things, so I don't know how well this would work.

I don't get it. Instead of recording hours of raw video at 20-30 frames *per second*, why not just screen cap a single frame every second or half-second instead (with Fraps or the like), and then make a time lapse video of that? Way less resource usage, and on top of that, higher possible quality too.
I've been trying to record a speed build using the undo/redo method but when I got to the actual redo part the game would only rebuild about 1% of the house... How can I record the whole thing if the undo/redo tool won't let me rebuild the whole house?

i know, but when you build a huge house then try to delete it and find out that part of what you build is gone, it is a huge pain in the rear. Found that one the hard way, LOL!

Depending on how fast you're making it go, faster speeds may make it lag. Try having it a little less than what you're trying in WMM. (Helps get rid of lag in my speed builds)
James, I have been trying my hardest to make my own speedbuilds. I feel I am very talented and can do a great demonstration of my capabilities with speedbuild. I want to know where you would be able to locate the recordings from "in-game" to transfer to movie maker... I have recorded my build... its now getting it from in-game to the movie make. Once you are in the town like when it says create a sim choose a household or move in a household you press the three dots and you will see a option that says edit town
Windows 8 is horrible, they have made it primarily for touch screens and they have gutted out anything that the typical pc user will not know anything about.(which is pretty much EVERYTHING) I am sticking with windows 7. Windows xp: Good Windows vista:bad windows 7: good Windows 8: bad windows 9: .... Can you see a bit of a pattern?

Although I don't know how far back you can undo things, so I don't know how well this would work.
your able to undo anything from your session, but your only able to redo until you make a change so when doing this be sure not to touch a thing

You've probably figured it out by now (and forgotten you wrote this....) but you can find the videos in the Sims 3 Launcher.
