This is an update to our very popular Sun Visor Headband Video from last season. You can see the original video here th-cam.com/video/U5eytP3eg_0/w-d-xo.html
Thanks---just purchased your pattern from Etsy. I'm an experienced sewist, but learned several excellent tips in making this visor, specifically, how you attached the elastic casing piece--brilliant.
This is a great little piece of headwear that I always sell out of when I have them in my festival booth!!! Thanks for watching and the lovely comment. Cheers, Tori
Thanks so much. I just bought the pattern and I’m looking forward to making these. Yours are so pretty. Thank you for sharing your hat making skills. I plan to buy more of your patterns. I’ll work on this one first.
Can you send me a picture to my email madcaphats@gmail.com? You can fold over that top edge to make the band shallower or you may need a smaller ( not so wide) visor with your style of glasses. If you mean that it is falling down on to your glasses then the band is too large and you can shorten the length of your elastic piece at the back. Send me a picture if you can so I can try to give you a better suggestion!
I purchased the pattern, but there doesn’t appear to be any written instructions on how to construct the visor. Written instructions with illustrations would be most helpful. I’ve watched this video at least 10 times, because parts of it either moved too fast to follow, or the video skipped ahead just as I was trying to see what was being demonstrated. Hopefully, my second visor will go faster.
There are written instructions included but an update is coming next week with some new pictures. If you bought the pattern on our website you will get the update automatically!
A word to the wise…if you use craft foam for the brim, you probably won’t want to make another one. Very, very difficult to work with. I will use heavy fusible stabillizer if I ever make another one.
I suppose that depends on the thickness of the foam and your machine! Not so hard for some machines especially if sandwiches between fabric. Customers send me their happy visor photos all the time!
I used the craft foam from Walmart, and my sewing machine is the Pfaff Creative Icon. My machine had no issues sewing through the foam. I’ve been sewing Sewing for 60 years, but have only used craft foam two or three times in my life. I finally got the pieces attached, but it was only after ripping out seams a number of times. I would truly like to see a video of how the concave edge of the craft foam is sewn to the straight edge of the headband. Thanks. @@madcaphats
