In Brazil we have a tree called canela sassafraz, that is really rich in safrole and it is used for teas. It isn't the same as the one in USA, but probably the same smell and taste as both are rich in the same substances
It's still technically legal to buy and possess, but if you start buying mass stock of sassafras root, there's a good chance the DEA will be on your ass.
You came to my hometown to get sassafras... that's one reason to come here. I just so take that for granted as an easy to find tree. We had like three of them in our yard when I was a kid.
i get the roots from my Sassafras tree & dry it out in the fall then make my tea & in June 15 of every year i get the leaves to make my Filé for my gumbo dry them out by hanging them upside down in a dark place like a black garbage bag tell the leaves crumble up then grind them up in a blender

Wow. That lady is very pretty but she also looks like she's made of steel. Don't worry about sea sickness, just don't upset her. Personally I'd listen to whatever she has to say about self care and especially botanicals. Very good video.
I remember at a Boy Scout camp last year that you could use the stem of sassafras leaves to make a chewy gum-like thing. Too bad Wintergreen didn't grow there or else if you crushed it, it could be some Wintergreen Gum.
Sassafras tea is sold at Native American rallies. I didn’t realize that it could be hallucinogenic. Interesting. Great video, I have it growing all over my property in south central North Carolina and had a Native American Lumbee tell me he would sell it at the rallies each year to make money. He said he would sell out very quickly every time. We don’t have wintergreen n down here, unfortunately. The reason I ended up talking to him about it in the first place is that my Finnish aunt in Northern Minnesota used to make real fermented root beer and I was wondering how it was made.
its illegal to sell in processed form for human consumption. i sell sassafras all the time. no telling if people are comsuming it or not. as its also used for potpourri
you can sip it in the morning, sip it in the evening, even at a quarter to 3. cause I like sassafras, you like sassafras, we like sassafras TEAAAA! If you don't know this than I don't want to know you✌👋
I'd just like to point something out, i have a thing called vertigo and it's pretty much sea sick but im not moving. Try having sea sick once a month but it last for a day to a week
Oh, so the name root beer comes from the material that is root of a sassafras tree, but where does the beer come from? Is it because of the yeast used to make the CO2 or something?
Yes. Originally rootbeer and ginger beers or ales were alcoholic, though you can get the carbonation with minimal alcohol by keeping it aerobic (like kvass). Now we just add CO2 to softdrinks synthetically (gas cylinders).
Its the mic that theyre using being rubbed against clothing or a hand or something which made that noise. Just in case there is anyone out there who doesnt know that, ill state the obvious.
FDA bans sassafras because it might be a carcinogen... Leaves cigarettes untouched
+batman39400 that's just the excuse, the real reason is that it is a precursor to MDMA
Pimp Doubt this isn't a funny reply but it made me laugh
batman39400 I
That doggo got stabified
The FDA is full of shit. They banned it just at the exact point in time people started taking it as the drug MDMA.
Best episode yet, loving it being slightly longer and more informative on the subject!
I like it when the episodes are long.

Primitive technology
Lake Michigan is beautiful! Happy to know apart of Michigan is in the rootbeer you're making. :-)
I thought sassafras became illegal because safrole oil is a main ingredient used to make MDMA
That's probably why, but the FDA just hides behind the "possible carcinogen" facade.
It's still technically legal to buy and possess, but if you start buying mass stock of sassafras root, there's a good chance the DEA will be on your ass.
If you get it from the right site you can buy sassafras oil then distille it and get safrole boom MDMA
no..thats the REAL reason.
besides cola wars by pepsi and coke on barqes
@@Mr_Makina lot more steps than that are require to make Mdma bro
I always find it interesting that so many things that work well together in herbal blends tend to grow together, like the sassafras and wintergreen.
