Zen is perfection, it is everything I ever needed in a browser. I used Firefox for the past, I don't know, 15 years or so, and there were a few things I was missing. I discovered Zen a month or so ago, and it's been a revelation. Everything FF had plus so many useful and nice features and design elements. Loving it.

I find the Glance feature useful when opening search results - I set it to Alt+click, so I can just do that on search engine result links and quickly see what page they are leading to, without having to open them fully. Selecting two tabs and opening them in split view can also be good for saving extra space that would otherwise go for space between two side-by-side windows, at least for tiling window managers. I've also set the top bar to autohide, so extra vertical space there. There may be other things I'm forgetting.

@@СергейЛюбимов-у3ф I have no idea, let's see if someone has tried this. What do you mean by custom plugins? You can install any extension that shows up in the mozilla extensions store, as the browser is Firefox based. So I guess if you can do it in Firefox, you can here too.
@@linkarzu Unfortunately, you can't run persistently custom written plugins (ones that you create yourself and don't upload to the store) in Firefox. You have to reactivate it every time you restart browser. Unlike Chromium, for example, where custom plugins stay activated all the time
I have been following Zen progress for quote awhile now and it is getting really good. Minor drawback for me right now is that I can’t watch Netflix in Zen lol.
@@linkarzu Yeah, not a deal breaker for me either, just have to switch browsers for that purpose. I think Zen browser does not have a Widevine license which is required to stream that kind of content, and the license apparently is expensive, so quite understandable that Zen does not have it at this point yet.
The only problem I had with Zen is the font rendering. I’m using Arc browser before and now I tried Zen. I found that the text aren’t rendered as Arc. Sometimes I feel it’s a bit thicker and blur in Zen (also Firefox). I don’t know how to fix it.
Hey thanks for the video. I didn't know about zen browser. I do use zen mode in vim, similar idea. I like it instantly specially that I have been using firefox and it syncs all my data. Just one question. How are you navigating the side bard using keyboard? I can not use any key for the side bar to navigate between the tabs. Not even the arrow keys. It just keeps scrolling the main browser :(
@@ykhatat There's a keymap that works with all browsers (at least on my experience), not sure if it's a universal thing or what, but try shift+cmd+[ and shift+cmd+] If using windows not sure what it is, but it won't be "cmd" The zen browser seems to have this inverted though, when I press shift+cmd+[ which moves to the left on any other browser, I would expect it to move "down" but it moves "up", so I reverted my keymap in karabiner-elements. I found some other solutions as well: * cmd+option+let/right arrow keys * if you use vimuim you can use the map h and l to go to prev and next tabs, however, it doesn't work all the time like if you are viewing a pdf or you are in the setting page. This is a good browser, but still a work in progress. There are some bugs. Like fingerprint on mac doesn't work (for authentication) or the damn floating side bar sometimes bugs out and stays open you can't even use the shortcut to close it which is very annoying.
@@ykhatat I did notice the issue with the floating sidebar on the side that stays open, but that's because your mouse pointer is over it, and it doesn't let it hide, I think they should implement an option that we can toggle to "Force hide" the bar even if the mouse is over it. I'll create a issue in their repo, but they have so many that will take some time. In the meantime, I created a hammerspoon script that moves my mouse to the center of the screen when zen browser is focused, we'll see how that goes and if I like it or not.
Just found out that when I open a raindrop bookmark, even if my mouse is not over the sidebar, it doesn't hide. So will just have to wait for that to be fixed
i have been using arc. one thing i really like about arc is the workspace and being able to open certain urls in set workdpace, can you do that with zen? one thing i dont like about arc is that it breaks the vimium extension, does zen use bookmark?
Zen uses regular old bookmarks, I press cmd+b in a part of the video and the bookmarks bar shows up. Zen has workspaces but I haven't played around with them too much, I will keep playing with it and release a video with my findings/suggestions
@linkarzu thanks for the reply. as much as i like to use zen, but the multi account container is buggy as hell, spent 2hrs trying to get my own github to open in personal workdpace and work github to opem in work workspace, just couldnt work. going back to arc we go.
@@linkarzu im still using arc, one thing is that i would like to use vimium to control tab movement like going back and forth, which is broken with arc, along with some other keys. i would also like to use the bookmarks, i actually prefer arc's logic of how bookmarks are bad, but its so easy to find bookmarks with vimium. mostly just the lack of support for vimium. its the best option i got so far
@ yeah, but what I meant is that arc is no longer developed anymore, just bug fixes and supposedly security updates. Because they're creating a new browser :suspicious:
Arc is no loner developed, it will just get "security updates and bug fixes" it seems they weren't able to monetize it they way they expected and are just creating a new browser with monetization in mind from the beginning (I guess). I tried arc, it was missing a few things I needed, so I went back the Chrome

@@Falamhi the browser is based on Firefox, so you can install any firefox extension. I have been able to install the ones that I use

I still use chrome for some things, like my youtube "app", I just did the "Install Page as app..." thing
