I am just getting into HEMA and sword fighting and his videos are probably the most instructional videos I have seen on greatsword use. No one else seems as informed or as practiced from the other videos I have seen.
An excellent video. Good demonstrations and explanations. As one beginning his study in the Great Sword, your channel seems to be a strong tool in that endeavor. A shame you haven't made more content- you could help the community with your work, and make a pretty penny while doing so.
Awesome analysis on the mechanics, those differences on the blade sizing principles of Philippo di Vadi and Thibault were something I never considered!
Fantastic video. Concise, well thought out. My kind of delivery. You as a person came through, and I appreciate that as much as the expansion on the subject. Well done, more of this please.
Definitely a fantastic video but very hard to learn from because all I could hear was "my pants are tucked into my pulled up socks! pulled up them socks so high. Then, I tucked my pants into those tall socks. Pants in socks, such tuck. Much sock. Very pants in those socks."
Awesome video, I really didn't expect as much information as I received from the title. As a two-handed sword enthusiast it was nice to see some of the things I've picked up stated in a clear and concise manner. If you make any other videos regarding training methods, exercises/conditioning I'd happily watch them. Subscribed
Angel Primon nice to meet you! Have you ever felt or seen a demonstration of the two-handed macana? With the Spanish commentary on them being used like the montante, I'm a little curious about them. Never handled one myself though.
Huh, when you demonstrated Thibault's perfect blade length from the side, that instantly reminded me of the diagram of how to measure Silver's perfect length.
HEMA is open to everybody, and the longsword is actually the easiest to learn because you don't need to be in good shape to be adept at it. It is all a matter of practice.
All the hard work, sacrifice and pain of my generation and thoughs before us, we had envisioned great things for our art. I see that we are left wanting.
This is an EXCELLENT video! You are quite good! I was told you quit HEMA. If so, please reconsider because that would be a great loss for the Historical Fencing community.
Interesting video. I'm guessing aimed at other instructors? Or at least people who know to warm up well before doing a lot of those exercises/stretches or risk injury. Certainly the more "poppy" ones..
Do you have a facebook or instagram? Trying to study montante/spadone/ flammenschwert here in Los Angeles and you have great movement and explainations. Would like to correspond occasionally...
Great to see you posting new content! Have you used Vincent Le Chevalier's sword dynamics computer for any of your sword, especially the montante? If so would you consider sharing the agility graph and other specifications?
This is not the sword in the video but here are the measurements of a Montante trainer by Arms&Armor: subcaelo.net/ensis/dynamics-computer/?eyJ3ZWFwb25zIjp7IkEmQSBNb250YW50ZSI6eyJNIjoyMTg0LCJSIjotMTE1LCJDb0ciOi0xMDMuMywiYnV0dCI6LTE1NSwidGlwIjowLCJLIjoxMzU2LjkxOTA3NzYzNjQwODIsImRLIjoxMS40ODE5MTUwMjQxMDM3MiwibGV2ZXIiOi0xNTAuNSwibm9kZTEiOi0xMjAsIm5vZGUyIjotNDMuNCwibSI6InAiLCJjb25mIjpbMCwxLDEsMSwxXSwicDBzIjpbLTExNSwtMTUwLjUsLTEzMCwtMTIxLjUsLTEyNi41XSwicDFzIjpbLTcsLTcyLjUsLTUzLC0yMS41LC00My40XSwiTnAiOjIwLCJwcHMiOlstODIuM10sIlRzIjpbMzcuMTNdfX0sInZlcnNpb24iOiIyIn0%3D
It's odd. I've been teaching myself swords since a child. I also knew all this info innately from looking at human mechanics of my own body and experimenting. I once had a 20 wooden Blade that looked like clouds from final fantasy. That will teach you very quick about the ratios. The blade had 1 to 3 ratio but the handle was double a montante. But using dan jian katana and our carved creation teaches you naturally how to get proper angles and cutting mechanics. However re learning this is very fun with hema. The mechanics are wildly different than my self taught learning. Both are functional but hema imo obviously is more refined.
Shane Scallin In my experience, yes. Or, you can make your own Greatsword waster on a budget, provided you know the measurements of the exact weapon you'd prefer. In any case, any practice at all is better than no practice.
Imagine if all college teachers were like him we wouldn't need teachers open carry. News: school shooter found dismantled and dismembered by sword wielding teacher.
Bro! I'm so glad I found you brother! I train with a sword I can full up as I get stronger I'm currently am training at 12.5 kg or 27.5 pounds 150 strikes a day with my sandbag workouts! We must connect and collaborate brother! I hope you see this! What's your Instagram I definatly gotta add you. I will do whatever I need to do to make sure we meet up and can do a training video collab! Check out my training videos! Let's build a league of the world's strongest swordsman!

there's so much gold in this single video, i can't believe i haven't seen it before. literally took notes.

This guy is like the professor of hema
Love being a member of CKDF, you can see what the other members are covering
I don't know why it is, but I love the sound effects. Good stuff, thanks for making this video very useful information.

Awesome video! You are like a walking encyclopedia of technique and the engineering and physics of blade work!
this is very helpful for animating swords, thanks dud :)
Ooh, fellow animator here as well! :D I have to agree, this is excellent resource in understanding sword mechanics

Like and subbed! I literally was looking for this type of video! Informative, good audio & video, and you information sharing flows well.
Excellent video! And welcome back, I hope you continue to make videos on two-handed swords.
I knew james clark was a good swordsman but i didnt know he was such a good teacher.
Experience is the best teacher haha thanks for the lesson
Great explanation and demonstration, very good what you do, a big greeting from Argentina.
Angel Primon nice to meet you! Have you ever felt or seen a demonstration of the two-handed macana? With the Spanish commentary on them being used like the montante, I'm a little curious about them. Never handled one myself though.
Thanks for these insights - there's a lot of stuff I hadn't thought of.
Excellent video, much appreciated.
Huh, when you demonstrated Thibault's perfect blade length from the side, that instantly reminded me of the diagram of how to measure Silver's perfect length.
That's what I was thinking when he mentioned "... single handed sword blade length..." being used for the "ideal" two handed blade length.
Excellent presentation. Thank you
this video is super satisfying and very good at making me wish i was born a male who stood a chance of practicing enough to handle a long sword

This was super interesting, from the perspective of someone that knew nothing on the subject.
Please upload more!
Very great video and lesson, thanks
Buen vídeo , faltan mas vídeos explicando más técnicas, gracias
I used to be an adventurer like you once, then I took an arrow to the knee
hoping for a comeback
Dude, you earned my like
24:30 Imagine actually plunging the entire blade into the opponent from this position :D
For all the cuts in this video, I feel like it could've used a few more within the editor. But I don't mean to hate, this video was awesome.
All the hard work, sacrifice and pain of my generation and thoughs before us, we had envisioned great things for our art. I see that we are left wanting.
@27:50 I flinched... :)

what types of soldiers used them?
What is you opinion on rings on the montante? Should it have them necessarily?
Do you have a facebook or instagram? Trying to study montante/spadone/ flammenschwert here in Los Angeles and you have great movement and explainations. Would like to correspond occasionally...
the title didn't do the video justice

good technique!
Thank u very much, good sir
Where did you buy that short training tool?
Very useful
Totally random, but you were on Knife or Death season 2, right? I saw the episode and was like I'VE SEEN THAT GUY!
I thought the zweihander was supposed to be used in a real flowy style so your not actually having to stop the momentum?

how dangerous are large swords to the user?
RIP dirt floor
Is using a staff a good alternative if you're on a budget?
Shane Scallin In my experience, yes. Or, you can make your own Greatsword waster on a budget, provided you know the measurements of the exact weapon you'd prefer. In any case, any practice at all is better than no practice.
The Portuguese in the middle ages thought so... please,See this video about "Jogo do Pau" th-cam.com/video/ajMnwhKgr1s/w-d-xo.html
Clever guy
How much does a montante/zweihander normally weigh in lbs
nvm
@@nori5640 Half of that... Around 5 or 6 pounds.
I just uploaded proper form to swing a 27 pound berserk sharp sword 👍
Guts is a subscriber
Use that stink core!
{aplauding clap}
Your videos are to rare...
Great video. Shame about the letterboxing though
Thanks for the feedback, is this better?
Oh damn much better :) Didn't know you could do that on uploaded videos.
Hes like a sword wielding milo from disneys atlantis
