I was really digging their base line! I played Bb clarinet in high school & we almost always played the melody. I sometimes felt sorry for the bass players who got stuck playing the boring bass lines & harmonies. Lol Clearly I never got to hear & fully appreciate their parts. It seems like they got to play some of the cool parts, too. All in all, it sounded wonderful when all the parts blended together.
That is a GORGEOUS Bass Clarinet. I have seen so many high school instruments that have been... less than well-taken care of, that it's nice to see one in such good shape. AND played so well!
Real. The first bass clarinet I played was falling apart at the seams!! The plating on the keys was coming off, the peg to save its life (I had to put books under it 💀), and it made this rattling noise anytime I played a note below low A, and the teacher didn't believe when I told him 😭
Yes!! I have played this piece yearly for about four years, though we have not been able to keep up the tradition these last two years (due to the young age of such a large percentage of our marching band). Thus, i hage only played this on a Bb clarinet, as I swapped to the bass clarinet last year. Would've loved to get to play this piece at least once or twice more before my time is over (due to being too old, you're out once you've completed highschool)
Oh my god y'all actually get to sit next to your bari player😭😭 last year our bari and bass kept messing eachother up in the D section so my band director decided to split the two up from thereon out- and now my friend and i who've moved up to these instruments aren't allowed to be near eachother which sucks, but anyways- you guys sound great!!!
@@Rose_lxvsyou2 bro if ur talking about concert c sharp then im shocked. that key signature is literally evil for wind players and i've only seen it once, and that was in pit orchestra music
I don’t know why but my band teacher lets us have so many solos. Even me (a bass clarinetist) got a solo in sleigh ride (it was improvised, my band director like to put her own spin on to the music.) anyway you’re bass clarinet looks soo cool. I have a Kessler low-c bass clarinet in the black and it looks sick. Way better than my old school loaned bundy that was at least 20 years old. Anyway loved the vid.
Me and my other bass clarinet buddy at school both really want the Kessler midnight model that’s so cool you got one. Your director sounds really cool wish I had him
I’ve played this every year for the past 11 years. I’m in percussion so I always play mallets and whip. It’s so interesting to hear all of these other parts. Especially Let’s Go Blue! during the jazz section.
You can tell that this was a really tight and good natured band. I'm not sure what school this is, or where, but you can see that these students love music and have a great time performing. Not only that, they are top-notch performers - especially for their age group. Great job and a very enjoyable performance.
It seems you aren't a lot. Bass clarinet was a bit annoying for me the one year I had to play it tho, too heavy to carry and you never play any solos but only tuba parts
I remember learning this in 8th grade, but I had to move schools bcs of family things, and I didn't get to play in the winter concert :'( I haven't played bass clarinet until now (just got back in band) and I've gotta get used to playing again and remember the keys TvT
Bro if your gonna March bass clarinet Get a Jazz Lab neck strap it distributes the weight evenly on your shoulders. It’s gonna make your instrument feel like a feather. I got my entire band to get one
I play bass clarinet and I’m only in 8th grade so I’ve got a little bit till I could play this but did anyone else start to move side to side with them😭
I didn't play sleigh ride this year for band but I did play rudolph and all I had (as a bass clarinet player) got one quarter note, rest, quarter note, rest, and then one quarter note, rest, three quarter notes, rest. and that's the pattern 😭
The clarinets melody is really cool sometimes, we sometimes get melody in my section but there are so many of us that we have to play quiet when we are not melody
This is what i play, i love it but im always told " be louder!". Its really easy for me to play the bass clarinet, i want to play the contrabass clarinet!
100th comment. :) Not me being told I can't dance while playing this piece.🙄Smh. It feels so natural to do. Lmao. I really feel the music I play, so I love to move my bass clarinet and body to the rhythm and flow of the song. It feels wrong to just sit there all still. Great job. Also, to those who read this comment, how does it feel to play clarinet with braces? If anyone plays clarinet, bass clarinet, or contrabass clarinet (yeah, I know) with braces, I would greatly appreciate your feedback. And to all of those who have read my mini essay, have a wonderful day!!!!
After I first got my braces, my mouth was really sore for a few days. But after the soreness, I tried playing again and it was a little uncomfortable at first but then you get used to it really quickly. At least that’s how it was for me. It doesn’t really get in the way. I played regular clarinet bass and contrabass and played fine with braces
I’m late, I know- I play clarinet and used to have braces. When I got mine on, I had a hard time playing for like 3 days. Then you get used to them and it’s no problem. When you get them tightened you’ll get used to that quickly too, so it should be fine
Okay, thank you!! I forgot about this comment. Lmao. So I came back to find it under this video when I randomly checked the comments. My teeth hurt for a while. Specifically my front right tooth, which was loosened up a lot. A few weeks ago, I was able to wiggle it with the slightest touch. I play the trumpet and I have a lot of melodies and I kinda wish that I was a low brass instrument but alas I like my trumpet 🎺
