My first thought when I saw my mates pair was, are they home made? When he told me he had paid over a grand for a pair I was in shock. They sounded impressive enough but after a few years they developed a fault and went back to Linn. The dealer lent him a pair of TDL Studio Ones while they were gone, they outperformed the Lnn's in pretty much every department, so much so that the Linn's never returned and he still has the Studio Ones.
The speakers were not designed to be looked at without grille. That's why they look so rough. I don't know why everyone keeps ripping the grills off any vintage speaker.

The original Isobarik uses the old Kef KK3 crossover because the lads at Ariston didn't really know how to design one suitable for such a complex design. Originally built and marketed by Ariston Audio, Ivor split off from Ariston and continued production of LP-12 and Isobarik under the Linn title. A law suit ensued which Ivor won and Linn fell into success and also spawned a cult following as an unfortunate side effect.
Really interesting info, I recently picked up a good condition pair of Isobarik Dms's with the xlr connections on the back, I've heard from many sources that the of the period naim amps are the ideal partnering electronics, but what modern amplifiers (integrated or power) play well with the Isobariks?

As long as you don't mind the Isobarik's squawky midrange coloration, the speaker is pretty good in other respects but far too over hyped.

Iconic speaker but not to everyone's taste. Midrange coloration being a weak point. Kind squawky.
