    Chuck I gotta tell that ever since you gave us the "fast profile" it has completely upped my printing game. My channel is all about making pulse motors from completely 3D printed parts and now that I have that fast profile, I can print much larger parts and a fraction of the time it use to take. AND the print quality is even better as well. U DA MAN!!!!! Can't wait for the 5.0 CHEP profiles :)

    The easiest way to fix this issue (if the option is missing from your printer's screen) is to set in Cura 5 the Machine settings under Preferences / Printers by modifying the G-code by adding this in the 2. line in Starting G-code:
    M413 S0 ;
    Note that this will turn off the auto save so you will loose the option to recover your print if something goes wrong.

  • @ThomasTomiczek
    @ThomasTomiczek 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Not sure this is a cura bug - waiting in a corner seems more like a firmware issue to me. Plus you chould try linear avdvance, but again, if the firmware JUST stops printing there to write out, that is not something the slicer can sensibly predict and is essentially a failure of the firmware.

    • @FilamentFriday
      @FilamentFriday  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Not a Cura bug at all. Never said it was. But it did help find a bug in my printer setup.

      It power loss recovery as Chep said. Both my Creality printers suffer with it, even more so in case mode. Modifying the firmware so it writes to SDCard instead of the slower EMMC helps but now I just turn it off.

    • @WMH-3D-Printshop

      not firmware error, but sd card need to be formatted, error occurs when it needs to read the next layer and pauses a smuggling and thereby the lilli bubble occurs

    The FLSun SR had a similar problem on release where it would pause and cause blobbing due to the restart ability and saving data at end / start of a level. The cure here was to turn it off OR to reformat the sd card… not sure why but it worked for me.

    My Ender 3 is creating little blobs at the start of every layer, much smaller than yours. At first, they probably stuck out a mm but after I slowed down the print in the Slicer (Creality 4.8.2) and changed to Hatchbox Filament the blobs seem to be a bit smaller but still noticeable when I am looking for them. Turning the Power Outage protection thing off maybe helped a little but, it is still making a seem. Is it natural to have a vertical line of these mini lumps, like a zipper?

    With my ender 3 and updating firmware, I found I had to disable power off resume recovery function all together, because it being ON and the "ability to write" to SD card ate up too much memory for my poor board to handle. (I wanted to enable some other features, like linear advance) Honestly my results with the recovery has been terrible anyway - none of my power fail prints have ever recovered properly, so I wasn't losing much. Power goes out - print is ruined still. (I plan to make a Battery Backup for this, as an hour or so would be plenty for most blackouts)
    My biggest issue though, is verticle lines on my Y face I can't figure out. In a discord trying for help and still nothing. Weeks of troubleshooting and ruined parts.

    I had this very same pause-and-blob problem yesterday on my Ender 3 V2. I started the print again with the same problem. Then I sliced the model with the exact same settings and saved the gcode file to a different (and otherwise empty) SD card and the blobs were completely gone. So I guess it’s definitely a SD card read/write issue.

    I just started using Cura 5.0 and I really have noticed much difference other than some blobs when printing a sphere. Otherwise it prints great. I saw another video where they changed the mesh resolution to get rid of the blobs.
    I did have a problem installing Cura 5.0 though as the Virus Scanners think it is a Virus. I looked online and this is a common problem and has to do with their new icon. I had McAfee on my fairly new laptop and was unable to figure out how to tell it to allow it so I installed my regular AntiVirus BitDefender and it automatically created a rule for it. @SianaGearz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not much. Let's say your print is 10cm tall and has 0.2mm layers, then a half-second pause adds 5 minutes. That's a print that could probably be 2 hours long if not much more.
      With a decent SD-Card and without extra stalling inducing bugs, the write access hides entirely in the plan length and causes zero delay and print time increase.

    I have a bit of another problem and researching brought me here. When printing on my Ender 2 Pro from SD card, everything is fine. I´m getting amazing prints off of this little guy. Now I connected a Raspberry Pi 3B with Octoprint. Power Outage is off and I made sure it stays off with "Store Settings". Now, while printing through Octoprint im getting weird blobs randomly positioned all over my prints. The printhead just stops for a second or two and spits out filament without any axis moving. Shortly after it continues. Any idea?

    In theory retract at layer change setting would mitigate this firmware issue, but Cura does some weird stuff that might result in the Z move happening early and triggering the problem if the firmware does it based on Z move.

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Z move doesn't get emitted by CURA early I don't think? Marlin doesn't actually do the save in the Z move, it does the write when the gcode parser processes a move that contains X or Y and extruder displacement, but last write was at a position which was more than 0.05mm in Z lower. Extruder check was added because although resume is incompatible with Z Hop in principle, because with it being around, who really knows where the toolhead is in Z, it should at least skip the write if it were to be triggered by it. But it's not perfect, because "continue retract" post processing script will mess it up. The only true solid way to get resume would be to have an advance warning pin from a circuit connected to the power supply primary. However then also you need to save the last executed partial move, which it does not. It just does its best to repeat the layer it got stuck on.
      This does pose a potential issue though because the parser runs ahead, it feeds the planner synchronously, and the planner emits a buffer with a bunch of moves that get executed by the step routine sometime later whenever it gets to it. So the saving can actually occur before the Z move has started or completed executing. Ideally the saving would get triggered by a special flag in the plan buffer. It's a crappy system for a crappy event.
      Z Hop could be fixed on printers that home to Z Max but it's not considered, since it's just such an uncommon config.

    • @daliasprints9798
      @daliasprints9798 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SianaGearz Oh, wow. That means the write is necessarily after unretract and thereby necessarily ruins your print oozing while it dwells. 🤦🤦🤦 What a misfeature.

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@daliasprints9798 Creality engineering. Marlin team tried to rescue it best they could and make it less bad, but I could tell they get queasy just looking at it. Ideally you'd have an RTC chip or something like that, they have some arbitrary SRAM storage ideal for this, if you're not going to have advance warning. And ideally you'd write how many steps were taken several times a second, or when the advance warning fires, and then would just run the file in dry run mode until you reach the spot, but that can be very slow.
      I don't think SD card write disables interrupts, so the step routine continues operating if there is enough of a plan. And normally the write is not disruptive on a well behaved SD card.
      The write actually is triggered during parsing and not during plan execution. But as far as I can tell, the written and compared Z are the actual ones of the toolhead at that point as updated by the step routine. It's baffling. But it also doesn't seem to be worth too much effort to properly rescue it, like, the list of tasks is really really overwhelming for a small developer group. I for once don't need the feature because my last power outage is 20 years ago, so I'm not working on it, and even as bad as it is, it appears useful enough for some people, and every involvement by someone may break it.

      That's the wrong side to fix the issue at. Like sure it'll be likely less obvious as the pressure advance logic relieves the pressure somewhat before the layer transition happens, but the unplanned halt while SD card stalls the control board due to a low quality chip will still happen and will still lead to a residual issue.
      Also I don't believe it's compiled into that particular firmware, but maybe I'm wrong.
