John Blacklock That was in his prime with an incredible quality. His diction was Superb especially in all the French OPERAS. He was very wise in choosing roles that suited his voice perfectly. I am not the type that always tries to find some very minor changes in a GREAT artist. Like they do to Kaufman as well. Another example of a great tenor when he was in his prime he could not get enough praise. And now per usual everyone always trying to find fault in his voice. Arnold Bourbon Amaral
John I too have always been a fan of Mr Kraus when back in the day all you ever heard was about Pavarotti! As a retired singer myself (baritone) I cannot help but listen with a critical technical ear, both the vocal technique as well as for the musicianship and the interpretation. I actually agree with you about the sheen not being there in his latter career but in the same breath it must be said that he sang into his late sixties, 67 I believe and died at almost 72. So I believe it is simply a case of an extremely long and exemplary career that accounted for the sheen not being there in the last few years of his active career.
Gracias.
Perfección y belleza asombrosas!

Teatro Campoamor, con mis paisanos-as algo acatarrados-as

I always appreciate Kraus' artistry, but his younger voice has a sheen that it does not have later.

¿Gianna d'Angelo?
