  • A homebuild hobbing attachment for universal milling machines uses a rotary encoder and a stepper motor for synchronizing hob and workpiece. Spur gears and helical gears mit more than 30° helix angle are possible. This attachment can be easily attached to any milling machine.

You can use the combination master gear/ micro stepping...

    Hi,
Thankyou for converting to English :)
Question would it be hard to move the encoder and weight to the rear (top) of the spindle, so that the front is more accessible? So that it doesn't need to be removed every time?
    Regards

I wonder if the changeover of the workpiece angle for left and right is necessary? Could you as well bring the cutter to the opposite side of the gear (pull z-axis above gear then move y-axis until hob is on the other side)? Instead of moving the cutter from top to bottom for cutting, cutting would be done by moving the cutter up.

How many master gears you need? Couldn’t it be done straight with the arduino?

You'll need one master gear for every number of teeth. But rhis fits for any DP or metric module.

    Hello
    Kindly guide me.
I am having a universal milling equiped with a hobbing attachment with 1:40 ratio..
How can i cut helical gears with a HA 16 degres(right hand) teeth 29
    Module 3.

Super!! Far beyond the hobby job.
Question: why did you use Heli coil thread repair pieces in aluminum?
It’s just a larger thread, why not a larger bolt?

Thank you for your comment! Helicoils are not only well suited for repairs but also for new constructions: A Helicoil thread can bear much higher loads than a standard thread of the same size. Thus, them Helicoils are very often used in aircraft industries.

This is very clever! You have a fixed ratio between your electronics for all cases (400 steps transmitted 1:1) and so synchronisation is 100% guaranteed. Then you use a "master" gear to essentially change mechanically this ratio. Isn't that really clever, a combination of electronic and mechanical stuff to synchronise (rather than 2 separate encoders)? Thank you!! (I hope I got it right).
