Thanks for this important reminder to all of us rain barrel weirdos out there. I feel you about that shed. I too am neck deep in a 10x12 shed project. I started in June. It's taking longer than I expected... You can also use a wet-dry shopvac to clean out your rain barrels. I pressure wash the inside of mine about once a year (or 2).

I've been watching your channel having found it only after I built my own rain-barrel water collection and garden watering systems. Even though our systems are different, I do find your engineering and design processes brilliant! Your designs are well-thought out and seem to both look and work excellently. I appreciate your videos here; they are educational and easy to follow. My own systems are already built using my solar panels on the roof, a good storage battery, 3 rain-barrels on the 3 gutters, and 2 water pumps- one for the garden hose and one for the bird bath and dish. Thanks again for putting in the time with these well-done videos!

Great video! I don't have a first flush, so at the end of every season we use biodegradable soap to clean them out!

Awesome. I’m just getting ready to winterize my (far more rudimentary) system. It was really cool that you happened to post this video when you did! Love the channel. Thank you for sharing your journey.

Thanks for sharing, I have to do similar for my off grid cabin water system.

Will be interested if any list of recommendations gets chimed in - (i'm thinking how much i'd hate disconnecting this, that, z - lol)
The only thing I know I came across recently is apparently "the safest water" is ~12inches beneath the surface (away from any scum + sediment) & people use a floater with sunk line.
Anyways - thanks for the vid!

Hey I discovered your channel and spent two days in a row watching most of your videos. I have a "Green Tech" challenge / suggestion / request that I would love to see you doing step by step.
In many parts of the world wild fires are a serious threat. I keep thinking of a way to "remotely activate a fire fighting scenario" with off grid solutions. My scenario is very much like your Rain Barrel system, Solar Panels storing energy to batteries & water kept in tanks. I was wondering then how I could tweak a set up like yours to remotely activate sprinklers located on the roof... (let's say 10 feet) how far they could reach (taking into account the altitude difference of the roof) and how many sprinkles could similar pumps support...Would that be something you would like to try ? I imagine a series of videos for something like "Off Grid Remotely Controlled Fire Protection System". Imagine how that could prevent fires in remote locations not only for the properties but also help in slowing down the fire. In case I haven't sold it enough... I would consider it a "Green Tech Revolution" !! Keep up the good work !

Sounds like a great idea to me. I think I could come up with something, however, finding the time and means to test how well it would do may be more of a challenge at the moment since I'm not able to dedicate as much time to making videos this year compared to the previous years. I think I'll keep that one on the "idea" list though if I do find the time. Also, have you looked to see if anyone has already came up with a similar solution?

@@GreenTechTown online I can't find a tutorial. I used Chatgbt to guide me on how to built one. It's interesting ! Basically if there's power and water like the rain barrels it's a matter of setting up a rotating sprinkler or more with the correct pump. Another thought is to add smoke detectors in the same ecosystem which will operate the sprinklers automatically. I cant' find IP Rated that work with eWelink so I am thinking of an enclosure for existing Sonoff ones. I am surprised there aren't solutions like that online.
