The use of _Metal Gear Solid_ cutscenes interlaced with the footage and articles is way deeper than the perceived "deep meaning" that the obsessive fandom tried to shoehorn into the documentary.
At least the way I perceive it, the MGS references are usually used in his work to really show just how much he is cringing at what he is being forced to watch. Here, though, some of them are actually appropriate at reflecting his point about this documentary being both propaganda and an unfocused mess.
Dumbsville could upload a video of just Kanye West staring at the camera while random stock sound effects play for an entire minute, and we'd probably still watch it.
As much as I always appreciate a passionate fan base, legit I was slightly scared of the community. But man, some of that SFW fan content was amazing to look at. I was in awe at some of that fan art and fan fiction. That community had a bunch of talented folks in it.
“This show is so deep” To be fair, basic human decency and empathy is too complex for 90% of the human race to understand, so I get why they think it’s deep
@Omes Exception no your comparing it to something that's actually deep, I think my little pony is deeper than the documentary because the characters are more human than the 2 dimensional people brought on for the documentary sadly
I remember I liked this documentary as a kid because I was bullied for being a fan of my little pony, even though I was an elementary aged girl. I was literally the *target demographic* and I got shit for it for so long. It’s the reason why I’ve become super insecure about the fandoms I like and the media I consume. It’s overkill, but the documentary comforted me in some aspects, and made me make the show my entire personality on the other, and as someone who has bad hyperfixations it definitely had bad effects on my mental health. I still love the show though, even though it’s become Brony bait. It’s still my comfort every now and then. During the time this documentary was made, it was almost a coping mechanism to make it your personality, and to be edgy constantly. You just wanted people freaked out enough to go away, or try the show for themselves. I know because I was one of those freaks lmao.
I can totally relate everyone at school made fun of me and bullied me cause I loved Mlp and I was literally 9 years when it came out, like the show isn’t deep and such but it did teach me life lessons and also the episodes are just so fun to watch I wish though that then ending seasons were better but it’s ok I’m glad the show exists (Also idk why but I too was very obsessed with this documentary to the point where I was showing guests it💀)
When I was a Brony, I was completely self-aware of what I was getting into. Around the time I joined The Heard, the biggest "controversy" was Twilight becoming a princess. I admit it made any reason to watch the show before that pointless because I already knew what happened, but being the anal retentive bastard I am, I had to erase the fact I already knew about it and decided to take the journey to that point anyway. Even with that fact erased, I kind of saw the bitching about it (particularly from one crotchless wonder named Chad Rocco) stupid. Twilight becoming a princess seemed pretty obvious (at least to me anyway. I mean, her Element of Harmony was a tiara. I've been a fan of Wonder Woman long enough and I've seen enough episodes of Sailor Moon to know what a tiara is often associated with.) And considering how many people (including Chad "I'll fight SOPA but not TPP cause I apparently used up all the balls I once had to fight the former" Rocco) in the fandom put Lauren on a pedestal to the point they said the show was better with her, they conveniently ignored the fact that she said Twilight's destiny was to become Celestia's successor. Pretty sure becoming a princess is a part of that. And of course they were apparently pissy about it because it was done for the purpose of selling toys. I looked at that like "Really? Now this is a problem? The franchise's entire existence has been built on selling toys since the 80's, but now this, something your precious Lauren Faust had planned from the beginning, is what's upsetting you?"
@@ZeldaEd123 " I've seen enough episodes of Sailor Moon to know what a tiara is often associated with." Now I'm imagining Twilight throwing her element at enemies yelling "Moon Tiara Magic" or something similar.
@@DrawciaGleam02 Strangely enough, mainly because of Equestria Girls bringing it full circle, I actually had an analogy (at least I think that's what I can call it) about The Mane Six and The Sailor Guardians. Twilight obviously being Usagi, Fluttershy being Ami (due to both characters initial shyness prior to meeting their respected groups' leader and how much they dedicated themselves to their interests with Fluttershy's being animal care and Ami's being her studies), Applejack being Rei (due to both coming from families steeped in tradition with Rei's being a Shrine Maiden and AJ's being a farmer), Rarity being Mina (due to both characters being the pretty one of their respected groups and their luckless love lives) and Rainbow Dash being Mako (due to both of them being tomboys.) Fuck if I knew where Pinkie played into it (and no, I never went with her being the Mane Six's Chibiusa and I still wouldn't even if I was still in The Heard because her and Twilight's relationship would need to be like a mother and daughter and that was never the case.) I don't know how much of my analogy came true now that FiM is over because ever since someone who actually worked on the show (one of its animators) was revealed to have been a diddler, I wasn't able to see it through to the end. I admit I always knew my time as a Brony wasn't going to last that long and I figured I was more than likely going to stop once the FiM and Equestria Girls stuff ended or if FiM didn't become to My Little Pony what Beast Wars was to Transformers (and based on what I've heard from the few members of the fandom I still like, it didn't), but I thought my exit would be on much more preferable circumstances.
It's far too easy nowadays to be a absolute idiot or evil jerk to everyone who you make eye contact with. There is even big name corporations that reward that kind of behavior, while other humans who actually try to work hard, selflessly help other people for free, or forge a independent life are thrown aside and alienated to the dust
As a person who become a fan of mlp during quarantine, mlp is not a deep show and some people take it, unironically, way to seriously. I wish people would just enjoy it for what it is, a fun show about magical talking horse learning about friendship, with good humor, some nice world building, some actually great songs, and some nice life lessons for kids to learn.
@@paisleepunk true but if you wanted to enjoy it more other than the show it’s kind of too late for that but yeah binge watching it is good and bad cus after you watch you could be wanting more but it’s sadly over and the only new thing related to g4 is the new move cus allegedly it’s supposed to be like transition and they gonna be in the new movie and that’s it

Silly editing and hilarious jokes aside, I'm glad you went into depth and detail about what makes a good documentary. You didn't just shit on the MLP fandom and go "haHA BRONiEs CRiNGe". I've never watched the Bronies documentary but I'm glad that you watched it for us so I didn't have to lol. It seems so all over the place and definitely an ad for Brony Con.
Honestly as a brony, it's not that I like it for "being deep". It's honestly just a comfort show with a side of my hyperfixation on the toys themselves. I'm autistic and find comfort in the ponies and collect especially the 80s toys
hey! same here! im autistic and MLP was one of my biggest special interests at the time. I always had a fondness for animals which probably contributed into my love for the show, and the characters were all great they all had such amazing personalities its not hard to love em. I'm not as big into it as i was as a kid but the love is still their :D
Spongebob has similar problems with MLP, but the only difference is that it’s not full of creeps and the golden early seasons of the show are related on real life scenarios
Silver Quill did a series exploring the characters a while back. IDK if you could call them insanely deep, but these little studies might be a good watch for ya
hello everyone, welcome to my 5 hour TedX talk about how Rarity is the greatest and how she should marry me. you will also find that you have been handcuffed to your seats. enjoy.
Imagine if the only footage the could find of Bronycon featured ChrisChan and they were forced to constantly cut him out of the frame to keep up the wholesome image
Fun fact though about the bit with the kid with Aspergers and his mom wondering if the writers know someone with it... Funny she said that, because Twilight Sparkle has Aspergers. No, seriously. It's canon. Lauren Faust intended for Twilight Sparkle to have Aspergers, and for it to be even more obvious than it honestly was in hindsight, but Hasbro told her "kids wouldn't understand that" and had her refrain from making it obvious or publicly revealing this fact until the show was nearly over, because heaven forbid we HELP kids understand it. Preschooler staple Sesame Street has an autistic muppet now, but don't even hint about Aspergers' existence to the older children watching the talking horse cartoon. Kinda like how Celestia is a princess only because Hasbro wouldn't let Lauren make her a queen because "princesses are easier to market and we want to perpetuate the unhealthy idea in little girls' minds that queens can only be evil and/or ugly!"
Isn't Asperger's not getting on how people feel on emotional levels? If so, can you tell me some parts that highlighted her having that cause I don't watch the show but I'm still curious.
@@sunfl0wer_988 Aspergers, which I myself have, is the short name for Asperger's syndrome (named for the German scientist who first thoroughly studied it), the highest-functioning form of autism which typically results in very high intellect and creativity levels, but often at the cost of having difficulty understanding social cues, expressing emotions outwardly (or the total opposite, being VERY emotional) or empathizing with other humans (which is usually accompanied by connecting better with animals, sentimental objects or fictional characters). It can also come with highly obsessive tendencies, germophobia, desire for total order and strict adherence to routine in one's daily life, aversion to major changes, inability to understand sarcasm or figures of speech, difficulty with fine motor skills like tying shoelaces, difficulty looking new people in the eye, a constant subconscious need to keep one's hands busy, and other such things. If you look back at the behaviour of early Twilight Sparkle, you can definitely see that Lauren intended her to have this condition, particularly with, for example, how obsessed with her studies and organization she was, or how she had to be TAUGHT, as a college-age adult, about friendship and connecting with other ponies.
@@sunfl0wer_988 I mean literally the show being about learning about friendship mostly centers around twilight she starts out as someone who only values knowledge and work and doesn't understand what's so special about making friends and views it as a hindrance to work and as a result she herself has only a couple friends who she greatly undervalue and ignores until being forced to basically make friends whom she goes on a quest in the first episode of the show to stop a villain taking over and through it them doing shit that saves her or overcomes serious obstacles shows her how powerful your relationships with others cab be and she embraces them to overcome the villain the next like 3 seasons after that is her now catching up with years of missed out opportunities with others and learning how to be a good friend basically and how to overcome problems friends face after that its mostly moral stuff forgive your enemies and shit people move on don't hold grudges or let anger or hate control you but that's why alotta the shows morals are simple cause to twilight it wasn't such an obvious thing cause she never really had friends, sorry for the paragraph thanks if u still read it hope I explained it well
I agree that this documentary was on the whole really dumb. Though I did empathize with the part about MLP being a psychological pick me up for depression. I've never watched the show-but I get the same feeling from watching some animated series-like Batman and DBZ-and I a lot of people think I'm a weirdo for it-but I keep at least some of it myself and know that if I make it my whole identity like some Bronies do-people won't like me for it.
I still like MLP, it was part of my childhood and I find the world the story takes place in very fun and interesting. But holy shit, I rather die than be associated with the Brony fandom.
It’s a terrible documentary, but a documentary needed to show how awful a fanbase can be. Without such a thing we may still foolishly believe that “cults” only exist in religion. Neckbeards exposing themselves is the most glorious thing, thank god for the heads up warnings.
Ye, I watched it when I was like seven and have fond memories of it but I cannot see how anyone can watch that show over the age of 10. There are so many better things to watch.
as a brony i agree with most that you say the show isn't deep it has good morals and the story progresses overtime that is called "character development" not necesserally *DEEP* ...BUT bronycon only ended because the show ended there are still other gatherings like everfree just wanted to say this since you made most of your arguments about this
Yeah, it's especially weird that he brought up the end of BronyCon so many times, like that indicates crushing failure, death of the fandom or something never having been a good idea at all, as if events can't just end.
The point of propaganda is to make something look good. I'd argue that the brony documentary did the complete opposite. It made bronies look even worse and far more cringey than they really were. Going as far as suggesting they all have deep psychological issues and/or male insecurity. Sure, there was some of that, but most were just in it for the memes or they just liked the show. It did make bronycon look great though. So yea you could call it bronycon propaganda. I just wouldn't call it *brony* propaganda since it wasn't doing them favours
Former brony here (2013 - 2018) The fandom change my life. Looking back, the fandom didn't age at all but for me, the fandom have helped me to know more about outside world. Also, pony content such as musics and animation is the reason why i'm into it now.
Look I'll admit I did buy the merch when I was 14 but then I realized I didn't need to buy the merchandise to show I loved the show so I gave it away to Charity.
If I'm being honest as a brony, I completely agree with you Dumbsville. They should have touched upon the more dark and serious things that happened within the brony community to show that not all bronies are ok, but instead all the documentary is now is an ad for bronycon, which is now outdated since bronycons are now no longer accessible. I also wish they would talk more about the people in the community and their experience with humiliation for being a brony. No one should be judged for being who they want to be (as long as they aren't hurting anybody or breaking the law of course). If they want to watch a show for little girls, go for it. It would definitely not only bring awareness to those being bullied for things they are passionate about, but again, touch upon how not all fandoms are sunshine and rainbows. I can think of many fandoms that are similar to the MLP community where at first it was pretty good, then spiraled out of control, then perished in obscurity (examples being the fandoms of Undertale, Eddsworld, FNaF, etc.). I also just want to say your awesome, Dumbsville. Keep up the good work!
I was a brony myself and made a few friends through it but we’ve moved past the fandom. We haven’t talked about the show in years. Hell I made friends with their friends that aren’t bronies.
At the end of the video, i really learn a lot of stuff from dumbsville that you need to find who you really are, man that hit me hard and I'm just 15 years old ;)
@@fartbasket92 exercise??? Pfffff I’m weak as hell. But when I’m not drawing ponies from a show for 4 year olds, I work 8 hour shifts and get ready for college
I never watched the documentary before, not even when I was in the fandom. I never was really interested in watching it Actually, I was a bit surprised by a lot of things bronies did back in the day, like obsessing over background characters by giving them weird names that were a pun on "pony" and other horse-related words (I prefer Time Turner and Vinyl Scratch over Dr Whooves and DJ P0n-3, tyvm), giving them tons of personality traits because of only one thing they did (such as giving Derpy an obsession with muffins because of one scene where EVERYONE was obsessed with muffins or making Lyra Heartstrings obsessed with humans when she only sat like a human for one scene), and shipping background characters with each others just because they stood next to each other. Or similarly, never living down small moments and turning them into dated memes, like Scootaloo being a chicken or the "20% cooler" thing. Or using horse pun terminology never used in the show like "Brohoof" or swapping any human-related thing with its horse equivalent in common sayings, even when the show has in fact used the word "hand" before. I guess there were a lot of things I found cringy back when I became a fan in 2012, and the days of 2010-2015 in general, so I never really called myself a "brony".
I definitely understand being extremely hyperfixated on a show as someone who is likely neurodivergent and has hyperfixations themselves. When I was younger, MLP actually was my hyperfixation, and I was *extremely* invested in the show, but I grew out of it. (Note that I was actually a child, lol.) Some of my hyperfixations now can be considered childish, and a lot of them are cartoons, which kind of embarrasses me, so I don't think people should be teased for their harmless interests, whether they're neurodivergent or not. This, however, is ridiculous. There's a difference between being hyperfixated or just really loving a show, and making it your entire identity and ignoring the bad parts. I have a life and an identity outside of my hyperfixations, and I understand that fandoms can be very problematic and the shows themselves have problems. This documentary is honestly just confounds me.
Well some people express stronger symptoms than others. For some it’s extreme hyperfixation. Many Autistic people with heavy symptoms can often be socially isolated too, so their hyperfixations are a source of comfort.
I'm autistic and I could possibly be ADHD (I have yet to get it diagnosed) so I understand the massive hyperfixations. Some are stronger than others but I definitely agree with everything here, even with my strongest fixations.
As a brony myself, MLP doesn't consume my life and I make it a point NOT to advertise IRL. Why? Because, despite how well-written and charming this iteration has been, and no matter how talented the fans can be, it's still a toy franchise FOR LITTLE GIRLS! No matter how you try to explain it, not everyone is going to understand! That said, I did enjoy collecting the little blind bag figures for a while. Well, up until amiibo came along and took hold of my wallet.
What’s there to understand? It’s a show. Could be Ben 10, Dora the Explorer or MGS. Any media can make you feel something, that doesn’t make it a masterpiece
As a brony this was funny AF I love how you make this videos. And love how you put it, you can enjoy it without making it your existence, I feel like a lot of this community does not get that.
@jbiehlable Ok I enjoy the music and the art that comes out of this community, but this is something I keep for myself, I'd rather my close circle of friends do not know this, it is a guilty pleasure of mine, I enjoy it but I don't have to shout it out to everyone, if someone would ask me if I watch it, I would admit it, no shame on that but shouting out proud to be brony every 10 seconds is just retarded. I try not to be stupid around others, I realized that the first time someone meets someone else from a specific group they tend to view the rest of that group the same way.
@jbiehlable heh, didn't expect to find someone else with the same philosophy, but I guess if you are here as someone who enjoys this kind of things either you accept the criticism, or you hate the criticism that you get and worship the show, nowadays MLP is almost like religion, there are fanatics who defend it like it is a dogma, and other who know what to take from the show, and what to ignore, it takes at least some level of maturity to do the second one, and that is why in my opinion, this fandom is good, if you ignore the bad shit, the rest are very mature people with open minds and good tastes, just like in the video you can enjoy the show without making it your existence.
@@Moziah_G._Wolf Steven universe fandom can kiss my ass as far as I am concerned, I don't take their treats seriously, they can enjoy their thing too, but when they start to harm others that is when lines are crossed.

If anyone wants a real documentary about the Brony Fandom, A Brony Tale - Exploring an Unusual Fandom is the way to go. It was made by Ashleigh Ball, one of the voice actresses of Friendship is Magic, and her experience with the show and the fanbase it garnered. It started with a trickle of people coming to a few gigs she had with her rock band because she was the voice of Rainbow Dash and Applejack, they wanted to show some appreciation, and then she finally decides that she'll go to a convention she's been invited to, but she wants to do more research about what she's about to get herself into. It's really quite fascinating, and it was Nominated for Best Documentary from the Leo Awards in 2014. Far better than what John De Lancie did. It still has its moments of awkward bronies, but like, bronies are weird man, I wouldn't say it was normal at all and I was/am one of them despite never having gone as far as to purchase merchandise, official or fan-made, and have barely met more than a handful of people in person that shared an interest in Friendship is Magic. I honestly can't even tell you why I liked the show, I just did, I'm not even going to try fishing for excuses. The closest I've come to overdoing it is downloading too much free music the fans have made, the stuff I've found is pretty great. I've already got LEGO and Star Wars that takes over my life, I didn't need a third thing to do that, too. Gotta find some measure of normalcy, if that's even possible.
I never went as far to buy merch either, but I remember wanting to back then. I'm so glad I didn't. The Kotobukiya MLP figures look pretty nice though. Those are the only pony stuff I wouldn't be ashamed to buy. btw where can I find this documentary?
I found it on Kanopy, which is a free streaming platform when you link it to a library card. You get 5 titles a month, and I just happened to run across it.
I bought a few MLP merch and i kinda regret now. Ever since i left the fandom, all my remaining pony merch put it away and left it on the shelves except my one Twilight plush. Idk why but it could be the memories during my brony time.
The closest I got was just searching rule34, I was already burning in furry hell that was early 2011 - 2017 , but I never in my life thought to goto a con, act all sunshine and rainbows outta my ass, or even watch the normal show, shit sounds (and looks based on the vid) cringe.
The concept of being a brony isn't wrong, it's the fact that some of them are OBSESSED with it, none of it is healthy. I don't think the excuse of it being a comfort show isn't good because media used for comfort is specifically for comfort, not for injecting it into your lifestyle and making it your single personality trait. 6:38 I seriously applaud you for bringing this up, not a lot of people point out the fact that MLP teaches basic morals that can be found in any other show/movie, and isn't unique to mlp.
Hey Dumbs, as a brony myself, also one with Aspergers, I can recognize there are a lot of problems with this doc that I didn't realize at the time. Personally, I still love the show, though not as much as Avatar or Transformers Animated. I'm wondering if you saw anything past like S3 of MLP, as imo the content got a bit more mature and they did some cool shit in the last three seasons. But yeah, I can see things that are wrong with this doc's quality. Also, I want you to rip God's Not Dead to SHREDS.
"You can still enjoy the show without making it your entire identity" probably the best quote that you could have said, it applies everywhere and to anything even if it isn't a show this is probably your best video hands down (that i've watched so far)
I'm generally casual towards the show, as I find it to be a harmless cartoon with good intentions. However, like with pretty much everything, thr fanbase is quite _extreme_ to say the least.
As someone who still likes MLP, I can get the “deep” thing one of the guys said. Sure most of the show is basic human decency but there’s some episodes that do get deep. For example “Do Princesses Dream Of Magic Sheep” in one of the later seasons where we see princess Luna dealing with guilt and self harm: something a lot of other kids shows never show.
8:54 I swear, I have never seen someone with Asperger's wearing a normal hat. You can't get mad at me for saying this, I have Asperger's and I own two top hats that I once wore to school.
Benjamin A, man, I tried getting into SAO, but I couldn't. It's so bland and boring. When I heard the best episodes were the first 10, I knew I was going to hate it. Because I couldn't even get into those episodes. I like the premise of it, but the executions is trash.
Fun Fact: The animator JanAnimations who made the animated segment of the documentary, got a C&D by hasbro on March 18, 2014 because the animation was very similar to the shows, even though there were other fan animations that were also similar to the shows animations?remember cartoonistDUO’s animations? they were ON POINT with the shows animation and yet they didn’t get a C&D? I don’t get hasbro’s lawyer team.
Believe it or not, I had to watch that exact documentary for a sociology class. Every second of it was pain. I had to write a 3 page essay on the brony subculture. Yes, I'm serious.
The show itself is honestly not bad for little kids, especially girls, but the fandom has tainted it so much it's all horrible. You can't watch any clips of MLP without thinking of those adults.
I think the reason why some people hold this show (and other things) on a pedestal is because of how much fans were generalized back in the day. So they’d naturally become defensive and try to convince others, and themselves, that they’re not wrong for liking it so much, usually to an over the top and annoying degree. Not that fandoms aren’t still generalized, obviously. But recently there’s been more tolerance about stuff like that so hopefully that means less tribalism in general. People are coming to the consensus that enjoying something doesn’t automatically make you part of the ravenous whole.
Dumbsville watched this documentary solely to finally meet Rainbow Dash, the one that people like putting inside of jars (A bit of a waste not reviewing this with Fuchsia)
Commented before watching the vid. So Dumbsville was both on the Pony fandom AND the Sonic fandom This guy clearly has some stories about some bizarre fandoms
I loved John's voice work as Discord but I deffo idolised him as a kid, I bought tickets to see him at a convention here in the UK in 2013, but he pulled out due to a family emergency ( which if it's true, that's fine) sometimes I wonder what kind of experience I would have had if I did meet him. I didn't even realise half the shit he'd done until I saw Jenny Nicholson's video last year and the section she did about her experiences with him as a person. I had long left the fandom by then, Maybe it was for the best We didnt get to meet. maybe knowing he didnt really like us as fans would have made that memory sour in my mind. they say never meet your heroes. the universe potentially did me a favour.
It's a good thing I didn't become a hardcore brony, the most I did was create a pony username on the internet and asked a friend for a pony avatar. I was more into video games like smash bros than MLP, in fact I've only seen only a handful of episodes.

I can totally relate everyone at school made fun of me and bullied me cause I loved Mlp and I was literally 9 years when it came out, like the show isn’t deep and such but it did teach me life lessons and also the episodes are just so fun to watch I wish though that then ending seasons were better but it’s ok I’m glad the show exists
(Also idk why but I too was very obsessed with this documentary to the point where I was showing guests it💀)
I for one feel being part of a fandom especially for a little kid show like MLP should come with a healthy dose of self-awareness
@@ZeldaEd123
" I've seen enough episodes of Sailor Moon to know what a tiara is often associated with."
Now I'm imagining Twilight throwing her element at enemies yelling "Moon Tiara Magic" or something similar.
@@DrawciaGleam02 Strangely enough, mainly because of Equestria Girls bringing it full circle, I actually had an analogy (at least I think that's what I can call it) about The Mane Six and The Sailor Guardians. Twilight obviously being Usagi, Fluttershy being Ami (due to both characters initial shyness prior to meeting their respected groups' leader and how much they dedicated themselves to their interests with Fluttershy's being animal care and Ami's being her studies), Applejack being Rei (due to both coming from families steeped in tradition with Rei's being a Shrine Maiden and AJ's being a farmer), Rarity being Mina (due to both characters being the pretty one of their respected groups and their luckless love lives) and Rainbow Dash being Mako (due to both of them being tomboys.) Fuck if I knew where Pinkie played into it (and no, I never went with her being the Mane Six's Chibiusa and I still wouldn't even if I was still in The Heard because her and Twilight's relationship would need to be like a mother and daughter and that was never the case.)
I don't know how much of my analogy came true now that FiM is over because ever since someone who actually worked on the show (one of its animators) was revealed to have been a diddler, I wasn't able to see it through to the end. I admit I always knew my time as a Brony wasn't going to last that long and I figured I was more than likely going to stop once the FiM and Equestria Girls stuff ended or if FiM didn't become to My Little Pony what Beast Wars was to Transformers (and based on what I've heard from the few members of the fandom I still like, it didn't), but I thought my exit would be on much more preferable circumstances.

idk. she seems like one of the more normal parts of the fandom, and THAT'S saying something.
Man, i remember that fact from back when i was an MLP fan, man, brings back some old memories.

Actually, I was a bit surprised by a lot of things bronies did back in the day, like obsessing over background characters by giving them weird names that were a pun on "pony" and other horse-related words (I prefer Time Turner and Vinyl Scratch over Dr Whooves and DJ P0n-3, tyvm), giving them tons of personality traits because of only one thing they did (such as giving Derpy an obsession with muffins because of one scene where EVERYONE was obsessed with muffins or making Lyra Heartstrings obsessed with humans when she only sat like a human for one scene), and shipping background characters with each others just because they stood next to each other.

It was a good one ya
The concept of being a brony isn't wrong, it's the fact that some of them are OBSESSED with it, none of it is healthy. I don't think the excuse of it being a comfort show isn't good because media used for comfort is specifically for comfort, not for injecting it into your lifestyle and making it your single personality trait.
6:38 I seriously applaud you for bringing this up, not a lot of people point out the fact that MLP teaches basic morals that can be found in any other show/movie, and isn't unique to mlp.
They better mention Chris chan in that one. One of the more infamous Bronies, next to the dude with the jar
Who is Chris chan?
@@razor6827 the guy who created Sonichu, the most recorded person on the internet and probably the first brony

Used to be like these guys in the documentary. I don’t regret being that person but it’s painful to think back on that time.
"You can still enjoy the show without making it your entire identity" probably the best quote that you could have said, it applies everywhere and to anything even if it isn't a show
this is probably your best video hands down (that i've watched so far)
I'm generally casual towards the show, as I find it to be a harmless cartoon with good intentions.
However, like with pretty much everything, thr fanbase is quite _extreme_ to say the least.
I didn't see subtitles for the German dad at 13:50 so here's what he said:
"it's exactly the same. Craziness, again."
WTF HE SPITTING FAX
As someone who still likes MLP, I can get the “deep” thing one of the guys said. Sure most of the show is basic human decency but there’s some episodes that do get deep. For example “Do Princesses Dream Of Magic Sheep” in one of the later seasons where we see princess Luna dealing with guilt and self harm: something a lot of other kids shows never show.
5:58 Forget MLP. I wanna know about his LEGO Star Wars collection
I love how you use Soulja Boy to effectively demonstrate utter confusion, unlike other memes you used that never really covered it
8:54 I swear, I have never seen someone with Asperger's wearing a normal hat. You can't get mad at me for saying this, I have Asperger's and I own two top hats that I once wore to school.
that guy who said the characters are deep? it's like saying sao is a masterful character study
Execpt MLP is more enjoyable than SAO by miles, but yeah I agree, they ain't super deep.
@@roselaughs8455 from what I know about SAO, you can only enjoy it if you like flat and OP MCs and much booba
@@benjamina6618 Agreed.
Benjamin A, man, I tried getting into SAO, but I couldn't. It's so bland and boring. When I heard the best episodes were the first 10, I knew I was going to hate it. Because I couldn't even get into those episodes. I like the premise of it, but the executions is trash.
@@nightynightlayla374 The show is basically trash tbh. And it's really saying something when a hit or miss show like MLP is better than your show.

Sounds like a punishment you get in Hell
That is sad

Over dramatic much?
Me, a pegasister: Yeah, seems right.
I like mlp a lot, but I wouldn't make it everything about me
The Metal Gear Solid clips in this video and the way how they fit in so well really scares me.
The show itself is honestly not bad for little kids, especially girls, but the fandom has tainted it so much it's all horrible. You can't watch any clips of MLP without thinking of those adults.
What exacly do you mean by tainted it, If you don't mind my asking
@@hoimyrgames4442 I mean it's impossible to watch the show and forget its fandom and the drawings of characters doing disgusting things.

The second hand embarrassment is unmatchable
I think the reason why some people hold this show (and other things) on a pedestal is because of how much fans were generalized back in the day. So they’d naturally become defensive and try to convince others, and themselves, that they’re not wrong for liking it so much, usually to an over the top and annoying degree.
Not that fandoms aren’t still generalized, obviously. But recently there’s been more tolerance about stuff like that so hopefully that means less tribalism in general. People are coming to the consensus that enjoying something doesn’t automatically make you part of the ravenous whole.
right at 15:08 it started raining in my minecraft world
Dumbsville watched this documentary solely to finally meet Rainbow Dash, the one that people like putting inside of jars
(A bit of a waste not reviewing this with Fuchsia)
Commented before watching the vid.
So Dumbsville was both on the Pony fandom AND the Sonic fandom
This guy clearly has some stories about some bizarre fandoms
This editing has a frighteningly good similarity to Pyrocynical edits.
Metal Gear hits different when watching the MLP Documentary ngl
It's a good thing I didn't become a hardcore brony, the most I did was create a pony username on the internet and asked a friend for a pony avatar. I was more into video games like smash bros than MLP, in fact I've only seen only a handful of episodes.
