“The men might not have seen her” hit me like a thousand trucks as I realized what that implied. It was a sweet story of an oceanic creature saving a human... and then WHAM! Beep beep muthaboaters. My heart.

Literally I was so IMMEDIATELY sad
It had a chilling ghostly beauty to it. Felt drawn in to the atmosphere as I listened.
Now that is the kind of effect you want from a mermaid story. Haunting. The stand out for sure.

@@reganwilliams7830Smaugust is a lot like Mermay. Basically, You are given an animal (EX: Emerald Viper) and you have to create a dragon based on that animal.

i absolutely love the less humanoid direction these are taken in. It really makes the mermaids feel more alive and distinct.

This mermay serie is PHENOMENAL!!! The concept, the designs, the color palette you use, the narration and sound editing, it's a whole experience this is AMAZING!!! They are all incredible, but the right whale design and story sent shivers down my spine ,,, she just looks so kind....
I would watch a movie of all the experiences Mr. Finch has had in his life of these creatures

The four mermaids poke could represent Beauty, Motherly Protection, Festivity and Purity
As a person who is deeply and truly afraid of the ocean, this puts the "good!" in "oh, god, please no!!"

I can agree on that. Maybe this could be somewhat of an explanation to why they did what they did in the last year’s one
Or maybe this would happen in different spread periods of time that overlap and extend on the before and after the events basically showcasing how everything that happened connects and slowly amplifies as a consequence to the debilitating conditions the sea nears through human contamination and influence through fishing, or this is exclusively a time before when finding all of these creatures wasn't that out of the world for others and is now what people base legends off in the future, or this is only in the future now that the world and ocean is going to shiat and people have just come to accept that there are "casualties" and strange things that happen and arise when the sea is challenged so much in the future UwU

Your rendering style really gives off such a classic, dark vibe to it. I'll always love how weird and creepy your mermay concepts can get
All of theses mermaids give me a Cryptic Steven King vibe. Love the stories, the voice and art. They’re so cool
So I'd legit read a whole book of tales from this guy- It reminds me of those, like, search and rescue stories with the stairs in the woods and I'm living for it
It's great to see aquatic beings that actually looks like we could find them on our world, and Jack's endless creativity helps to make these wonderful remarkable characters.
These are always so damn creative
Feels like the right whale from this one fits nicely with the dead whale from last year (the kindness and the death of her calf)
The first five give off real a lovecraftian feel: unknown, fascinating, but frightening.

The narration makes me think of a hardened seamen who’s seen his fair share of hell on the water reflecting on every moment in his life and the sea creatures he’s seen
Why do I feel Melumuse seems like the mother of the Liloriña line? It kind of gives off that vibe.
Maybe Melumuse was the one that resurrected them?
He went from rough drawn chatacter to smooth drawn character 😌👌
The second mermaid makes me think of selkies. I really love the mermaids though, and how they aren't always as beautiful as the tales make them seem.
They are all so creative!
also after watching more of the video: Melumuse is so pretty 🥺 I love how her hair looks like flowing water, and I also see a lot of Cresselia refrences (no sure if you meant for them to be similiar) the slightly open mouth, the arms and the cressent hair/wings. All in all I love Melumuse too much I wanna explode!!!

I love how uncanny all the non-pokemon mermaids are. Just making them all so uncomfortably human in the most off-putting ways is just so great. Like the Right Whale one just totally looks like what you'd realistically get if you gene spliced a human and something like a bowhead whale. Keep up the great work!
Rewatching after going back through your Apoctober series. The stories really caught me; you don’t expect such terrifying lovecraftian ocean creatures to be portrayed with sympathy. It’s really engaging, and both this and Mazah have me hooked!
Something I always love about this series is that not only do we get to see your improvements as an artist but as a writer as well. Keep up the great work :D

i was so obsessed with all of the creative things that he's done with characters and concepts that he forced me back into the drawing rut. by which i mean... i pulled an all nighter designing different forms of ralts for almost every gen 3 pokémon.

Wow... this has to have been probably my favorite video I have seen this year. A Sea faring tale told by an old sailor with major fantasy designs and story. I want to add the creatures to my d&d world. And follow that with your amazing pokemon design only to end on that comedic note. *chefs kiss*

The whale story got me... I may have teared up a little. I loved the day 4 illustration. So cool! And a good lesson as well. My dad fished in the ocean and he taught me “never turn your back to the sea”. It’ll take it’s chance.

I love the feel of all of these art pieces! I was half expecting to see something to come crawling out of day 5, real Orphan of Kos vibes from the Bloodborne DLC.
Oh man, loving these! This year's designs thus far give me a much more "serious" vibe than last year. They look like they could fit in an ocean-themed expansion of Bloodborne. Can't wait to see what else you come up with!

The mermaids are so... unnusual, and majestic and scary all at the same time. All with their own "personality" you could say. Like the scary terrors of the day 1 entry and the sad and depressing nature of the day 2 entry. Oh my god

I can see Argyle Finch actually working as a character for the Mazha Region, like as an npc that you encounter in several places who tells you about his encounters with each legendary mermaid and even other sea legendaries, maybe giving you some clues on how to find them

that was great! I especially loved that shrimp one, and the voice acting was great, I liked the surprises that you put into it like the only one tuna thing
i mean i am always keeping a little bit of an eye out for anything eldritch-y (looking at you, swirly eyeballs), but for now i am super saitisfied and happy about jacks beautiful, painterly uncanny valley creatures, they are my favourite things of all time on this channel!
