I have to mention that I always read the acknowledgements! I love seeing who authors want to thank/what aspects of the work/world they want to reflect on.

Glad to see you here again! Januaries being compared to an "adult bedtime story" - love!! And I could hear your thoughts on these topics all day, this was such a cool dialogue.

Always so good, I love these vlogs/q&a videos
And having hope in the future is definitely worth it, that's what a lot of good fiction is based upon. When you burn out, find that thing that is worth fighting for. After all rebellions are built on hope!

I work in tech and I totally agree with you about AI! I'm so sick of the leaders talking about it because I honestly think trying to force it into the product just for the sake of using AI will just make things worse T.T anyway I'm super excited for Gifted and Talented!!!

omg all the upcoming releases (and Succession is one of my favorite shows and I have totally written down in an idea dump file 'Succession but fantasy???' with nothing else lmao. I hope you get back to the show whenever you can). Rooting for the asker with navigating things with their mother! It's tough with parents, it's tough trying to grapple with fact that you may not get an apology.
And finding your writing style! I think I have one, but I spend so much time being awful to myself about it lol. It can be quite sparse and far from lyrical (I think a product of being a journalism grad?) and lyrical/poetic prose is the writing style I admire most. I got a comment from a beta calling a fight scene I wrote 'beautiful' once a few months ago and was like 'did they read the correct manuscript??' lol. I do kinda hope my voice will morph a bit (with lots of reading where I focus on the prose I appreciate, craft books, and practice like you mentioned over the course of years and years lol), but I gotta chill on dragging the current one I have lol. And I felt that rant at the end right in my bones like I have to fight so hard not to fall into passive doomerism about the state of everything. I usually win those fights even if by a small margin, but a win is a win.
And I know the place to ask is more so Tumblr, but if it's okay ask here:
I'm about three weeks into querying (I promise not to dump alllll the querying woes on you, only a few lol). And even though I know I'm meant to understand that publishing is a business first and switch on the business hat for this part, that it's all subjective, that I have to write another story regardless of the outcome here, that I'm not owed a great agent/book deal/a stable author career just because I worked hard on a manuscript/manuscripts, that this is not in my control, etc. etc., it doesn't really change how it feels when you're sitting on a handful of rejections or wondering if you'll have to shelve another book after another failed querying attempt. And I can't help but wonder how my fellow writers with mental illnesses and/or neurodivergences especially handle things like querying, submissions, etc? I know perseverance is an integral part of clawing out space in publishing, but how do you hold onto that?
Sorry for such a long comment! Happy to have another video from you!

ohhhhh yes that’s tough we can talk about that! best of luck. unfortunately all you can really do is keep going and maybe know when to move on to a new concept and/or shelve a manuscript for later when the market inevitably shifts

Hello! Before anything else I must say I read the Atlas Six series and they are easily my favorite books of all time. Maybe it’s partially because of my experience getting it in a famous bookstore in France, but it really was the perfect book for me. I definitely want to read some of your other books sometime soon. Also I love these videos! They’re so interesting to me, and I get to see books in the background that I’ve read haha.
I feel like I have so much to say but I’ll try to keep it short as I can:
My question is do you have any advice you can give to people who want to reach out to authors for school projects? This could be me asking if you could help, but I don’t just assume these things will work out first try so I am really wondering if you have helpful advice for this.
Anyway I do have so much more I want to say but I don’t want this to be extremely lengthy, thank you so much if you read this!

hmm yes I can talk about this next time! Most important thing to remember is any author you contact is getting a lot of similar requests and also you may not be reaching them-the vast majority of people who dm me for example are automatically sent to spam (not by me)
