    Just to give you some background in this vlog. When I was traveling to Amsterdam in December (before flying Xiamen Air to China) I saw how sustainability as a much discussed topic. I contacted KLM, a leader in this field if they can show me what they've done so far and what they are planning to do for the future. This is the first vlog in the series to explore and learn about sustainability in aviation. I will look at other airlines during the year to see many different approach and initiatives in this relatively new field.

      Love this video! Look forward to the series. Fantastic to see real creativity towards innovation with sustainability!
      Nice to see resources go towards real innovations, rather than needless gratuitous luxuries of yet more boring amenity kits, or how many lights, computers screens a first class seat needs! We all love luxury, but let's do it more sensibly.
      Well done KLM! And well done Sam for your work and continued variety with purpose!

      Sam Chui Hi Sam, always enjoy your videos (and bravo to KLM, I enjoy flying your airline and nice to know what you’re doing to help protect the environment and lessen your footprint), but asking if flight is sustainable seems to buy into the crazy that the left promotes today or at worst is just click bait. I will assume its the crazy left as opposed to click bait as your videos get so many views you don’t need to do that. Of course flights are sustainable. Flying becomes safer, more efficient (less fuel) and with less impact on the environment, both noise and air quality every year. In the last 50 years emissions have been reduced by 50% and though carbon footprints are temporarily inflated as China, India and other 2nd, 3rd world economies start to make the transition to economies that are strong enough to pay the price of lower to now emission types of energy, proper sewage, cleaner water, cleaner air and proper disposal of single use plastics into the oceans. Imagine how clean the air over China would be if they would not participate in an Arms race and the invested 1/2 of the money they are currently spending on energy in infrastructure that they could then export to other county’s at an affordable cost. I’m excited about this time in our lives as we use our intellect to design, create and build planes, plants, industry, farming, truly all aspects of our economies into a more ecologically friendly way without the 10-12 year hysteria that the left seems to love to use to scare people. I enjoyed the video, but the title seems political?

    Firstly, being tall is usually perceived as a compliment and it was a purely spontaneous comment. Although I am British, I’m living in The Netherlands for 25 years and I know that the Dutch are not easily offended and they like to say things as they are. I am sure the lady was in no way hurt by Sam’s comment.
    The reason that KLM is perceived as an innovative company is because they try out new ideas and concepts. All the different seating and beds are mock ups. They were simply showing the process of learning by trying ideas out. I don’t understand all the rude comments.
    My wonderful Dutch wife has been working for KLM for more than 30 years and I can tell you that KLM is a fantastic company to work for. I am very proud of this organization the way they treat their employees and that they are always thinking outside the box to improve the aviation industry as a whole.
    KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUYS, COS’ YOU ROCK!

Look at an electric car that needs to ride more than 450.000 miles before they are better than a 2020 Diesel. Very little here has to do with Dutch cleverness. Most of these ideas are coming from other nations, and what doesn't is just absurd. Saving space is easy, just cram bodies into any open space you can find. Now, getting people to be comfortable while flying and balancing that with efficiency is not easy. The Dutch haven't been clever enough to find a better balance.

    • @IroAppe
      @IroAppe 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, in order to not feel claustrophobic, you unfortunately need some moving ability. I don‘t think most people really need to sit up completely (that would not be possible space-wise on a plane anyway). But you need to be able to flip around horizontally, so your feet can go to where your head was, without having to leave the bed. That‘s basically my minimum mobility requirement that my brain decides on if I feel comfortable in that space or not, which is very understandable since mobility to move around was key in surviving.
      How much space that is? I don‘t know yet, I would have to test it. And I think they need to do that testing too, to find out what‘s the minimal space that average people feel comfortable in.
      Of course guys, if you still want to fly somewhat economically, and do not have vast amounts of money lying around, you can‘t have exorbitant demands. Economy is always the compromise of what is possible and paying the least price for it.
